(S27) PT5 - Highlight Reel

Oof, now this was hard to answer. Not because of a lack of highlights on my part though...oh wait, that's exactly why. I know some cool things happened in the league this season like they do every season. But I don't follow the rest of the league. I'm a fan of myself and whatever team I play for. Every other team is poopy. But it turned out that my team was very poopy this season. This year isn't over yet but right now we're 3-12. If we are to win tomorrow then it would only be my 2nd worst record in league history. And I was...not very good. Unless I get 15 tackles tomorrow, this is gonna be my first season with under 100 tackles. So, I guess the only highlights I have to speak of are the games we won...all 3 of them. Our first win was a tightie against the Arizona Outlaws 32-31. We were down by 11 in the 4th quarter to it was nice to stumble upon 12 points. We won 2 weeks later against the Yeti 34-21. That brought us to 2-2 with all of the confidence in the world. But just as my confidence goes in the ISFL, it diminished as the season went on. We lost our next 9 straight and stumbled upon a 20-10 win against the Silverbacks that meant nothing because we're already out of it. We play OCO tomorrow night. A win would be cool. A loss...is probable. I need a nap. A loooooooooong nap.

Wiliam Lim has had a few good games through the course of this season, as he currently sits near the top for award contention. Among those games, the most "highlight reel" worthy game was the week 8 away game against the Orange County Otters. Granted, this game wasn't the best when it comes to yards. Actually, it was below average in terms of that, as all William got was 81 yards in 7 receptions. However, what makes this game worthy of the highlight reel is the touchdowns and the fashion they came.
In total, William scored 3 touchdowns that day. The first one he scored was not a receiving touchdown like he usually does, but a 100 yard kick return touchdown. This touchdown, the first (and only) kick return touchdown for Lim this season so far, and only the second of his career, ended up tying the game at 14 in the early second quarter.

The next touchdown, a 6 yard reception from Caliban, also came at a crucial moment. That touchdown ended up giving the Yeti a lead of this game for the first time, as it added six points to their board while the Yeti were trailing the Otters 21-17.
The third and final touchdown came late into the fourth quarter, when the Yeti already had a 10 point lead. A 4 yard reception from Caliban to Lim extended that lead to 17, basically sealing the game. (239)

Highlights. Well, I am going to start right at the start of the season twenty eight International Simulation Football Season where in week one the Berlin Fire Salamanders played against the Baltimore Hawks. It all started out so well for Achtfunf who in the off season had made the position swap from kicker and punter to wide receiver to help out catching balls from quarter back Nick Kaepercolin. After the first game of the season the stat line for the fresh wide receiver read like this.

Targets - Twelve
Receptions - Nine
Yards - Seventy Six
Long - Fifteen
Touch downs - Two

This wide receiver this is fairly easy then isn't it. First time out and I've scored multiple touchdowns and getting the ball thrown to be a fair bit. Happy days it is going to be a great season. Well the only problem with this and it was a quick come back to earth in the few games following but that is you do not get to play the Baltimore Hawks every week and line up against those corner backs.

One other highlight of the season was scoring a seventy plus yard touchdown against the Sarasota Sailfish. Sure this game ended in a loss but at the time that was a huge play and it is always fun to score the long touchdowns.

This season has seen a whole more ups than down for L'Gazzy Burfict, but that may all change in a weeks time when playoffs arrive. But looking back on the season so far there have been a few games where hes managed to make his mark on the opposition.

Starting in week 4 when the Outlaws hosted the Silverbacks, Burfict registering his first ISFL sack in the fourth quarter by bringing down Howitzer. A moment to cherish, and perhaps a sign that he was starting to find his feet after transitioning up from DSFL.

Moving on to week 11 when the Copperheads came to Arizona. In the prior week Burfict had delivered tackles, pass deflections and an interception vs Orange County, but with Austin he took things up a level and registered three sacks, taking home DPoG. Worth noting that Daytona was sacked seven times that day, so it wasnt only Burfict having fun out there.

And then to week 15, the Outlaws travelling to New York for the reverse fixture from week 4. And what made the highlight reel that day? Well Burfict managed to register his first ISFL safety and picked up his second DPoG of the season, dragging down Howitzer deep into the 3rd quarter. I think he enjoys playing against that guy!

So there you have it. Burfict wont be on top of any leaderboards in terms of tackles, sacks, interceptions but heis only getting better. It wont be long until the former DSFL DPotY and LBotY is challenging for awards, just you wait.

I am going to use my point task space this week to shamelessly plug the true hero of the International Simulation Football League, New York Silverbacks fullback Buster Bawlls. This man is an absolute legend, a force of nature to be reckoned with every time he takes the field, and we are proud to have him as part of our squad every single day. However, one game in particular stands head and shoulders above the rest: our week eight showing against the Baltimore Hawks. Obviously the Hawks are in the middle of perhaps the worst season in recent memory, so we expected this game to be a win from the beginning; what we could not have anticipated was the quality of play we would see from Buster Bawlls. Now, we obviously always anticipate a clutch pancake or two from our stud fullback, so the three pancakes he posted that game were far from a surprise; however, Buster Bawlls also carried the ball twice that game, and he certainly made the most of those carries, taking one 24 yards to the house for the game's opening touchdown, and the other a ridiculous 71 yards to set the table for a chip shot field goal from Dougie Smalls. I think people are going to overlook this performance because he only scored once, but really, this is one of those moments that, as a fan, you can never forget.

As many Grey Duck fans would agree, our highlight of the season came in week 10 against the Portland Pythons. After starting off 0 - 4, the Ducks knew they had to do something drastic in order to have a shot at the playoffs. They improved their record to 4 - 5 and looked forward to the opportunity to beat the Pythons, the top team in their division. This was the chance they needed to cement their position as playoff contenders. The game went back and forth: MINN took an early lead only to see POR tie it up and eventually go ahead by 4 points late in the third quarter. MINN got the ball with 11 minutes left in the game. The offense started driving but set back with a false start penalty. It was now 2nd and 15. Everyone understood that they needed to finish this drive with a TD. With that in mind, TE Bender Rodriguez ripped a clutch 19 yard reception (his longest of the year!) to get the first down and keep the Ducks' hopes alive. The offense continued to move and, after an impressive 8 minute long drive, scored a TD to go ahead by 3, leaving POR with only one shot to come back. They took advantage and drove all the way down to the MINN 28 yard line. They were within field goal range but with 52 seconds left on the clock, they wanted to seal the game with a TD. The POR quarterback dropped back for, saw his target open, and launched the ball. Little did he know that Grey Ducks' safety "Captain" John Price was baiting him. At the very last moment he stepped in front of the receiver and intercepted the ball, ensuring a Grey Ducks victory. The Pythons' stadium fell silent, fans shocked to see it end this way. All you could hear was the thunderous hype of the Grey Ducks' players. With this victory, they knew that their dream of making the playoffs was more real than ever.
