Being a referee in the pro leagues is a difficult job. You're already the best in the nation at being a ref and nobody really knows how hard it is either so they just assume it's easy. Since people assume it's easy they roast you for getting calls wrong even though it might not be completely your fault or really avoidable. This *one* call however, was very bad, *and* the ref's fault.
We were playing a big playoff game when I was in high school. Winner went on to the state championship. Everybody was so hyped, including the crowd. Both teams were neck and neck and I was watching my team's offense march down the field towards the end of the game. If they got a field goal or scored, we won! Our QB threw a jump ball deep towards the sideline and our receiver got laid out by the defender *way* before the ball got to him. Most of our bench got excited, thinking that surely the penalty flag would be thrown, but it inexplicably never was. The ref somehow didn't see the pass interference and we didn't get the call, which would've put us into field goal range or even close enough to score a touchdown soon.
We didn't end up getting any points out of the drive because of that and the game went to overtime. Once overtime hit, we couldn't get points and the other team scored, so we lost. That was the only time I really felt like we had a football game robbed from us. Our team tried to bring this matter to court and everything, but sadly, there was nothing that could be done. We had our playoff and championship dreams crushed, just like that.
