Through 10 games of the S24 ISFL season, I believe that a clear leader has emerged for the linebacker of the year award. While the Baltimore Hawks have had their share of struggles this season, Derred De Ville has been an impact player game in and game out. He currently is tied for the league lead in sacks with 9, alongside Galf Wilf and Jordan Andrews. He also has a solid 68 tackles as well as an interception and a forced fumble. However the most impressive part of De Ville’s season so far is probably the impact he’s had in pass coverage. De Ville is currently leading the league in passes defended with an insane 19 through just 10 games – no other player has more than 16 so far. While he doesn’t have a huge number of turnovers this season, his massive production across the board makes him, in my opinion, a lock for linebacker of the year, and definitely someone to consider for the defensive player of the year as well. While there are players with much higher tackle totals, such as Dex Kennedy and Mike Hockertz, they both have under 5 combined sacks and PDs (De Ville has 28), and also don’t have a huge number of turnovers. There are other linebackers that have had fantastic seasons thus far, such as Galf Wilf and Haha Mango-Panda, however their production clearly does not quite up to De Ville’s.
I guess this is a chance for me to gush about my own player. Last season, Galf Wilf, won the Defensive Player and Linebacker of the Year awards, and this season he is right back in the thick of things for both of those awards. Wilf and the Outlaws started out incredibly slow and have found a period of good form the past couple of weeks that has brought the team and Wilf back into contention. Wilf is tied with 2 others for the league lead in sacks, which seems to be the biggest driving factor for linebackers, and his pace the past couple games has been fantastic picking up 5 in the past 3 games. He's only got the lone interception so I think if he can force a few more turnovers he can really put himself in the driver's seat for at least the Linebacker of the Year award again. On offense, with Jay Cue slinging it, Saba Donut has found himself having another fantastic season and a chance at Receiver of the Year. He's tied with DTF for the league lead in receiving yards with a long of 67 and 5 scores, 2 behind the league leader. Nobody seems to care what cornerbacks do if they aren't making interceptions but Zamir has also been having himself another great season. He's at 3 picks on the year with a forced fumble which probably has him on the outside looking in with the other top corners in the league, but with 6 games left he definitely can get himself strongly back into the conversation for CB of the Year.
It’s a little more than halfway through the S24 season, and Venus Powers has found herself in a most peculiar position. She is nowhere near the lead in Punter of the Year contention, suffering from a lack of both volume and efficiency compared to her competitors. The race for Kicker of the Year is similarly not very favorable, but she is at least a dark horse candidate - she remains one of the only kickers to have a perfect record for both field goals and extra points on the season, and although she suffers volume wise compared to her competitors, she makes up for it by being by far the deadliest kicker in the league from a distance. Powers has made 3 of 3 attempts past 50 yards; the closest anyone else has managed is 1, and almost everyone has missed from that range. Her proportion of 40+ and 50+ yarders is much higher than others and should give her a slight boost come awards time.
However, talking about award season would be remiss without mentioning the actual front runners of the Honolulu Hahalua, namely the stellar team defense. In particular, quarterback turned cornerback Jim Waters has been a revelation in the backfield. It’s fair to say that Waters is a viable candidate for more than just positional awards, and DPOY is well within his sights. Transgender lesbian, S15 veteran, and (retired) media extraordinaire. Fascists and bigots are welcome to fuck off. — — — ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() — — — For Your Reading Consideration: Before the Butchers | The Jungle The Giving Tree | Volume II | Volume III A Winter of Discontent | Volume II The Rockiest Road | II | III | IV | V | VI | VII | Finale Two Essays on Unfree Agency: On Agents | On Contracts Eclipse of the Honey Moon | Volume II Gemini Media Awards: S39 | S40 | S41 | S42 | S43 | S44 | S45 | S46 | S47 All Winners ![]() ![]() ![]() — — —
Well, Im definitely not going to get a award this year but if I had to pick someone on my team to win a award...I think Ben Slothisberger has a chance at getting OROTY. Now hear me out first. Sure Slothisberger is a rookie QB and sure he is inexperienced but literally look at the guy play! 13 passing TDs, 2159 passing yards and only 4 interceptions! You see the top guys like Banks III and Jay Cue throwing ints while this rookie QB has only threw 4. Im pretty sure thats great for a quarterback but then again what would I know? I'm just a random receiver that drops balls thrown by him. Speaking about Ben Slothisberger (I feel like im saying his name wrong) he gets about 200 or something yards per game, he has 179 completions thrown, his long is 54, he probably has the best name out of all the other starting Quarterbacks, and ill remind you once again...HE IS A ROOKIE QB DOING THIS. Aren't rookie QBs supposed to be bad in their first season in the ISFL? Slothisberger says no. I wouldn't say he deserves Best QB unless if it was out of irony but I definitely think he deserves to be the Rookie Of The Year.

This is the first season I have had anything close to a noteworthy season for awards purposes. Cornerback Andrew Witten has had a disappointing career so far, with only two career interceptions prior to this season and no Pro Bowl invites. He has had a breakout year in his third season after moving from strong safety to cornerback for the New Orleans Second Line. Playing opposite the best cornerback in the league, David Rector, Witten has had plenty of opportunities to make plays this season as offenses target the weaker side of the defense. This season, Witten recorded his first pick six, his first multi-interception game, and already has four interceptions through ten weeks. His four interceptions are second among all cornerbacks, one behind Austin star Dermot Lavelle Jr., and tied Honolulu’s number one corner, Jim Waters. The only other cornerback with more than two picks is Arizona’s Zamir Kehla. Witten has an advantage over Waters in Kehla in that he has a pick six this season, as does Lavelle. Witten also has tied for the sixth most PDs among CBs so far this season with 13, more than Lavelle or Kehla. It will be a tight race for cornerback of the year award this season, but all the favorites are in the ASFC so one or two of these great players might end up missing the Pro Bowl despite being among the best in the league. Witten’s combination of interceptions, pass deflections, and the touchdown scored makes him a strong contender for the cornerback of the year award this season.

As we are at the halfway point of this interesting DSFL season, there have been many great personal campaigns of individual players among the 8 DSFL teams. A few of these campaigns have garnered the attention of the voters and those who are responsible of awarding these players of prestigious awards. I believe that one of these awards, the Defensive Rookie of the Year, should be awarded to none other than my defensive teammate here in Minnesota, Wasrabi Gleel. I deeply believe that Gleel should overwhelmingly win the Defensive Rookie of the Year because of a few reasons. The first reason is that he is having arguably not only one of the greatest rookie seasons but also regular seasons in DSFL history. I say that because: he is second in total tackles at 67 behind the defending DPOY Chainbreaker, he has 3 TFLs, 3 Sacks, 1 INT, and 3 Passes Defended all as a Linebacker. In addition, his presence on the field, along with Chainbreaker, leads to a turnover producing, and generally disruptive defensive which will keep us in games. Also, he is a great and super witty locker room presence and always boosts our morale with his humor! Thus, all in all, I believe that Gleel should be an instant lock to win Defensive Rookie of the Year!
