Defensive Line Standouts - Week 13
Welcome to week 13 of our weekly look at defensive line performances across the league. This is our last week with all 8 NSFL teams playing, and as such, will most likely be our last full list. With Arizona and Philadelphia as the only teams who have currently had a bye, it will be interesting to see if they can make some moves in the standings, especially Philadelphia. Is anyone able to stop the defensive lineman duo out in Las Vegas? Only time will tell! Enough chit chat… Let’s begin!
Defensive End Top Performers
F. Wozy
($ x9) 5 TCK, 1 TFL, 2 SCK
After his 5 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 2 sacks, Wozy earned our top spot for defensive ends this week, and his ninth time on our list. He is now tied with Hendrix of Baltimore and Tuck of Arizona for the most appearances by a defensive end. Colorado hosts Baltimore at home next week for their last regular season game of the year and absolutely must win to keep any playoff hopes alive.
E. Charlton
($$$$) 4 TCK, 1 TFL, 2 SCK
Making his fourth appearance on our list, Charlton was able to clinch his spot with a 4 tackle, 1 tackle for loss and 2 sack performance. It was a very impressive performance and something the SaberCats hope to see more of next year out of their former third round pick. San Jose has a bye week next week and takes to the road to face Philadelphia in the final game of the season.
B. Bjornsson
($ x8) 4 TCK, 3 TFL, 1 SCK
While there have been some good performances from teammates this year, Bjornsson is clearly the bright spot on a defensive line to ranks second to last in appearances here. His 4 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and 1 sack were more than enough for his to earn his eighth appearance on our list. Yellowknife hosts the 8-5 Orange County Otters in their final regular season game of the year. A win all but guarantees a playoff spot.
Other Great Performers
K. Hendrix
($ x9) 2 TCK, 2 TFL
T. Bullard
($$$$) 2 TCK, 2 TFL
A. Tomlinson
($ x6) 3 TCK, 1 TFL
Although none of the above players were able to notch any sacks this week, their backfield disruptions and run support were more than enough to warrant an appearance here. Hendrix leads the Hawks with 9 appearances and is tied for the most appearances of any defensive end. Tomlinson is tied for the lead on his team with defensive tackle J. Reigns. They both have 6 appearances.
Defensive Tackle Top Performers
M. Ramrio
($ x12) 6 TCK, 1 TFL, 1 SCK
Once again sitting atop our defensive tackle list, Ramrio is making his league leading twelfth appearance here. Hi 6 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 1 sack was just enough to narrowly edge out Chunk of San Jose. The Legion have a bye next week, essentially opening up 2 spots on our defensive tackle list. Their final game of the season will be in week 15 against the Arizona Outlaws, in Arizona.
L. Chunk
($ x5) 5 TCK, 1 TFL, 1 SCK
Chunk has really made a name for himself recently, and is making his moved from linebacker to defensive tackle look like a stroke of pure genius by the SaberCats front office. His 5 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 1 sack were enough to earn his fifth appearance on our list. The SaberCats have 1 remaining game, week 15 against the Philadelphia Liberty.
V. Cox
($ x11) 4 TCK, 1 SCK
B. Bot
($ x5) 4 TCK, 1 SCK
V. Cox and B. Bot posted Identical stat-lines this week, and as such, I have increased the top performers list to 4. Both finished their game with 4 tackles and 1 sack yet, Bot’s team won their game and Cox’s team did not. Cox’s eleventh appearance here is enough to put him into 2nd place, behind only 1 player, his fellow Las Vegas Legion defensive, Ramrio.
Other Great Performers
B. Metas
($ x5) 4 TCK, 1 TFL
A. Asipi
($ x7) 2 TCK, 1 SCK
Metas is making his fifth appearance here after his 4 tackle, and 1 tackle for loss performance in a tough loss against the Orange County Otters. Asipi, on the other hand, is making his seventh appearance here, and is the only member of the Outlaws represented on our list this week.
Team Appearances After Week 13
Las Vegas: 30
Arizona: 24*
Baltimore: 24
Colorado: 20
San Jose: 18
Orange County: 16
Yellowknife: 14
Philadelphia: 11*
While there was no movement in the actual rankings, the Hawks were able to tie the Outlaws for second place. However, the Outlaws have already had their bye, while the Hawks have not. Interesting note, the Yellowknife Wraiths are the only team with a player that accounts for over half their appearances. Bjornsson has 8 of the 14 appearances, and although Spearhead has appeared a respectable 4 times, it’s obvious they will need to get Bjornsson some more help for next year. Philadelphia was the only team to not make an appearance on our list this week and, unsurprisingly, are currently in last place on our list. All teams marked with an asterisk have had their bye week. As always, please feel free to share your thoughts and comments below!
