For Fire Salamanders Tight End Gronku Muerto, the first 2 seasons if his ISFL career have been marked largely by change. Going from a big-shot award-winning player in the DSFL for Tijuana, it was eye-opening to become a starter in the ISFL and see how far ahead of him in talent the best players were. He went from a top target for his QB to being a short-yardage specialist, and the 5th (or even 6th!) option for his quarterback. After a lackluster rookie season stat-wise and a disappointing finish for the team, he buckled down and worked much harder the second season, and saw at least progress in the right direction, if not any spectacular improvement. He claims to have put in a lot of extra work in the training room to become a bigger contributor to the Berlin offense, especially in light of his youth and that there is much room to grow. However, his big new year resolution was in regards to his diet. Going from the beaches of Mexico where tacos and tequila were in abundant supply, to Berlin, where beer and sausage is the go-to dinner, it had a big effect. Gronku often felt bloated and fat in Berlin, and put on some weight, but not in a good way. Your body is much more likely to stack up on fat cells in the colder climates than it was on the hot sunny weather in Mexico. So Gronku made the conscious decision to learn how to tolerate jagermeister instead of beer, and is more likely to choose the leaner wiener instead of the delicious bratwurst. For a few weeks at least, Gronku will make the sacrifice for his team, as they look to get back to the Ultimus and win it all this season! It might be tough and I'm sure he will cheat and have the occasional flagon of ale, but that's ok as long as he practices moderation!
