Written Option: There’s been a lot of talk about expansion drafts and what might be in store for the league going forward. If you were in charge of creating an expansion franchise, what would you name it and where would the team be located? In 200 words or more, describe why you picked that name and location and explain why your franchise would make a good NSFL team.

Having a quick skim through these pts I gotta say we have some boring cunts in here. Seeing to many people talking about 'oh we have to put teams in big markets wtf', get your New York's and Los Angeles outta here.

As one of the latest expansion gms we both knew from the start it had to be Honolulu, as it's a unique location which I have never seen in any of these sim leagues. We both agreed that big market cities are just boring and would only be picked to fill this 'status quo' towards real life, but this isnt real life. This is a sim league and we get to have fun here. We have animals, anime charachters and shapes playing the game and having a little more adventurous cities then your Seattles and Bostons is a way to have more fun teams. I do agree that the cities should be recognisable atleast. Like as fun as Antelope, South Dakota would be, that's like crossing the league to much. You have basic bitch and then you have wacky tabbacky outta the place. We want a nice in between.

One team that I would like to see, is a revival of an old GOMHL team which was only around for 1 season, but I loved the branding so much. 'Thunder Bay Reapers', now this brand would clash enormously with the already established Yellowknife Wraiths, but god damn did I love that brand and would love to see it make a return into the sim league world.

Despite already having a team in Austin and one in Dallas. If we ever get a team in Houston I would love to see the Houston Supernovas. Houston is known as the space city and supernovas are awesome.

I got my dream location, so now it's someone elses turn to create theirs.

If I were to propose an expansion team, I would go really crazy with it. I would want to either be in New York, I can't believe there's no at team there already or go international to Tokyo. The New York team is probably what I would go with. The Bronx B-Boys would be the name. It would have a hip hop theme and would be just a super chill team. I think you could have a lot of fun with the logo and branding. I think being a New York team you would also have more room to be shit talkers. I would do some weird things with the team where every ones profile picture would be of a rapper they like preferably with some photo shopped b-boy logos on them. I think something like that would be really fun. We would def need a very music centric discord, and look for players that enjoy to discuss music and show music they find. I am not very clever with hashtags, but I sure we could think of some cool things. For the colors I am thinking black and white, I know that is not a very popular color scheme for teams but I think you could make it work if you had the skill.

I believe I've talked about this before on the site but as a Detroit Lions fan while I don't really have a strong connection to the city itself, I do think it's a city worth bring a sim franchise to. In real life it's a sports hub with a team in all the major leagues. The city of Detroit is gritty, tough. It's the perfect place for a football team and hopefully one that could actually be successful which is why I'd want to have a team there. The team name I like that I have thought about is the Detroit Mustangs. I'd probably have a logo like the Indianapolis Colts, so the horse mustang mascot but you still have the play on the famous Ford car as well and maybe even use that as an alternate logo somehow. Only thing that people may not like about the branding is I love the silver and blue colors of the lions but I know blue can tend to be an overused color in sim league branding, especially considering it's the main color of the two newest teams in the league.

Another location that I'd like to see a team brought to is Washington, DC if for nothing else to have a football team in DC with a name that's not racist. It didn't bother me as much in the past and I'm not trying to virtue signal or whatever with this but it just feels wrong to me that a team with that name continues to exist. If I brought a team to DC, a name that I like is the Washington Warhawks which is kind of a parody of the military industrial complex in a way though I know we already have the Baltimore Hawks right down the street from DC so it wouldn't fly, pun intended. And with the Liberty already existing, something more patriotic might be stepping on their toes a little bit too. I would just love to see some sweet red, white and blue uniforms.

Alright, check this out. The NSFL has been great about expanding its reach internationally. We have a team in Mexico, Canada, and England. I propose a team in Dublin. They're close enough to London to draw some diehard football fans to take a flight on over. So for branding, we try not to divulge into stereotypes while honoring Ireland's rich history and culture. The Dublin Golden Luck would pack the house with rowdy drunken football fans who would likely be confused why a sport called football looks more like rugby but is neither. But with plenty of drinks to go around, they wouldn't care and would be converted rather quickly. The colors would be emerald and gold. Golden helmets, not unlike Notre Dame, but with green face masks. Green jerseys with gold numbers. Gold pants and green socks. On the left chest of the jersey (over the heart) an Irish flag replaces any team imagery. The logo would be a golden four-leaf clover. Since the helmet is gold, the player's number would replace the logo on one side, while the other side is left blank. The on-field mascot would be a man in a foam pint suit with Mickey Mouse hands. Tell me that's not tacky.

I'm from New Jersey, and my state is usually looked as an extra suburb of New York or East Philadelphia. When not being mocked for those, New Jersey is often derided for spawning guidos and toxic waste which is not true. Guidos usually come from Staten Island and Connecticut and New Jersey stores landfill, not create it. Without us, many Union colonies would have starved through the rough times as we were the first state to create widespread use of electricity and were mass producers of bread and grains --- so everyone should be thankful to us that July 4th is Independence Day and not Tea and Crumpet Day.

Unfortunately, my state has had trouble with professional sports teams. For one, half the teams that play in the state don't even have "New Jersey" in their name. Depending on where you live, you don't even get regional sports coverage of the teams in the state. I have been a diehard for all the teams with "NJ" or "New Jersey" on their chest, which is now down to one. Football was my first love when I was still in high school a decade ago, but even as I moved around in my youth, I felt an emptiness being unable to claim a local football team of my own from my birth state --- whether professional or collegiate. Every Madden and NCAA and NFL2K I played, I always had to create a franchise in New Jersey to fill that void.

My new team would be in New Jersey to help ease that pain of those locals who dont want to feel pressured into cheering for other dirty teams just because they are the next closest alternative or for those who look for random instances of chance and connection to eschew themselves into a random fanbase. We would be called the Swamp Dragons because, no lie, in the late 90's when the New Jersey Nets were in the process of changing ownership, the team underwent a re-brand that included a more than possible change to the Swamp Dragon nickname that was "reconsidered" at the last second. For those that do not get the reference, the Nets, Giants, Jets, and Devils all used to play deep in East Rutherford, right outside the fairgrounds at the Meadowlands, but the entire area was surrounded by mosses and swamps, hence the "Swamp" nickname. Who doesn't want to play for a cool mascot like the Swamp Dragons? Just imagine the Phoenix Coyote "Peyote" logo in a vintage Toronto Raptors or Vancouver Grizzlies design. We'd be the hottest team, with the best gear, rowdiest fans, and electric and eccentric playstyle and characters to back it up.

One thing that makes simulation sports league special is the ability to be absolutely absurd in a variety of ways. From spicy ludicrous inter-player drama to player characters that make no physical sense you truly have a large area to let your imagination run wild. That's why I propose an expansion team on the Middle Earth continent. If it were up to me I'd probably go with the Mordor Marauders or something simple like that. Originally I thought Orcs, but that's pretty racist honestly, might as well just name the team the Mordor Greenskins at that point. A team based on a different realm of existence could prove problematic for teams that have to learn how to transcend the earthly plane, but many teams are already halfway there, like the Royals or the Wraiths. An extraplanar team also opens up a completely new media market for the sport we love. Who wouldn't be interested in seeing what kind of strategies hobbits would devise? And if they've switched from their grey to their white uniforms at halftime, you know you're in trouble. It also opens up a new way to debate the game. For instance, what if the Seahawks had given the ball to Eagles in the super bowl? Could they have won, or would be the Eagles be corrupted by the power of the football and hand it over to Macolm Butler anyway? The possibilities are endless. Anyway, Mordor would be a fantastic location for a new franchise, it would even open the door for there to be a team set in an empty, godless, hellscape. Oh wait I forgot about yellowknife, well okay there would be two.

Introducing the Cincinnati Schnauzers.

Professional football started in the state of Ohio. Canton holds the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and the Akron Pros won the first ever NFL championship. Therefore, it's only fitting that Ohio has an NSFL franchise. Though the DSFL has two dog teams in the Birddogs and Coyotes, the NSFL does not have any dog mascots. The Shnauzers would add more animal variety to the NSFL which has two fish teams, a bird team, a snake team, a cat team, and an otter team.
Schnauzers are the perfect fit for the city of Cincinnati. Cincinnati is a German city through and through, and is known for its German culture, including beer, schnitzel, goetta, pretzels, and the largest Oktoberfest in the United States. Schnauzers are the best German dog breed (sorry dachshunds!) as they are intelligent, athletic, and tough. The AKC describes their temperament as "Fearless, Smart, Spirited;" three qualities that are important for football players. Their distinctive beards make them stand out among dog breeds as unique. This team would fit very well in today's NSFL. It's location in Cincinnati would make it a great candidate to join the NSFC, positioned relatively close to Chicago, Baltimore, and Philadelphia. Schnauzers' coloring would also works well with the current team colors in the NSFL. Schnauzers are often salt-and-pepper or black-and-silver. A gray primary uniform color would avoid redundancy with our teams as there is not yet a gray NSFL team. The designer of the team logo could pick other colors to use as secondary colors on the trim of the uniform; perhaps the blue and red featured on the city flag.

Because of my spicy food fandom - Buffalo Wings, Carolina Reapers, Trinidad Scorpions
