If you have a client that you know will be a FA after the season, what rules are you breaking if you go to a GM and say "hey, Cue is gonna be a FA after this season, do you have interest? What kind of contract are you able to offer? What plan would you have if he signed?"
No need for the player to be there. And even if you can't submit the offer to the player while he's still under contract, at least you have the basis for a proposition you can submit to your client as soon as FA starts.

I agree, I also feel like a player shouldn't be needed for a team to say to an agent that they're interested in a player they represent, and the negotiations beginning like that.
