What’s up everyone, this is my take on valuable targets for each team. This list is not numbered by most valuable to least it is just going to be the top targets I believe will be focused on by expansion teams based on value. I will let you know some teams were easier to find value compared to others which seemed to have locked down their most valuable players. This was done under the potential of the career of a player with a team and not so much the immediate return. Certain teams locked down the future talent on their team so you will see certain veterans going as well. Enjoy the read and sorry in advance if I butchered this lol.
The format of the weird numbers are Season Player was drafted/Current TPE in TPE tracker/Player Name/Position.
Outlaws:
1. S23-529-Julio Jones-OL
Summary: Julio Jones is another young and elite prospect at a coveted linemen position. He is part of another completely unprotected position group that is full of studs. Jones stands out as a whole season younger and is on par to outpace one of the veterans if not both on this Arizona outlaws’ team.
2. S22-711-Sandro Ryeu-DE
Summary: For the Outlaws it is their literal one and only Defensive End Sandro Ryeu. Sandro is the team’s only defensive end and he is a powerhouse. With being only an S22 player and on his way to be the team’s top defensive linemen he would be a potential steal for the DE position.
3. S22-714-Thomas Passman-WR
Summary: Thomas Passman is poised to take the team's number one wide receiver role as the veteran Saba Donut is on the decline in his older age. He is on pace to have a breakout season next year as he grows into an even bigger role working alongside young tight-end Heath Evans. With him not being protected it would be a strong move to snag a great wide receiver while handicapping a team’s receiving core.
4. S23-558-Joseph Petrongolo – RB
Summary: Joseph Petrongolo is the team’s top rusher and is an S23 player leaving him with plenty of opportunities to grow. The fact that AZ has chosen not to protect any of their RB’s including this up and coming star shows either how talented their team is, or they feel that there will be better options on the table in the expansion draft at the RB position so theirs won’t be taken (brave move if that’s the belief).
We can see how much potential talent that could be lost by the outlaws in the up and coming season, it's just the price you pay for having great developing players on your team.
Austin Copper Heads
I feel the need to preface this with the copperheads did a great job protecting their prospects only letting one slide through the cracks, which is understandable seeing as how you can’t protect them all.
1. S16-1069-Easton Cole-QB
Easton is without a doubt the most veteran player on this list. He has hit regression for a while now but continues to be active and participating. Quarterbacks are an actual desert for the expansion draft seeing as how the younger ones and elite ones are usually protected Easton Cole will without a doubt be one of the best options at the position and would give time for an expansion team to draft and develop a rookie.
2. S18-919-Net Gaines-WR
Wide receiver is one of the positions where there is plenty of youth to fill future roles. The copper heads have made their point of their protections to secure their future which is smart, this provides some expansion teams the opportunity to secure high-level talent even in their first year, and Gaines provides that elite talent.
As previously stated the Copper Heads have done a phenomenal job with retaining their prospects as the veterans hit their decline. With that said they could lose immediate impact players/starters.
Baltimore
1. S21-576-Net Gaines-S
Net Gaines is one of two defensive backs that could be snagged away from Baltimore. They fall right in the middle of the pack for possible DB grabs, this is because they are still active and updating, but it doesn't seem that they are maximum earning or at least at one point in time they weren't. With that said defensive backs are the staple of this league and find one that is still pushing those TPE numbers up and isn't protected is a great find.
2. S23-548-Lesean Paris Crooks-CB
Summary: Finally, I get to talk about an unprotected up and coming cornerback in the league. This is just one of those un ideal scenarios for Baltimore, but one that can be taken advantage of by the expansion teams. Lesean Paris Crooks is a talented cornerback who is sadly behind two existing talented S22 cornerbacks on the team. He is the 5th best Defensive Back on the team where he could see some playing time in the oh so common five defensive back sets that the league loves to run. With that said he is closing out his S23 year with Baltimore and could see himself as a star cornerback for a new team next season.
Rounding out the Baltimore team you have two great prospects that play opposite sides of the ball during practice but going forward they could be playing against each other next season.
Chicago Butchers
I feel the need to open this with, why did Chicago waste a perfectly good protection slot on the Tyron Shields guy? Oh well, I guess we all make mistakes.
1. S22-661-Mario VonPebbles-DE
Summary: Mr. VonPebbles will join Sandro Ryeu as a top Defensive End prospect for the upcoming expansion draft. Von Pebbles is a top earner for his team and hopefully future team as he is the second highest-earning defensive linemen on this team.
2. S22-605-Julio Tirtawidjaja-RB
Summary: Julio is another player that falls into the sweet spot for the expansion draft. He is a phenomenal player who is behind S21 star running back Baby Yoda. The fact they are so close in age is what really kept him from being protected and could lead to him being a top running back in the draft.
3. S22-603-Von Hayes-TE
With there being a lot of talented TE prospects being protected Von Hayes makes a great prospect for a potential long-term starter for any team he ends up on
Colorado Yeti
This was a hard one and they did a phenomenal job at making their team look unwanted in the draft. The left most of their veterans unprotected and made sure they saved their top upcoming talent. This would be a natural deterrent for an expansion team since they are trying to get the most value for each pick to secure their future. Leaving me to choose to veterans on the verge of decline but can secure competitive play right now.
1. S18-1044-Earl Sauce-TE
Might as well keep the tight end trend going. Earl Sauce would provide an on the field immediate impact that the new expansion teams could be looking for. He would without a doubt be one of the most experienced players going into this expansion draft if he were to be drafted.
2. S20-725-Warren Stevens-LB
Warren Stevens is in a weird position he is at a highly valuable position and while still active he hasn't updated in a while. With that said the value of the position alone will carry its own value going into this expansion draft where most linebackers are protected.
Colorado has positioned themselves to be slightly unscathed from the expansion, they secured their future and made the potential of taking their players unappealing to a new developing expansion team.
Honolulu Hahalua
1. S20-1035-Venus Powers-K/P
Kickers' lives matter too if you didn’t know. With Venus being unprotected which I have come to find out isn’t uncommon, they could be a top K/P to still in the expansion draft to secure that special team’s edge. I should also say they have the highest TPE on their team.
Honolulu doesn’t have too much to offer to the expansion draft which I’m not sure is a good or bad thing. They don’t have an immense pool of talent and what talent they do have on the roster, they have strategically protected, meaning they should be good for the future. I will say I was considering adding three different players to the list but they protected a player labeled "KMM" which I don't know if you all have checked out their roster but that could fit no one, but at the same time it could fit three different.....um unique names.
New Orleans Second Line
At first glance, I thought I was going to find some young talent at NOLA since they protected a good number of their veterans. With that said I quickly found out NOLA has a relatively old team on the roster.
1. S18-1264-Givussafare Rubbe-OL
With what I said previously kept in mind we start off with an S18 player. Givussafare Rubbe is arguably one of the best offensive linemen in the league let alone one of the best linemen in the league let alone the expansion draft. With age, regression will soon hit but he will offer an immediate impact for an expansion team in a role that is far and few to come by.
It seems the older the team the harder it is to find viable expansion team prospects. With that said NOLA will at least offer up some linemen talent for the new team.
Orange County Otters
1. S22-700-Jeffrey Phillips-TE
Summary: Jeffrey Phillips is another great young prospect that could possibly be the number one tight end off the board. Losing the top tight end could up leaving a hole in Orange County. This would not only offer an immediate impact for an expansion team but from where they are so young, he could be a career playing for them all said and done.
Orange County really made this hard, every time I found a top prospect, they were protected......I mean these guys protected THREE safeties. I also wanted to add Rapid Eagle as an option, but it seems they haven’t updated since the beginning of August.
Philadelphia Liberty
1. S23-428-Karmichael Hunt-K/P
Yes, I know what you are thinking but another kicker has arrived. This would fill the need of both teams if needed, but it would also provide an active younger option on the board as well.
I don’t know if I’m just becoming pickier the further down the list I get or if the majority of prospects just coincidentally was in more abundance towards the beginning, Liberty doesn’t have a lot of talent but what they do have has been recognized and accounted for.
Sarasota Sailfish
1. S23-595-Son Goku-DE
Son Goku the great offers some of the most potential value from a defensive player, being able to lineup outside in large packages allows him to be very versatile. Being a young fresh S23 player and seeing him develop this far shows how high his ceiling is, being lined up across the line of scrimmage from him would be a disaster for most. Sarasota would lose their second-best linemen and number one defensive end, which is also another common theme I am running across.
2. S23-496-Eric Richards-S
Finally, a freaking safety! Eric Richards the third safety on the roster, but the youngest with the most potential. As I have now found out DB’s are rare to come by, either they are protected or they are not top earners, either way, we are bound to see Eric Richards fly off the table relatively quickly.
San Jose SaberCats
1. S22-620-Matt Krause-CB
Another defensive back to be thrown to the wolves and picked up by an expansion team. As previously stated in the era of a five defensive back system they are valuable, and it is hard to keep more than two cornerbacks in the coming updraft. Matt Krause will make any team he lands with a top tier competitor.
2. S22-636-George ’Corpse Grinder’ Fisher-LB
Man, where the other teams taketh the saber cats giveth. The coveted linebacker position that is so highly protected by teams has not been covered by them. With Blackenridge in decline, I triple checked the list to make sure I wasn’t missing Fisher on it......but he wasn’t there. The saber cats may be tossing up candy to the expansion teams and hurting themselves in the process. Only time will tell how it plays out.
3. S22-465-Brendan Lanier-S
Although his TPE is lower than normal he is still active and upgrading, this will be another possible dominating defensive back in the future, I just wonder for what team it will be on?
Yellowknife Wraiths
To close out this breakdown we got the Yellowknife wraiths. The key take from the wraiths would be another Safety!
1. S22-553-Brendan Lanier-S
Ending it strong with a top tier safety for an elite defense. That’s it.... sorry Brendan ya boi has exhausted any form a mental power I have which was little to start. You’re a goat and so good you might as well say goodbye to your existing team and say hello to your new teammates.
I would like to thank everyone who took the time to read this. I am sorry this is my first time doing something like this, so some stuff is accurate and some probably are way off. I hope to learn and do more like this moving forward. I understand there are some players that are phenomenal pickups from other teams there will most likely be a lost QB in all of this, but I wasn’t sure what the most valuable QB choice could end up being. Good luck to the expansion teams on a good draft, and hopefully teams can come out of this retaining most of their powerhouses.
P.S. Overthrow the tyrannical regime at HO!
