Haha Mango-Panda, my good linebacker buddy, is in great position to take over the awards ceremony this year. In the offseason, the position I held my first couple years in Sarasota was given to Panda, and in return I took over his. The results so far have been incredible. Not only does Sarasota boast the best overall defense in the league (based on points conceded), but Panda is clearly the front runner for awards like linebacker of the year and potentially even defensive player of the year. Panda has been performing at an exceptional level thus far, and has accrued 60 tackles, 7 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 9 passes defended. No other player with more than 60 tackles has more than 2 sacks, and Panda currently ranks first in the league for passes defended. Last year's defensive player of the year won with 118 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 15 sacks, 3 interceptions, 1 defensive touchdown, 12 passes defended, and 1 safety. Panda is on track to beat the tackles, have 14 sacks, 4 interceptions, and 18 passes defended, a much better stat line than last year's winner. Compile his individual success with the fact that Sarasota currently has the best record in the league at 7-1, and we have a clear frontrunner for DPoTY. Hell, if he keeps this up and Sarasota finds themselves with substantial postseason success, he might even be in the running to win the MVP award. HahaVP inbound.
My teammate running back Mathias Hanyadi is a shoo-in for another RB of the year award. Despite having many options to call plays for in the passing game and having a great young player / future star backing him up in Skyline, Hanyadi has produced significantly more than any other ISFL RB. His efficiency has been great as well. Of all the league RBs with at least 100 carries, he has the second best yards per carry. As you can see he’s not just the result of pounding the ball over and over again. With him being the favorite for RB of the year, that also means he’ll be in consideration for offensive player of the year. This is where in addition to his rushing related stats, we look at his work in the receiving game as well. In that area he has 187 yards and 1 TD to this point. Of all the RBs with an actual RB “tag” in the sim, he has the fourth most receiving yards. That means he’s lining up from the backfield every snap, he doesn’t get split out wide like a lot of other league RBs. Hanyadi has had a lot of success over his career, and I think there’s going to be even more hardware to put in his trophy case after this season. (221 words)
I'm probably not the only Philly player writing about this teammate of ours. He's set himself apart with his leadership abilities and his willingness to sacrifice and do what's needed to be done for his team. I speak of course, of Defensive Lineperson of the Year candidate Brock Phoenix. Phoenix has set himself apart from other players in the position in many ways: First I want to get ahead of the potential criticism and say I know his raw defensive numbers aren't very impressive. He's only gotten 4 tackles and a pass deflection on the season, but what Phoenix does that other linemen seem incapable of, is rack up passing yards and touchdowns. No other lineman is even close to his production, he literally is outperforming all other defensive players by a factor of INFINITY. Sure, he's turned the ball over far more than any other defensive player, but he's also leading the position in touchdowns by a margin. And I love a defensive player who can still summon the instincts to find the end zone. Phoenix is an unconventional player, and a lot of times they get slept on in awards votes, but I want the committee to open their minds, and understand that's he's just playing the game in a way that no one else has ever done before, and that's why Brock Phoenix deserves a shout for DLotY.
James Lewandowski, one of the few true tight ends in the league, should be strongly considered for Tight End of the Year. After 8 games, his solid contribution to the Baltimore Hawk offense is worthy of note. He is currently 3rd in the league in yards with 289 for players labeled as Tight Ends in the index. His 27 catches are 5th in the league for his position and 3rd on Baltimore. His 10.7 yard average per reception is first among tight ends and his longest catch of 40 yards is best for his position. He has accounted for 19% of his team's receptions and 17% of his team's receiving yards. He only has 8 pancake blocks on the season to date, but he has not allowed any sacks. He has been a solid performer and is getting better each week. Unfortunately, the awards have become at times a discord popularity contest, and the big quiet types that do the dirty work on the field are constantly overlooked. The Hawks consider him valuable, but he has yet to be given any real respect in this league, as other "Tight Ends" rack up catches from the FB and WR position spots. Lewandowski deserves a nomination as a true tight end in the purest sense of the term.
Looking at the Sailfish roster, there are def a few people who will be in awards contention especially if we keep up the pace we are on. The first in line should be our Gms Frostbite and sakro. Sakro is in his first season as Co-Gm and is our testing maestro. He has been a huge part to why we have been so successful this year and has proven that he is the best sim tester in the league right now. Frostbite as the original Gm of an expansion, to get them this good this quick is so impressive. Many people thought that Sarasota should of tanked for their first few seasons, but Frost played to win from game 1. He was able to do that as well as set the team up for the future. There two should be recognized for their efforts if we can keep this up.
The other person that sticks out is Haha Mango Panda. He has been the best player on the best defense in the league so he should obviously be considered for some awards.I think he has one of the best cases for defensive performance of the year. In week 1, he had 9 tackles, 3 sacks a FF, and a pick. That is one of the most well rounded stat lines you will see this season and is a microcosm of what he has done for us all year. He is able to be a jack of all trades and really propel the defense on the back of his individual performances.
Written Option: S24 is nearly halfway over, and that means that the races for award season have begun in earnest. In 200 words or more, describe one or more players on your team (which can include yourself) and why you think that they are currently in contention for a particular award. Are their stats on pace to break records, or are they simply leading the pack? Is their efficiency or volume noteworthy? Would they possibly contend for one of the major awards as well?
This one is pretty easy for me honestly, Jamar has been on a tear this year. I've been teammates with Jamar since I entered the league. This guy consistently puts in the work to make sure he excels on and off the field. I would easily put him in for OPOY and possibly MVP for what he means to our offense. Jamar has amassed a total of 591 yards, 7 league leading touchdowns for RB, and averaging 4yds a carry. So, he sits first in TDs amongst RB, and 4th in yds and very well could finish second. Jamar also competes with are super talented other back Cardrissian. So when you factor in what he's contributed to turn around SJS while splitting carries, it goes to show what could be if he had a heavier load. The pretty pick will always be hanyadi, and not taking anything away from him but I believe Jamar with the 30 less attempts is putting together a better complete season and he still has more to show. If we make it into the playoffs look for him to be a key factor in us getting there and having success. That's my campaign for Jamar, and you could easily give Monty Most Improved. Our team is talented and these and many others stick out.
