Alright, welcome back everyone! After a longer than I had hoped for delay due to a new work schedule and some PS4 issues, the ISFL to NFL roster is now complete! Let's discuss some of the auxiliary things before we get into the roster proper.
This simulation will take place in Madden 18 on the All-Pro difficulty setting and simulation gameplay style with some major modifications to the game's sliders. I refuse to buy any up-to-date Maddens for what I hope are obvious reasons, and I don't have access to older consoles to use something like All-Pro Football 2K8. After some digging around on both Madden forums and through youtubers such as That Franchise Guy, I have come up with settings that I find acceptable. Basically, I've made the game more difficult without introducing the crap that comes from playing on All-Madden (I hope). Also, it has been voted that the Jaguars are the team that should be replaced. Your wish is my command!
The game will use 7 minute quarters, with a 15 second minimum play clock time to help speed up gameplay. Injury is also off, but I will be manually rotating players in and out over the course of the season.
With all that being said, let's meet the squad!
QB Ryan Negs, 96 OVR
QB Dexter Zaylren, 95 OVR
Already starting off strong on offense with two 95+ overall players. Neither Zaylren or Negs are particularly good scramblers, but both have strong arms and good accuracy. Negs does have the slightly more powerful arm, but I can trust both quarterbacks here to make any throw I ask of them, which is all I need.
RB Goat Tank, 88 OVR
RB Busch Goose, 88 OVR
RB Zoe Watts, 74 OVR
RB Tatsu Nakamura, 70 OVr
Very top heavy running back group we have here. Madden is not kind to players with low awareness, and that shows with Nakamura and Watts, who have 60 and 58 awareness respectively. Outside of small hiccups like that, they're all solid running backs, though Goose is much more rounded than Tank and therefore will get the nod as RB1, at least for now.
WR Eleven Kendrick-Watts, 92 OVR
WR Sam The Onion Man, 89 OVR
WR Tugg Speedman, 86 OVR
WR Luke Quick, 86 OVR
WR Mark Walker, 83 OVR
WR Kai Sakura, 76 OVR
WR Nick Kaepercolin Jr., 75 OVR
It seems like Madden likes the Slot Receiver archetype, as Kendrick-Watts and Onion Man have the highest overalls while being part of that archetype. Speedman, Quick and Walker all have that magical 99 speed however, so we'll have plenty of options. Sakura and Kaepercolin Jr. have seen better days, neither of them are what I would call top receiving options, but they're not so bad as to be unusable.
TE Mario Messi, 99 OVR
TE Borgo San Lorenzo, 99 OVR
TE Nick L. Back, 90 OVR
TE Adam C. Spencer, 89 OVR
Congratulations to Mario Messi and Borgo San Lorenzo on being the highest rated players on the team, with both tight ends securing a 99 overall! Considering the tight end archetypes we're using nowadays are extremely well rounded, with no attribute being sacrificed in favor of another, it makes sense that two of the premier tight ends in the ISFL would translate over to Madden strongly. L. Back and Spencer are both great as well, and I think I'll end up rotating those two in at fullback just to make sure they get playing time outside of me changing the depth chart.
LT Icebox Riposte, 91 OVR
LT Adam Mellott, 90 OVR
LG Stumpy Jones, 98 OVR
LG Alexander Franklin, 88 OVR
C Emperor De Pengu, 85 OVR
C Bernie Sanders, 84 OVR
RG Bob Roberts, 91 OVR
RG Felix Archstone, 86 OVR
RT Manhattan Project, 92 OVR
RT Bruce Buckley, 74 OVR
This is a truly elite offensive line, top to bottom. When your worst player is still a mid-tier starter in the rest of the NFL, that's when you know you have a strong team. I still need to make the correct reads and I still need to find the holes to actually have a strong run game, but this team should dominate in the trenches.
DE Tex Wrecks, 92 OVR
DE Marlon Brando, 91 OVR
DE Leonard Taylor, 91 OVR
DE Wasrabi Gleel, 85 OVR
This is an incredibly potent edge group. While they lack the speed that some of the top edge rushers in Madden might have, their high strength and other solid statistics means they're still very well balanced. The high agility of players like Brando means they're quite good in coverage as well, which means I can afford to run a lot of different coverages without having to overcompensate by sticking to a safety. Wrecks in particular has been deadly in testing, but I'll talk a little bit more about that later in the article.
DT Chuck Roth, 93 OVR
DT Honky-Tonk Haywood, 91 OVR
DT Dominos Pizzaman, 88 OVR
DT J.J. Jay Jay-Jamison Jr., 74 OVR
Once again, the low awareness bug strikes again, and Jamison Jr. is the victim. His low speed doesn't help matters, but he's still a very serviceable defensive tackle so I don't mind it too much. Outside of Jamison, the rest of this group is quite strong and they should be potent pass rushers. They also have the tackling and block shedding to be strong run stuffers, so this'll be a fun unit to follow as the season rolls on.
LOLB Xavier Walls, 92 OVR
LOLB Brach Thomaslacher, 83 OVR
MLB Guy Fields, 87 OVR
MLB Big Slammu, 87 OVR
MLB Guy Smart, 85 OVR
ROLB Melvin Murder-Moose, 80 OVR
ROLB Juan Domine, 74 OVR
While the cornerback group we'll read about in just a second might be incredible, I think the team's defensive MVPs will be this group of linebackers right here. In my testing during preseason games, Murder-Moose and Domine combined for a total of 9 sacks and 5 TFLs in those four games. In total, the linebackers had 13 sacks across those four games, so this entire unit has a ton of potential in terms of disrupting the quarterback and stopping the run.
CB HeHateMe PickSix II, 98 OVR
CB Willie Miller, 98 OVR
CB Swantavius Jones, 98 OVR
CB Rich Triplet, 96 OVR
CB CJ Sonjack, 96 OVR
CB Albert Ruschmann, 94 OVR
CB Tayshawn Crunk, 92 OVR
This cornerback group is absolute comedy. There's not a single cornerback group in ANY Madden ever produced that I would want over this group. Not only does this group have starpower, there's also incredible depth backing it up. This group is SO incredible that I woud likely have to rebalance my cornerback attributes methodology if I were to ever do another Madden ISFL Pro Bowl. Passing is going to be incredibly difficult, which means I can throw a ton of blitzes at opposing offenses and not fear the consequences.
FS Tessie Garciaparra, 88 OVR
FS Remus Roman, 86 OVR
SS Romulus Roman, 88 OVR
SS Pasta The Turtle, 76 OVR
Congrats to the Roman brothers for making it onto the team together! Remus was tied with several other players, including Pasta, and Remus was one of two chosen in a random chance game. This safety group is pretty strong, not quite as stupidly overpowered as the cornerback group, but still strong. I think I'll bring these guys in to blitz a ton, since our corner group should be able to hold up without safety help over the top.
K Sam Sidekick, 79 OVR
P Cade York, 79 OVR
Full disclosure, York won both polls. Since Madden freaks out when you only have one person doing punting and kicking duties (at least this version of Madden does), I put York in at punter. He won that poll by a large margin, whereas he was only a single vote ahead of Sidekick in the kicker poll. Looking past that, both kickers are very good. I was able to consistently hit 55 yard field goals with Sidekick and York was deadly accurate with his punts.
Players to Watch
TE Mario Messi
In the four preseason games I played, Messi racked up 270 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns. Keep in mind, this was with Madden automatically subbing players out in the preseason at seemingly random times, so he was only able to rack up 15 receptions in those games. With his speed, he should be able to outrun linebackers in coverage quite easily, and he has the strength to bully any cornerback that get's put on him instead. He'll likely be my favorite target in the whole series.
CB Swantavius Jones
In those four games, without any influence from user control (though that's probably a good thing, knowing my skill), Jones racked up 12 tackles, including 4 solo tackles, a tackle for loss, 1.5 sacks, two deflections and an interception. Jones is the kind of corner that can do it all, and he'll be a deadly weapon on this defense.
WR Mark Walker
While Walker is buried to 5th on the wideout depth chart, he's going to be the team's primary punt returner. And he was absolutely deadly at that spot. While he didn't get any touchdowns in the preseason, he was able to gain 106 yards on 5 returns, which is over 3 yards more on average than the best punt returner in the 2021 NFL. Better than All-Pro Devin Duvernay by a huge margin. He's a return monster, and has the potential to take several kicks to the house.
Man, it feels good to be finished! Creating these rosters is always a pain in the ass, since there are so many stats to change, but it also feels good to be making long-form media again. I'll try to play the games at the pace of one per week, but that's not guaranteed. Realistically, we should go 16-0 and win the superbowl with this team, but with me at the wheel that's far from easy.
For anyone that's read all the way to the end, thank you very much for reading! I'm so excited to begin playing and make my way through the season. So, I'll see you soon!
