do you understand how CFB rankings work? if you're in the top 4 and lose early in the season to a top 4 team you're not gonna fall hard and still have a good chance of making the playoffs

That isn't even entirely true either. USC was ranked #20 when UW lost to them @ HOME! They still made the CFP. It all depends how the teams around them perform. College football changes so much every year a 1 loss team who does NOT lose to a top 4 team can still make the playoffs. Record means a lot in CFB.
