During the off season in Orange County, the Otters members often still hung out. Ricardo Sandoval, one of the top prospects in the NSFL, remained in Orange County for much of this off season because he hoped to be drafted back by the Otters. Marc Spector and Ricardo Sandoval trained a lot together, working on new techniques. Marc was never a super physical guy so he trued to pick up how to better block and press receivers at the line of scrimmage. In exchange, Spector showed Ricardo techniques on how to break off the line faster to get the edge on his opponent using speed. The two tirelessly worked on their game, and in the end, both felt they drastically improved their skills.
When the two were not on the practice field, they often were still hanging around the Orange County locker room, with their snails. Snail racing had become quite a bonding experience for Spector and Sandoval. The two knew that there was a good chance that their days as team mates would soon be over, so they relished every race as competitors before they were forced to be competitors on the field as well. When Sandoval was drafted by the Hawks, Marc was the first Otter to message Ricardo congratulating him and wishing him luck in his new home.
