It's a tough decision to choose a single rookie from the Otters roster to be excited about. The Otters draft board fell such that they were able to fill a need with a high-upside player at almost every pick.
With the quick retirement and arrest of Franklin Harris, the Otters were suddenly in need of linebackers. First-round pick Julian O'Sullivan looks to be exactly what the doctor ordered. The run-stopping tackle machine made an impact in his first game action, recording several tackles while filling the middle linebacker position.
Another exciting rookie is DE J.D. Boom. The talented DE was a consensus first-round pick until he contacted the GMs of every team, saying that his heart wasn't in it anymore, and that they shouldn't pick him. His draft stock plummeted until the Otters took a gamble in the 4th round, taking him with the 25th pick. The gamble was rewarded, as Boom revealed he was simply trying to gauge which teams were actually paying attention. He had been visibly keeping active in workouts, but it went seemingly un-noticed by everyone but the Otters.
He received the Otters Game-ball for the first pre-season game, for his contribution of 4 tackles and 2 sacks.
Hopefully for the Otters, these two rookies continue paying dividends, and that their other rookies strive to be even better.
