Another season of relative disappointment for L’Gazzy Burfict and the Arizona Outlaws. Last season it was a case of so close yet so far, and this year the expectations were rightly sky high. The locker room was stronger than ever and influential S25 players (Burfict, Triplet, Crunk, Pama and Roth) were at their peak. But as seems to be the case, well, the random sim generator seemed to have other plans. The Outlaws started off as expected; a dominating victory in New York who had finished 2nd in the ASFC in season 30. A good sign, surely. But two close defeats would soon follow. Firstly at home against the Austin Copperheads - maybe that could be called a “tighter” fixture as they’d finished 3rd in division last season. And then in the following match, on the road in Orange County. The Outlaws finished on 14-2 in season 30 and here we were, on 1 and 2 already. Week four brought a home victory for the fans to enjoy with a 24-17 victory over Honolulu, but this good feeling was short lived as defeat number three came at home to NOLA soon after. The team regrouped and scored well in San Jose before getting well and truly overridden by season 30 Ultimus champions Sarasota Sailfish. 3 and 4 from the first 7 games. Baffling.
So into the second half of the season and a push to at least make the post-season. But this started poorly with a defeat on the road to the Wraiths. Next though, sign of improvement at last. Four wins on the bounce. Yeti brushed aside, a tight win against San Jose, another tight one on the road in Chicago and making it 2 from 2 with another victory against New York. Four games to go now, could the Outlaws do it?
The bad luck returned though - defeat to Austin again and, more alarmingly, to the Otters. The 4-12 Otters beat the Outlaws twice. That is simulation football right there, ha. A couple of late wins (in Honolulu and New Orleans) allowed the Outlaws to scrape into the playoffs. But the journey ended at the first hurdle and the team were off on their holidays sooner than everyone had wanted.
So all in all, a pretty disappointing season. As mentioned at the top, expectations were pretty high so in truth it is disappointing. At the end of the day we’re here to win and that hasn’t happened. In terms of Burfict and his individual numbers. Well the outlaws LB core is stacked and i’m happy to share the stats with the other players. There is no individual ego here. Apart from chasing that dream of returning a fumble one day. That is the only individual accolade i’d be sad not to see come retirement.
But there is a hope to win an Ultimus ring one day, the Arizona team (and in particular the GMs) deserve that. Will that come next season, in the first S25 season of regression? Well who knows to be honest. I’ll go give Derek Acorah a call and see what he thinks.

My idea on awards may not be a better way of doing things, but would at least make things a little more transparent. I think the way forward should be via Twitter polls. At the moment a lot of players put effort into keeping up a Twitter presence and it’s an impotent part of creating that player image, making them feel real. The NFL can have polls through twitter to decide players of the week (although there isn’t much point, just copy and paste Jamarr Chase right now). Twitter polls are another opportunity to enhance the visibility of the league, the visibility of the players. Another chance to knock people down a peg or two perhaps. If it’s good enough for the second best football league, then surely its something which could be adopted by the number one in the business. Let players see who votes for them, how many votes clear they were of the next player, what their peers really thought of their performance in that standout game. Let GMs who vote tactically be shown to be what they are, pantomime villains. All in the name of fun of course. Do it ISFL, bring the awards to Twitter, let the players have more visibility and more of an influence on the game we all love.
