Defensive Line

Combine Defensive End and Defensive Tackle to 1 position and have 5-6 archtypes. because of our shortage of DTs and many DEs playing the interior position, why dont we just combine them? Just throwing it out there. I dont even know if this is a good idea or not.

Nose Tackle - Heavy/slow
Run Stopper - strong/tackling
Speed Rusher - light/fast
Power Rusher - strong/agile
Balanced - balanced/IDK

I've killed enough positions for one offseason. I'll let the others weigh in. I don't see a problem with the idea as long as we approach it properly and run tests.

I'm with you on this. Players move around the line frequently enough in the NFL, no reason it shouldn't happen here. You could even keep the archetypes the same (or very similar) and just change the position to defensive line (DL). Obviously, a bunch of testing would be needed.

I think this is a bad idea.

The sim specifically has a DT and DE positions and I believe they should be separate positions. A DT could function as a DE and visa versa, however they should do better at their given role.

I've spent a lot of time/energy/thought balancing the defensive line and believe they are in a pretty good spot. Currently the relative performance is around a 5% difference between the best and worst archetypes which is definitely fine.

The only other concerns that could possibly happen is balanced archetypes just being kind of mediocre compared to the other niche archetypes, and nose tackle and interior rusher possibly needing further buffs. Again, the balance is still in a good spot compared to what it used to be.

I think this could help nip the Bjornsson dominating at DT cause of his DE skills in the bud, I totally support this

I think the OL changes are actually going to be what affects this the most. Most teams were playing their best OL at the tackle positions. The lower strength cap on DE is going to make it extremely hard to get pressure up the middle where you can't simply run past the blocker

Actually, I don't think this is a bad idea.

I think it's currently unnecessary. I think the end result would be like 2 archetypes for DT and 2 archetypes for DE if we combined everything. At least currently you can specialize a bit more.
