“What up nephew?” I shout as I walk into my older sister’s house.
My nephew comes running and gives me a big hug. “Uncle Escanor!” he exclaims. “Can we play football in the backyard?” he asks, beaming up at me.
“Well, Hell, that’s actually what I’m here for, neph,” I tell him.
“Hey, language!” I hear from a familiar voice, as my sister wheels around the corner, “but yes, as of right now, no football until you get those grades up, and Uncle Escanor is going to help you.”
“Yep, I heard your grades look like SHI- uhhh, don’t look too good. You know, when I was in high school, I had a 4.0 GPA.”
“You did?” he asks, looking surprised.
“Yep, and I had a 3.97 in college. Had a B+ in one class. Fucking Physics 101 man.”
“LANGUAGE!” my sister yells at me.
“Yeah, yeah, but anyway, I’m going to be helping you out 3 times a week in the afternoons until we get those grades up. And once you’ve got at least a B in everything, your mom will let you play football again,” I lean forward towards him. “And if you make all A’s, I’ll take you to our practices and let you learn from the Birddogs ourselves. How’s that sound?”
The biggest smile I’ve ever seen spreads across his face. “Alright Uncle Escanor! I’m ready.”
