After a stunning off-season that saw the San Jose Sabercats change management for the first time in what seems to be a century, there was talk of the team moving up 40 miles up to Oakland to call that side of the bay their new home.
San Jose legislature, not wanting to lose their team, have come up with and have approved a budget for a large-scale renovation of their stadium. Citing the age of the stadium and lacking of certain modern amenities, the stadium will undergo a dramatic upscaling in what will be, as reported, the highest allocated renovation for an NSFL stadium in the history of the league.
While not many details have been released, some speculate on what will be updated, such as the team's parking facilities, the team's hall of fame, or even all the way to renovating the team bathrooms.
The one confirmed change will be the renaming of the field as well as a sponsor change for the stadium as a new company has bought naming rights to the stadium. As of now, it appears the name of the combined field and stadium will be...
Chaos Field at Broadcom Stadium.
Broadcom, one of the biggest companies and employers in the city of San Jose have agreed to purchase the stadium's naming rights for the next few seasons. Of course, Chaos Field, was named after long tenured General Manager, Professor Chaos, as the team looks to honor legends from their time. It is speculated the Chaos could be one of few to be inducted to the San Jose Sabercats' Hall of Fame and Ring of Honor sometime this season or next and that part of the massive stadium renovation is updating the stadium's hall of fame area in addition to an impressive ring of honor of sorts around the field itself. It will be interesting to see, but with new management looking to honor the former managers and players in San Jose history, it is very likely that we see something of the sort in the Sabercats' near future.
While Oakland fans are sad to not have a team come in, the fans have under an hour drive to get to the stadium and can still support the team. There are no hard feelings as the city of San Jose stepped up big in order to keep the Cats exactly where they need to be.
