Chris Matthews was a highly recruited football tight end in high school. Sadly, his football career ended when he suffered from a debilitating knee injury during a high school game. Therapy for his knee took one year and three months. The scholarships Chris had were voided because colleges did not believe he would ever be the same.
A few years later, Chris had a child named Dre Matthews who was born in Brooklyn, New York. When Dre was 2, his parents decided to move to Orlando, Florida. Chris did not force Dre as a child to play football knowing what happened to him early in his career. However, one day Chris saw the love Dre had for the game of football. It reminded Chris about the love he once had when he played the game. Chris decided to put Dre in youth leagues to showcase his talent, and everyone was amazed the talent Dre had.
Dre attended Oak Ridge High School, and started for the football varsity team when he was just a freshman. Coaches saw the hard work and talent Dre had. They said they have never seen such hard work and dedication a young football player like Dre had. They also mentioned that his spirit in the locker room is unbelievable, he is a player that you want in your locker room.
Colleges did see the impact Dre had on his high school football. Dre was recruited as one of the best wide receivers in the nation and was ranked as the best wide receivers in the state of Florida. Dre had offers from Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Florida St. University of Florida, Georgia, and many more from other colleges. Dre ended up choosing University of Florida because he always loved the Gators and it was going to be the college his dad was going to attend before he had his injury.
Dre was a great college wide receiver for the University of Florida. He had a lot of great games and did still have the same impact he had in high school. During his time with the Florida Gators, they been to the National Championship Playoffs three times, as a freshman, sophomore, and junior. Luckily, he won a trophy with them his senior year.
Dre as of now is focusing on entering the DSFL draft. He's putting in the hard work, and dedication because he knows this process is going to be a long and tough one. He hopes to hopefully show people around the world what his father could of been if he had made it pro.
