17. Your team has announced that they will be laying ground on a new stadium next season. What additions would you like to see included in it. No graphics option available here.
I have one addition and one addition only that I want to be in the new stadium. I can talk about it for 200 words, don’t you worry. Replace box seats with hot tubs. Same price, same location, but instead of inviting my corporate business partners to come stand in their stiff suits and squint at the game, I’m telling them to bring their swim suits and…still squint at the game. It’s so high up there, I don’t know how anyone can see anything that’s going on. And one more thing, have a raffle for one of the very best boxes each and every game. That way, the “fans of the week” get to have all you can eat wings and kettle corn and beers in style. Imagine how iconic this could become! Fans would go nuts for the chance to combine their love of football with their love of hot tubs (we all love hot tubs; if you don’t, you’re wrong). Perhaps this is my idea because I want a hot tub and I cannot afford one and maybe if my home stadium had 60 of them I could sneak in after practice and relax in the tub. But even if that’s the case, this is a good idea and Berlin GMs and owners and whoever else runs this fictitious team had better get on it!!!
21. Now thats three seasons on the new sim. What are your thoughts? Do you think that it is better than DDSPF16?
Overall, I really like this sim. I can’t comment on the strategy or how smooth it operates from a programming side or anything like that. The only thing I see is the video that gets published to YouTube. That video is what I like better. I find it far easier to follow where the ball is and to find the stats of the players involved, even if they are typically a few plays behind in updating. There are certainly moments where the sim doesn’t replicate real life decision-making. There will always be field goals kicked at stupid moments, 4th downs that should have been no-brainer decisions, punts kicked and spiked balls dropped that end the game rather than allowing one more play…That’s just a part of being in a sim it seems. But the clarity of this broadcast along with the tempo we fell into this season feels really good (please never use the tempo from last year’s Ultimus ever ever ever EVER again). I only have two beefs with this sim. First is that it won’t let my team win. I was drafted by Arizona and play for Berlin and those two teams have been big time boned by the playoffs since we switched to this sim. So sorry for the curse, guys…I am a Bengals fan, so I guess it makes sense. Second is that there are WAY too many safeties. We’ve gotta help our QBs learn to throw the ball away when they’re in the end zone. I don’t know how to fix anything, but I really don’t think any of my complaints are big deals. I’m glad we made the switch.
25. Imagine your current position was not available to be picked when you created your player. What other position would you have picked, and why?
I’ve been putting some thought into this lately as I’m thinking about if I want to create another player. I picked linebacker because it is the position I would most have liked to play had I had a football career (don’t hear this thinking I was on the fringe of having a football career; I was not). I was told not to do quarterback because it’d be too stressful, and while I think I’d have enjoyed it with this create, if I do recreate I’m not going to be writing 5,000 word media pieces to support my equipment purchases or getting a fancy league job. So, I’d want to pick a position that doesn’t require max earning in order to be effective, but still makes an impact on the field. I’m drawn to running back and tight end. These two positions seem to lend themselves towards players getting to be involved in a good bit of the game but not having to max earn like a quarterback in order to be relevant. Also, I could someday be on someone’s fantasy cheat sheet and that would be pretty dope. Since I’m nothing close to a running back in real life, I think I’d lean towards a tight end, which is ironically enough the offensive position I would pick if I were to play in real life. So had I not been a linebacker, that’s probably where I would have gone. Who knows, maybe in a few seasons I’ll try it out…
29. Awards have been a subject of controversy for a while in the league. Tell us your ideas on how awards process can be fixed.
My fix for awards is pretty simple. Step one, have an equal amount of people representing each team. Step two, do not allow anyone to cast any votes for anyone from their own team. Done. If there are 2 reps from each team in the committee, so 28 people in that case, have the vote totals be out of 26 since only 26 people are eligible to vote for each player (28 minus the two that are on the same team). That way you can still have someone get unanimous voting for a certain award, but you will cut down on so much of the fighting and lobbying. Each member of the committee will have to research players outside if their own team and see who they think is the most deserving of those players. This would help to cut down on the arguing in nominations as well, since the same rule would apply and each member can only nominate people from other teams. I think that this would be effective in cutting down on controversy, heightening integrity, and making for a much more balanced and performance-based voting by the awards committee. Someone will always be mad they didn’t win, but at least there will be less getting in the way of the right person winning each award.
