Derred de Ville - Scouting Report
Introduction:
This is the first of several scouting reports that I’ll be writing on this upcoming DSFL draft class of LBs. Considering that they are a deciding factor on whether or not an offense will be able to dismantle your defense in the running game, Linebackers are an important position that every DSFL GM should be looking for on their draft board. This series of reports will be written so that DSFL GMs won’t need to look far to determine which of the LBs in the upcoming draft class will fit their needs best. Now, without further ado, here is my scouting report on the LB out of King’s College London, Derred de Ville.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
De Ville is perhaps the best starting-level linebacker in this draft, despite his relative inexperience in playing football. His above-average tackling form does however seem to show that he is prepared and ready to commit to being a professional football player. De Ville is very strong for a Speed Rushing Linebacker, and even a bit stronger than a few Power Rushing LBs, due to his above-average strength attribute. He’ll likely get an above average amount of bench press reps in at the combine, and shouldn’t be hurt very often when either making big hits or being trucked. His above-average speed is great as well, being better than that of quite a few CBs in this upcoming draft class. This’ll aid him greatly when rushing the QB, and it’s a skill that should not be overlooked by opposing teams. He’ll likely get a time in the 4.40s during the 40-yard dash at the combine. His above-average hands aid him as well, meaning that he won’t have much trouble when lining up against linemen who can be easily fooled with finesse moves. He’ll also likely be able to pick off a few passes during his career, if he’s in the right position to do so. However, he does still have a few weaknesses, despite his great physical upside. De Ville has relatively below-average intelligence for a linebacker, which means that he’ll have trouble determining what the opposing offense is planning. He likely will not be much of a cerebral linebacker once he reaches the pros. It is advised that he should not be played in as a MLB unless his football IQ improves somewhat. De Ville also has very below-average agility for a linebacker of his archetype. It’ll probably be difficult for him to perform any complex pass-rushing moves, such as the spin and fake spin moves performed by more agile OLBs and DEs. If he can develop a lethal swim move to counter this deficiency in agility, this weakness will be almost entirely mitigated. His average endurance does nothing to help him either, meaning that if he is forced to rush the passer on every down, he will likely burn out by the mid-late 3rd quarter. As of now, he is not a 3-Down OLB, but can become one with a lot of time spent on cardio workouts.

The best pro comparison for Derred de Ville would have to be Devin White, the former Linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Both White and de Ville are fast, hard-hitting, speed rushing LBs who can also play well in coverage depending on whether or not a play demands it. However, the biggest difference between the two is the amount of experience that they have, and along with that, the disparity in football IQ. The biggest knock on de Ville’s stock for me is his relative inexperience, but I do believe that this weakness, along with the intelligence that comes along with it, will be easily resolved during his time in the DSFL. It should be more than enough to rectify this weakness. I’d consider his ceiling to be Derrick Thomas, the former Linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs. If de Ville becomes more instinctual and develops his pass rushing moves, I believe that he’ll get to that level. I consider de Ville to have a median floor of Devin White and a high ceiling of Derrick Thomas.

Extras:
- Very tall for a linebacker of his archetype, measuring at 6’4”
- Weight is also quite adequate, weighing in at 246 lbs, which is neither good nor bad for a speed rushing linebacker
- Lack of experience playing football due to various reasons (starting late, being born and raised in a country that does not have a league of the sport, going to a college with a very young football program, etc.)
- Very old for a prospect at 24 years old, something that GMs should take note of
- No recorded high school statistics, troubling for scouts attempting to analyze the trajectory of his future career
- Great work ethic
- Funny name (Derred de Ville/The Red Devil)
Conclusion:
Teams that draft Derred de Ville should be advised that he is a project player that is going to take quite a bit of work to improve. He has a lot of upside, but still also has a whole lot of downside with this as well. Despite this, teams should be looking to draft him early on, late first round to early second round. If he drops, it’ll probably be either due to his relative inexperience with football, the fact that his college is one that just began a football program with low-quality opponents, or that he’s a foreigner that grew up in a country with no football in its history. Aside from that, I truly do believe that one day, maybe in his 2nd or 3rd NSFL season, de Ville will have the skills to pay the bills, in part due to his median floor and high ceiling, potential-wise. That is all.
