Since the draft, Taffy's been hard at work, working on his speed and hands. He has even gotten noticeable bigger. He dominated the preseason, earning four offensive player of the game honors. In all the press conferences leading up to their week 1 game against Norfolk, Taffy had nothing to say but good things about his team.
"Leaf? That man's a star. Future top 5 quarterback in our league for sure. Jenkins is the perfect player for him to learn from. They'll learn a lot from each other. My fellow running backs, Jay Quick and Farley Hank are monsters! We will tear up DSFL defenses for sure. Coach Mcgriddlelover is the perfect innovator to help create the number one offense in the DSFL. I'm ready."
"Going through that tunnel, was surreal. This is the moment I've been waiting for. I've been training nearly all year for this. I'm ready."
Unfortunately, Taffy didn't play up his expectation. We caught up to him after his game against Norfolk, as the Coyotes lost 35-13.
"Man, I'm just happy to get out there. Obviously I'd love more touches, but I'm happy to see my teammates thrive. We've got to head back to practice and fix the problems that caused us too lose here and head after San Antonio. This is just a slow start."
In the second game of the season, Taffy saw his touches go up, and he finally started to resemble his prospect bowl stats. On 18 rushing attempts, he rushed for 99 yards and had one catch for 13 yards. He was happy to do another interview.
You guys did not unfortunately win, but you kept it close will 112 all purpose yards. What do you think went wrong, and how will you adjust for two against Portland?
"We went out there and tried, and we got outmatched. Shout outs to the boys in San Antonio, they didn't come to play around. We were the better offensive teams we just couldn't convert in the end zone. Coach will probably give us an earful on that but our red zone offense will be ready for Portland. We have the tools to take it all the way to the Ultimini, we've got a lot of rookies, its a learning process. I'm getting my licks, I'm finally get a taste of actions. I'm happy to be apart of this team, because we have the potential to improve---we will improve. Teams can keep sleeping on us but we are coming. Portland better prepare."
