Playing as the third linebacker on a stacked defensive squad, Ernest Lover was never one for chasing stats. He’s happiest when the team wins, especially when the defense makes the job of the offense that much easier by playing as a team. So half-way through the season, he’s optimistic about the prospects of the Sarasota Sailfish making yet another playoff. While there have been some tough losses, Ernest has come up with some big plays on the field. If he could improve upon one thing this season, it would be his consistency. Ernest has nights where he shines and others where his supporting role is practically non-existent, with only a few tackles on non-critical downs. Ernest thinks he can improve his consistency by watching more tape of opponents and learning the different offensive strategies that catch him off guard. He has been so focused on working with his own team’s playbook, it’s high time that he look outward rather than inward during film study. This means finding his place in both the run defense and the pass defense and knowing how to read the formations of the opponent to know whether to come up in run support or drop back in coverage. But he is sure that studying up along with the other linebackers on the team, Heinrich Kackpoo and Michael Witheblock, will make a difference before the season is over.
