1. This season marked the 30th season of the Ultimus and Ultimini. This was a great playoff run as there were multiple great games and the Ultimus in particular ended in a very surprising fashion. The ASFC was headlined by a dominant 14-2 team the Arizona Outlaws who dominated the league for the entire season. They were headlined by the presumptive MVP, Charlemagne Cortez, who put up one of the best seasons in ISFL history. Other teams of note were the defending champions the New York Silverbacks who were trying to defend their first ever Ultimus Trophy. They were tied in record with the great Austin Copperheads team who's rebuild had seemingly finally come to fruition. The Copperheads traveled to the Silverbacks in the ASFC Wildcard game. The Copperheads didn't put up much of a fight as they lost 47-24. Notable performances by Sam Howitizer who threw 4TDs put the Silverbacks over the top. We were then given a treat as ISFL spectators, a matchup of the defending champs and the most dominant team in the league. The Silverbacks were looking to get to their second straight Ultimus game and the Outlaws were trying to right past wrongs. Sadly, this game ended up being a snoozer as the Outlaws dominated like they have all season on both sides of the football, with a big 33-0 win in front of their adoring fans in Arizona. Tatsu Nakamura, the future Hall of Famer had a typical performance by his standards, gaining over 180 yards and 2 TDs on the day to put the Outlaws on the top. Glen Smart also had a 2 sack day at the LB position to represent the defence. And now we turn our look on the NSFC playoffs which were slightly more interesting.
The Sarasota Sailfish were on top of their conference with a respectable 11-5 record on the year. The Yellowknife Wraiths were right on their heels all season as they rattled off a bunch of victories in a row, they were given a playoff spot in the NSFC playoffs. This was a surprising achievement as they did not expect to get to this point as they were reportedly looking to trade away many players to set up an early rebuild. Right after them at 9-7 were the Berlin Firesalamanders who are seemingly on the downturn. Their players are simply not as dominant as they were a few seasons ago but regardless they found themselves in a position to make the playoffs yet again.
The Wildcard game featured the Firesalamanders at the Wraiths and it was a pretty close game as the Wraiths lost a grip on the game and ended up losing to the Berlin team at home. An unfortunate end to a long series of playoff runs as the
Wraiths are now in the rebuild process. Danny King Jr. was the lead back that day with over 120 yards and 2 TDs on the day. In the conference championship we found the Sailfish and the Berlin team going at it yet again. This was a close and back and forth affiar that left fans breathless. The Sailfish managed to find a way to the top as they won the game 30-24 to secure another Ultimus berth. Ichinose was the hero on the day as he had over 100 yards and a touchdown on the day to get his team the victory.
Now we are at the Ultimus, the biggest game of the season was finally at hand and the Ultimus trophy was at hand. Many pundits expected this to be a close game but the results were very surprising. The Sailfish dominated the entire game and it left many fans, especially Outlaws fans scratching their heads. What on Earth happened? The Sailfish quickly jumped to a 14-0 leads as the soon to be named MVP cortez couldn't string anything together. It was a very disappointing performance. The Sailfish held on for the 27-10 victory as the Outlaws went home empty handed.
The Sailfish were officially crowned Ultimus champions.
