I feel like this is probably an issue that happens a lot in real life. It would be hard to tell anyone that has a dream that is very important to them that they need to focus less on working to make that dream of theirs a reality. I think that there’s one approach that I can think of that you could take that might be effective. That approach would be to make it relate to that dream. If you don’t know what I mean, I’m saying that I would tell this young relative that in every sport, being smart is always an advantage. You hear people talk about football IQ, basketball IQ, etc. all the time and how important it is. Another way to relate it to sports would be to tell them that without good grades, they may never be able to make it into a big Power 5 school to showcase their skills to pro teams.
