It may come as no surprise that Darren Smallwood has become a hometown hero for San Jose. But what many people do not know is that he helps Domestic Violence victims on the side. Often times, the people who suffer from domestic violence cannot return back to their home, because it is unsafe. For the children, Darren Smallwood provides the Children and Women’s shelter with tickets to the San Jose Games, great seats and all the bells and whistles. In addition, Darren Smallwood also ensures that every contract he signs for sponsorships has a clause that 75% of his earnings from the sponsorship go directly to the shelter. He also has been working with his teammates to collect food and clothes to ensure that the shelter is properly equipped to take on new victims and help them in any way possible. While this is all well and good, the San Jose wide receiver feels he is still not doing enough, and while he does still have more to do, he does spend his time off at the shelter to help cheer up the people there. He’s willing to do whatever he can to give back and do so in any way possible.
