It has been a bumpy ride for Clark Boyd and the Berlin Fire Salamanders, to say the least. 2 seasons ago, Clark managed to earn a nomination for tight end of the year, albeit due to the ineligibility of James Angler. Last season, Clark broke 500 receiving yards for the first time in his professional career, even with fledgling quarterback Nick Kaepercolin. And now, after 7 weeks in S26, not only is Clark sitting with a measly 163 receiving yards, the team lost their first 5 games in a row. What the hell happened? Is it just bad luck? In the draft, Berlin took numerous defensive players who would help the team out, some of which immediately. But in those first 5 weeks, the defense was unbelievably worse than that of last season's, which in itself was weak as well.
Despite his growth, both physically and technically, Clark has not seen any improvement. He is actually on track for his worst season yet, looking back as far as his DSFL days. This is discouraging, but he still shows up every day for practice and every week for games. Perhaps his lack of production is due to more intense coverage by opponent defenses, due to his ability to break free if left open. Assuming that is the case, Clark is still content with being the distracting option, as it has allowed up-and-comer Cmon Skiuuup to take the extra reps as a TE2. In fact, Cmon is 50 yards ahead of Clark in terms of receiving yards, although without scoring a touchdown yet. It will come soon enough.
As far as the team is concerned, Berlin is bouncing back strong, and winning in the upcoming weeks will help solidify their position as a strong team, and perhaps even get them into the playoff. Actually, they will make the playoffs. For sure. No doubt in my mind.
