My first impressions of the games in the new sim is that defense has either become less reliable or offense has become suddenly explosive. The number of breakaway, like, 80 yard plays every week is questionable. We have tight ends outrunning secondary after all. That being said, it does make games more exciting, potentially even though I do think it happens a bit too often. I think we also have seen that OL has gotten a huge buff which has shown its weight in gold. I think we are seeing more and more OL creates which is good, but the buff seems to be significant enough that if there is ever a shortage of OL, the beginning games suggest that that alone could create a huge disparity that teams can't overcome if more users don't create OL.
I would also be remiss if I didn't point out Honolulu's meteoric rise this season. Something that I hope continues. Although it seems as though Montain's stats are not quite as high as they were in the old sim, I am still happy to be seeing some action. Lastly, Honolulu's field has its lovers and haters which was honestly to be expected. The inspiration was clearly drawn from Boise State which is either loved or hated itself. If I had to pick another teams field I like, I think it has to be Colorado. Those mountains in the field are clean and crisp. Huge fan.
Moving away from DDSPF 16 was always going to be a welcome change but 21 does seem to be off to a slightly rocky start. RBs have already had their position skill changed and seem to be in a weird spot where runs are either going for 1 yard or 50. While YPC looks fairly reasonable among the top RBs, all of their longest runs have been far and away above what we saw in the previous sim, and a lot of their usage gets much less yardage. However, on the opposite side, we have QB stats, through 5 games we already have 3 QBs over 1500 yards and we look to be on pace for several 5000 yard seasons. Completion % is up across the board with no one dipping below 60% where last season only 1 QB topped 60%.
It does tend to make games more exciting to watch though as there is always the potential for a big play at any given time, both on the ground and in the air. Only 3 QBs haven’t had 70+ yard throws so the potential for the field to flip at any time makes for an exciting game. The streams are slightly too long to watch all the games unfortunately, but we’ve had thrilling games every week.
On a more personal note, my player may as well not be on the field at times, but he’s doing his best.
Well I have to say that I think the Chicago Butchers are off to an excellent start! I mean you can't ask for anything better than a 100% win percentage!
When it comes to Givussafare Rubbe as an individual... Well he's not quite living up to the standards that he's previously set for himself, but at this point in his career I think that's what we've all expected to happen. He's had an excellent career but he's getting old, that's just the sad reality of things.
The good part is that he doesn't have any sacks allowed. The pancake numbers might be falling, but if he never allows a sack it doesn't really matter. Protect the QB at all costs!
It's tough to see so many OL ahead of him in pancakes, but when you take out the OL that have given up sacks already he's doing a lot better than tons of OL. It's also great to see so many real OL out there on the field, there are over 30 of us!!!!
The best part about not being the most talented OL on the team anymore is that means there are a ton of great OL kicking ass and protecting the QB alongside Rubbe. That's been the goal of his entire career and to see it happening is the best thing that could happen out of all things to start the season
I love the new sim, it runs a lot smoother and just looks a lot better for being 2D, but it's hard to read some of the player numbers and the stat board thingy so it's hard to tell who is making what plays unlike the other sim, so if there is a way to fix that, it would be cool because it's not fun to watch the sim if I can't tell what plays my player is making. Also, the sim is a lot more customizable which is also super cool. Also, another thing that might be cool is to make a bot for the streams. Where the bot pretty much says what the play stat block thingy says but is more readable, and then it puts at the end a scoreboard and the total stats for that game if that makes sense, I know it can be done, I don't know how but I believe of our many members there will be one. And another thing is maybe we make advertisements that go in the stadiums like real football maybe I'm blind but that would also be super cool. Another thing is this SIm makes it really hard to get sacks and it makes me sad
It hasn't been a perfect transition, but with the awesome job the sim transfer team did it was much smoother than I would've expected. I didn't even make a mistake on my archetype update (except for when I edited it to include more earning/application but didn't update my total in both spots... but I do that on all my normal updates anyways). My player is decent, though nothing special, so I can't really say that much has changed. The new archetypes also look very balanced compared to the old ones, which is new. In terms of presentation there are pros and cons as well. I love being able to see every pass, the new sim looks much cleaner, and the play-by-play adds an interesting element with extra details (the pancake text is amazing). However, sacks/turnovers take forever between plays, the play by play window is harder to read, the stats list doesn't show OL stats, and there's had to be some fine-tuning to get the play speed and animation speed right. Overall the cons are mostly nitpicking, and I'm extremely glad that we've swapped to this new sim. The limited sim testing is also nice, at least with how it was billed, considering teams will have to actually use the strats that seem intuitive considering both rosters (though in reality it sounds like lots of teams are just going through a much more painstaking process).
After being left off of the ballot for best Defensive Tackle despite leading all DTs in sacks, I was a little apprehensive of the new sim. I was certainly nervous that I wouldn’t be as productive on the stat sheet with the new archetype builds. I’m not as fast or as strong in the new sim but I do like the new traits. As far as the team, however, things make a lot more sense in result than the previous sim did. You beat bad teams in your own stadium. Teams you test against at 50/50 are really a tossup. Running backs are something else, through. Records are going to be dropping like flies. The presentation is also really nice. I do miss being able to see the play-by-play feed for much longer. It seems to fly by in the new sim. The fields look spectacular. The three best fields to me are Colorado, Chicago, and Philadelphia. Sponsorship logos, different turf colors, and extra customization are really neat to see during the stream. I also really like the index and can’t wait to have a recreate whose entire career will be recorded on his page, much like the PBE OOTPB sim. So, here’s to a job well done, ISFL. People will never stop complaining about the sim shorting them, but I think this is a nice upgrade.
I like the new sim. It's a little longer to watch, but it feels like the plays have a little more meaning. Not a huge fan of the stats changing around since it makes it harder to keep track of your own player's progress, but seeing the football actually get thrown and move around to see where the plays are being called and going is a nice step up from the old sim as well.
I do really like the new index as well, it just makes it a lot easier to click on someone's name and see their season stats and their rating. I'm just curious why the league isn't using the personality stats as potential level up tools as well like professionalism, or how much winning means to my player etc. I think it would open up a whole wave of possibilities where players can be divas, like I strive to me with PickSix II but maybe it'll have a negative impact on the team because i'm not a team first player etc.
Just something to look into I guess for the future? Maybe don't start regression after year 7. If you think about it, If you're a one and done in college, you'd get drafted in your age 19 year. One year in the DSFL. and the 6 years before you regress at age 27? That's generally when most players hit their prime, so maybe extend regression by 3 years, and with all that extra TPE open up the second level of player progression with all the non physical stats. I don't even know if they play a part in performance for the sim, but it might be fun
Things have been very interesting to start the new season. The New York Silverbacks came out of the gate strong, winning their first three games. We've stumbled lately, however, losing the last two and putting us at a 3-2 record after five weeks. There are things I definitely enjoy about the new sim and there are some things that I could do without.
On the positive side, I really like how much cleaner the visuals are in the new sim. Being able to actually see the ball in the air makes a huge difference. And the "gameplay" itself just seems smoother (for lack of a better term). The fields look great as well. Major props to everyone who came up with them.
Of course, there are cons as well. For me, the games just take too long. Way too long. Being on a team that is regularly on the back half of the weekly schedule means waiting up to an hour from the time the stream starts until the time our team kicks off. I can't even imagine watching every game and spending over an hour and a half an evening three times a week watching dots. But hey, maybe that's just me.
Overall I think things are going well with the sim switch. There are always going to be hiccups but I'm confident that the people working behind the scenes will continue to put out something enjoyable that just gets better with time.
