9. Through a random lottery drawing, you have been named the league's new commissioner for a day. Congrats! What improvements would you make to the league if you had the power to do whatever you wanted?
Response:
LOL. You guys are in for a treat. Hiring a first-time user who hasn't even been drafted yet as the commissioner of the league? Poggers. Although the threat of everything going to hell in a handbasket looms, I would keep mostly everything the same. Pretty much all my experience with sim leagues is in SHL, and while they have flaws, they seem to be sorted out fairly well. The one thing that SHL has that ISFL does not have is a robust banking system. I love the SHL banking system. It was probably a task and a half to create, too.
For those of you who aren't familiar, there is a separate index(?) that shows your personal bank balance as well as the balances of each player in the league. (Check out my bank account here). I can navigate into my bank account and it will show me exactly how much money I have, what I spent, and links to everything. Instead of scrolling back through old training threads or PTs, I can have every dollar that came through my account at the tips of my fingers. This feature really helps in planning out your finances. With each transaction, it shows who made the transaction - to keep accountability. Within the banking system, weekly training buys are made and seasonal coaching (equipment) buys are made as well. Once these transactions are made, the TPE claim is instant.
As far as I can tell, the ISFL does not have this type of system. Weekly training is bought through a thread which, to me, can become clunky and cumbersome. Again, to me, the "Transactions" page for each team is not a good system. It is overly complicated for a first time user and provides a lot of opportunities to lose track of money. It's not horrible, but I like being able to see everything I've ever done in front of me. It helps show where myself and others stand instead of using the ?balance bot on discord. I'm sure it would make auditing A LOT easier. Within my first week in ISFL, I was totally lost as to what my balance was. I was concerned that I may not be able to earn all the TPE I could because I was not rich enough. This feeling did not exist for me when I first joined SHL due to this banking feature.
I just like the way it FEELS too, I feel so posh using the bank. 10/10 would recommend. And that's my improvement as commish! (423 WC) (5 TPE)
26. Football is a game that has been going on for a while, loved by fans all over. But what if you were able to make some rule changes? Talk us through your new version of football, and what would be different and why?
Response:
Look, football is a great sport, but it won't last until the year 2100. Too brutal on the brain. People have already figured out that playing football professionally is an almost guaranteed trip to the vegetable garden by the time you are 50. Some say you can't change the sport because football IS smashing heads. I agree with this to a degree, but I think there is room to change the sport to make it more sustainable. This might sound dumb (and probably is), but I think a possible rule change is to make is illegal to receive the ball in a forward motion. Hear me out. When a quarterback throws to a receiver, they must catch is while moving laterally or backwards. This eliminates a lot of the crunching, blind hits. For example, you can run a drag, lateral slant, curl as normal, but the posts and deep balls need to be curled back more to have a lateral catching plane. When I'm thinking of this rule, I'm thinking about the catches where a receiver is splayed out for the catch and a safety comes in the opposite direction and ragdolls him. I think the impact would be lessened if the were moving away from the safety as opposed to into the safety. Idk, food for thought. (218 WC) (2.5 TPE)
27. What team do you think has the best branding in the league? What team do you think could use a refresh? Why?
Response:
This is coming from someone who rally has no idea about the league. In my opinion, the Berlin Fire Salamanders have the best branding in either league. An original mascot, awesome (but not crazy) colors, and a clean logo. I looked through each team and none stand out as well as this team. I am very impressed. Other have cool colors like the Sailfish (2nd place imo) or Coyotes, but color doesn't matter as much to be as the logo and team name. Also, the reason I picked the Fire Salamanders over the Sailfish is the intimidation factor. I feel like "Fire Salamanders" strikes more fear than "Sailfish."
As for worst branding, it was an obvious choice, to me. New Orleans Second Line. Look, I don't want to be mean because I'm sure people worked very hard, but you can do better. The logo makes me say "what?" I do like the colors, but...it's only one color? White isn't a main brand color. I don't know, it's just not nearly at the level of all the other teams in the leagues. It almost makes me think this was one of the original teams? Again, please don't hate me for hating - it's just the truth. (204 WC) (2.5 TPE)
