Hello there! My agent said that it would be good for my draft stock to answer a few questions for the media and prospective teams. Ask away!
@SouljaBoy2007: Have any teams reached out and contacted you about showing interest in you?
First off, thank you for the question! As of now, yes there has been a couple teams that have reached out to me showing preliminary interest. I am happy to answer all of their questions. Obviously I won't break their trust by naming which teams have shown interest.
Generic Reporter: Have teams expressed concern over your family's alleged mafia ties?
I am not going to say that it hasn't been brought up, but I don't think that it has factored into their assesment of what I can bring to a team. For the fan's out there, I will however say this. Yes, it is true that my father had connections with illegal money lending communities in New Jersey, but I have not spoken to him since I was very young and I have never been threatened by the mafia or had anyone reach out on their behalf. I, myself, have never been involved in any illicit activities and I have been an active member of the communities I have lived in, including my home town in B.C. and Eugene, Oregon, where I went to school. Thank you for the question.
A different generic reporter...lets call him Ian Schefter: What team in the DSFL have you followed most closely?
Well, going to school at Oregon, I of course was a big fan of the Portland Pythons. I have spent most my life in this area so they were a team I grew up admiring. That being said, I am excited at the opportunity to play for whomever ends up drafting me. My goal is to win a championship, and we fell short of that at Oregon. I am excited to work my a** off every day and be a positive force for my team and my teammates.
@Ben: What kind of bear is best?
Thank you for the question Ben! First thing, growing up on the coast of British Columbia you really have to respect bears. Black bears were a common sight and grizzlies would be around every so often. But when I think about this question, I have to think about one bear that clearly resonated with me from a very young age. As I hinted to earlier, I grew up on the coast, in the middle of the largest temperate rainforest in the world. The one bear that helped people the most was of course, Smokey the Bear. He lead the area in wildfire education, saving lives, and gaining celebrity all in one fell swoop. If I could be a fraction of the positive influence Smokey was, then I know I will be doing a solid for the world around me, and being a positive influence is really the best thing we can hope to achieve in life.
@PDXBaller: What is the best part about competing?
First, thank you so much for this and the other questions! There are so may great things about competing. I have had the honour of competing on two national level teams (in basketball and rugby) as well as helping Oregon defeat Ohio St in the Rosebowl last year. I think what I really love about competing in the highest level, is the feeling you get from your teammates and competitors pushing you to get better, and you pushing them as well. Also, the high of winning is unlike anything else in the world. I intend to be part of a winning team and winning culture and I am so excited to contribute to that with my work ethic and by helping push my fellow teammates.
@PDXBaller: Would you consider yourself better than the other linebackers in this draft? How?
Do I consider myself to be better than them? That's an interesting question. I look around at this draft class and I can see why this is one of the deepest drafts in the history DSFL at my position. I think that every one of the linebackers in this draft has something to bring to the league. That being said, I never go into something wanting to be the second best. I want to be the best. I don't think you can say any one of us is "the best" right now, because we are all unpolished. But one thing I will say, every team that doesn't draft me will regret it because the team that drafts me is going to win the championship.
@PDXBaller: Where do you feel confident in your body?
I certainly don't lack in confidence. The areas I work on the most are my speed, my hands, my intelligence, and my tackling. I want to be a play maker, a game changer, at tone setter. I want to make a quarterback pay for thinking he can get a pass over my head.
@PDXBaller: How do you prepare for each game?
I won't go into full detail here, but I am happy to give some insight. Typically the week prior to the game involves game tape watching, studying, practice, and weight lifting. The team typically determines the schedule for this. I always try to get a full nights sleep before the game.
Thank you for all of your questions. I look forward to the prospect bowl this week as well as the draft and to my future in the league. See you all out there.
