2. Tell us about your draft class. Is there anything that makes it special in comparison to other classes? Where did your fellow draftees land, how are they doing? Did anyone turn out to be an unexpected steal of that draft based on what you know today? Do you think anyone in your draft class will become a hall of famer? If you’re new to the league, how do you think your class will do? Where do you think people will get drafted to?
My draft class for the International Simulation Football league was one for the ages. Overall I feel that it was pretty deep at least for the first few rounds. I think that one thing that makes it special is the impact players that were found in many different positions. My player is a tight end, and with that, I have tracked tight ends closely this season, so that is where I will start. For my class, I am referring to rookies who were called up and playing in the International Simulation Football League. I consider them my fellow rookie class, not necessarily the ones who were dr
I believe tight end was one of the very best positions in the draft this year. This years rookie class consisted of 3 rookie tight ends. Two of them were picked this year (Sal Ami and Nick L. Back) and one was picked in the draft s29, and was called up for their first year this year (Zack DiNozzo). Ironically all three of us played at the same time and on the same team last year in the Developmental Simulation Football League for the Norfolk Sea Wolves. All three of us made big impacts in our first season in the “big leagues.”
Zack Dinozzo led rookies in receiving yards with 831 yards on 81 catches. Nick L. Back came in 3rd in receiving yards with 687 on 71 receptions. Sal Ami came in 4th in receiving yards with 611, but also led all rookies in receptions with 88. This type of yardage from tight ends in a rookie season leads me to believe that these 3 players will have lasting impacts in this league.
Elsewhere around the league, we had other rookies who had quite a bit of success. I think if I had to pick one player who will be a hall of famer, I would go with my team mate Miles Weperom. He plays safety and his user name is MMFLEX (this is what I will refer to him as moving forward in this article.) Flex started every game for Honolulu and had 59 tackles along with 5 pass break ups and 1 interception. These stats are solid for a rookie safety, but that is not the whole story for a player like Flex. His impact was felt beyond the field. In the locker room he immediately assumed a leadership role within our team. By the seasons end, he was going above and beyond in his duties in the war room, helping team leadership make decisions, and also taking on additional scouting for players who had some tough breaks when it came to their work schedules in real life. I do not know much about the other rookies in my class, but in my experience, Flex is first class and will be a legend when it is all said and done.
Looking around the league, The fire Salamanders got a great rookie season out of wide receiver Troy Abed. He is a 6 foot 3 inch wide receiver who used his size to take advantage of smaller defensive backs all season long. Troy Abed ended the season with 68 receptions for 788 yards and 3 touchdowns. The fire Salamanders converted for a first down on 48.5% of his receptions this season.
The first pick of my draft class belonged to line backer Sherriff Woody. He was drafted by the Baltimore Hawks in hopes that he can be a cog in the middle of their defense for seasons to come. Sheriff Woody had a solid year as a rookie with 78 tackles along with 8 sacks and one interception. Sheriff led my rookie draft class in total tackles and was 3rd overall in tackles for rookies this season.
Jason Garciaparra was selected by the Chicago Butchers in the 1st round of the draft and was the 3rd overall pick in the draft. I think he will continue being a great contributor to their defense and in my opinion he had a great year. He had 14 tackles but also had 6 sacks, which is especially impressive when you think about the position he played.
When thinking of steals, it is too early to say on something like that. We are only one season into our rookie class, and many of the draftees stayed down in the Developmental Simulation Football league for the entirety of this season. Maybe after a few more seasons, I will revisit this in more detail and see how things worked out for each team and player. As of now, I would guess each team is pretty happy with how their different selections performed this season. In conclusion, I (although probably biased) think that my rookie class will be a solid one with many members who become franchise cornerstone building blocks for seasons to come. Hopefully as time progresses, these positive thoughts continue to be reality for this draft class.
