Agreed. I don't want to be overly critical either, but I really dislike some of the nominations.
The way that they've privileged some stats over others (like tackles for LBs as you brought up) means that players at some positions have a zero, or almost zero chance of being nominated. The single season record for tackles is 144, held by K. Hendrix of the Baltimore Hawks all the way back in S1. They played 14 games in S1, so Hendrix averaged 10.3 tackles per game. Edmond's 135 tackles in 13 games is 10.4 tackles per game. Edmond averaged more tackles per game than the single-season record holder, and wasn't even nominated. In the sim, the MLB gets tackles while the SLB gets the flashier stats. If you can make more tackles per game than the single-season record holder and not even be nominated, then you're telling MLBs they have almost no chance of ever being nominated. But that's not the only weird nomination. If we look at defensive ends, I'd like to draw your attention to three players. Player A had 40 tackles, 14 TFLs, 1 FR and 7 sacks. Player B had 47 tackles, 13 TFLs, 2 FRs and 5 sacks. Player C had 35 tackles, 14 TFLs, 1 FF and 6 sacks. One of these players was nominated, and the other two weren't. Guess which one it was? That's right, it was Player B. The player with fewer TFLs and fewer sacks than both of the other players, at a position where making TFLs and getting sacks is the primary role. So why did Player B get nominated over both Player A and Player C? I guess it was his 7 extra tackles over Player A and 12 over Player C. The committee that devalued tackles a moment ago now thinks tackles are more important than TFLs and sacks. Let's look at the secondary now. Maybe those awards will be better? Five players were nominated for each of the cornerback of the year and safety of the year awards. There are five starting DB positions on 12 teams, so essentially 60 eligible players. Of the ten players, four play nickelback. The other six play cornerback or safety. Because of the way that the award committee has valued certain stats and devalued others, 40% of the nominees are nickelbacks despite them making up 20% of a starting secondary. A third of the league's nickelbacks were nominated for an award while an eighth of the league's starting cornerbacks or safeties were. Playing NB drastically increases your chance of the committee deciding you're worthy of an award in the same way that playing SLB does (all five of the LBotY nominees played SLB). I could carry on, but I've already written more than enough. ![]() [OPTION]S24 (PHI): 16 GP, 73 tackles, 1 TFL, 2 FF, 3 sacks, 5 INTs, 10 PDs, 2 TDs
