Week eight of the NSFL season was one of the most exciting for me as a fan. We had a few absolute blowouts, a lot of surprising upsets, and we had some defenses have their best games of the season. We saw one team pull away from the pack and one stumble all the way to the depth of the league. Lets dive into this week's fan reviews!

10-30, Hawks win. This game started off looking like it was going to be a tightly contested match as the teams went into the half with the Hawks up 13 to 10. Then their defense locked down in the second half and not a peep was heard out of Chicago for the rest of the game. In a rare feat for the NSFL these days, defense was absolutely the name of the game as the Hawks actually held the Chicago Butchers to under 300 total yards of offense. The running game was horrendous as neither Sam Torenson or Aksel Danielsson seemed to be able to make any headway against the Hawks front seven. They combined for 30 carries and only 115 yards, averaging on 3.8 a carry. It was a down day in the ground and pound. What was worse was the 5.8 yards per attempt and two picks from Rose Jenkins as Jenkins only managed 158 yards on 27 passes. Ben Horne and Xandra Troyski were heroes in this one for the Hawks. Horne's seven tackles, two sacks and Troyski's three pass defense, one int day was enough to set the Hawks above as they set the tone in pass disruption. This was a key conference win for the Hawks as the playoffs approach.

31-17, Liberty win. The story in this one was pretty straight forward. It took us eight games, but Marquise Brown finally produced the kind of day that we expect from him. He had 144 combined yards and three touchdowns on route for his best game of the season. Even with Falconi's two interceptions, a heavy dose of Brown and an improving secondary were enough for Philadelphia to make this a fairly one sided game. The Otters defense did their best to lock down Philadelphia's attack and their secondary played out of this world. Nine passes defended and two interceptions as they made it difficult for Falconi all night long. Despite being on the losing end, the MVP of the night was Gus T.T. Showbiz. His six tackles, three pass defenses, and two forced turnovers were one of the most impressive nights we've seen from a secondary player this season. He gave Falconi absolute night terrors as anything that came his way was more likely to be in his hands than the receivers'. Unfortunately for him and the rest of this secondary, when Brown is playing like a top running back, it is nearly impossible to stop this Liberty team. This was a clutch win for a Philadelphia team who is trying to stop their free fall. This team competed for an Ultimus last season and shouldn't be competing at the bottom of the standings. This is their chance to start reversing course. For the Otters, this could be a potentially rough loss. This brings them to 4-4 and drops them to third place in the conference. With Austin hot on their heels, they can't afford to lose too many more games like this.

19-20, Yeti win. This game wasn't even supposed to be close. The Yellowknife Wraiths were widely assumed to be the second best team in the NSFL. The Colorado Yeti were widely assumed to be boxing above their weight class in recent weeks. All of that combined for a highly competitive game in which the Wraiths never once had a lead over Colorado and needed a last second miracle play to come back for a tie and try for overtime. All of which fell short due to a missed extra point, sealing the victory for Colorado. Cooter Bigsby played one of his worst games of the season as he posted a 58.5 quarterback rating, barely completed half of his 60 passes, and turned the ball over twice in route to a game in which he was outplayed by Wolfie McDummy. This was an odd turn of events, but certainly some amusing ones. This Colorado defense was absolutely dominant in this win. Against the run, they racked up five tackles for a loss. They found some pass rush where they forced two sacks, but was pressuring Bigsby all day. Then their secondary put on an absolute show. 15 pass defenses, two interceptions, and a defensive touchdown. That's right, Bigsby threw as many touchdowns to the other team as he did his own. More than that, 15 pass defenses in a single game was absolutely insane. There was a point I thought Bigsby might have jersey colors mixed up as he hit more Yetis than Wraiths. Fortunately for Yellowknife, this game doesn't likely change much for them due to Chicago also losing. For the Yeti though, this is a win they'll talk about for the rest of the season regardless of how it closes out,

6-41, Outlaws win. A week ago, San Jose and MVP candidate Joliet L. Christ were looking like one of the hottest teams in the NSFL. This week? They want to forget this game as quickly as possible and move on. Christ had his worst game of the season as he completed less than 50% of his passes and threw two interceptions in a scoreless campaign that saw him post a 45 quarterback rating. This was about as disastrous as it gets for a quarterback we all though was the most reliable in the NSFL just one week ago. Meanwhile, Andrew Reese looked absolutely dominant. 372 yards, two touchdowns, no turnovers, and a 101 quarterback rating as he led his team to a massive win over a SaberCats roster that looked lifeless in this one. I look at this one and they really had nothing going for them as Arizona simply outclassed them in every possible facet of the game. I still believe the SaberCats are one of the top teams in this league and they should bounce back nicely. Christ is a veteran and he'll put this train wreck of a game behind him. On the other side though, this may be an indication of just how damn good Arizona is as they steamroll their way to playoffs.

33-17, Copperheads win. The Austin Copperheads went on the road to New Orleans and absolutely stomped the Second Line. Easton Cole put up a fairly decent stat line as he completed 67% of his passes for 349 yards and two scores with on a single turnover. He played his part in a game that mostly about Ashley Owens. Owens had his best game of the season as he led the team in both rushing and receiving. 91 yards on the ground, 72 through the air, and two scores on the day was all the evidence that you need to see why New Orleans lost this game. They could do nothing to slow Owens down as he churned out offense for this Austin squad and showed why he was the first overall pick in the S17 draft class. In this game you had the team who didn't win a game last season matching up against a decent Second Line roster who was supposed to improve this season. They didn't. From this point on, there is no way that New Orleans can even be as good as they were, much less better. At this point, they'll be playing the rest of the season for mostly pride as it becomes increasingly unlikely that they make the playoffs. For the Copperheads, this was a key win that put them two games over the Second Line in the playoff race. This team keeps surprising us and if they can just pull out a couple more, they may have gone from winless to playoffs in only a single off season.
