I usually take Wednesday off from writing media as it is a day in between the NSFL games and the big DSFL media I do at the end of the week. Still, I felt like writing this morning and thought I'd do a slightly different media piece.
Dear Rookie Mentors,
If we're being fair, S18 has not been the easiest class in the world to work with. We're wild, we're unpredictable, and some of us are quite depraved. We came into this league like a storm that resembled a Loony Tunes episode and never looked back. We've been off the wall and silly and haven't made your jobs easy at all. Finding questions among the insanity at times likely felt like hunting Easter eggs and yet you guys dove into the deep end for us. I'd like to thank each and every one of you.
@124715 You're the leader of this brave group of helpful masochists. It can be hard to find a group of guys who can put up with the way we act at times in the S18 rookie chat, but you've managed to put together a completely solid group. It all starts at the top with you. In the days after the reddit recruitment, the rookie discord absolutely exploded with activity as waves of us filtered in with questions beyond number. You were there frantically trying to get to each and every one and point people in the right direction. This is the first sim league for most of our class and we were lost, confused, and didn't even know how to start. Without you, I think a lot of us would have quit before ever even coming up with an idea for a character. You put in the work and then never really slacked off. You've stuck with us through this journey and you've assimilated yourself into the S18 culture. You've been patient with us and worked with us and have been a joy to have around. Except that one time. That time you tried to stop the riots and ended up breaking the discord instead. Even then you put in extra time fix something that we admittedly may have brought upon ourselves. That 24 hour chat delay will forever live in my heart as one of my best memories as a rookie. Thank you for being one of our rookie mentors!
@ScorpXCracker Scorp sucks lmao. I joke, obviously. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Scorp was the best rookie mentor that any of us could have asked for. He was there at my create and he answered almost every question I had. He walked me through the process and he is a huge reason why I've had such success in the league. It wasn't just me though as I saw him busting his tail to keep up with every player he could and dig to find answers to some of the crazier and more obscure questions. Scorp was the first of the rookie mentors to really assimilate into the culture of what S18 has become and it made him one of the most approachable guys in rookie chat. Never once have I felt nervous about asking him a question or even making a joke at his expense. He takes everything in stride and he's been huge in getting this rookie class up to speed. I absolutely appreciate the work he's put in here. So thank you for being one of our rookie mentors!
@shadyshoelace Man, where do I even begin with you? You've been absolutely great throughout this rookie season. You haven't had the chance to dive into the banter and the memes of S18 as much as some of the others, but you have always been quick to answer questions. Any time I've seen you around, you've not hesitated to drop any discussion or project you're involved with to make sure we're taken care of. You've been involved with and kind of moderated some of the more serious and dramatic discussions in rookie chat with great poise and you've kept them from getting out of hand. Which is impressive considering some of the personalities in this group. You're one of the biggest true football fans in the rookie discord and its been a pleasure to see you get excited about the games both in the sims and the NFL. Its infectious and really helps some of us get hyped to watch 2-D dots. You've been awesome. Thank you for being one of our rookie mentors!
@TeyonSchavari One of my greatest regrets in this league as a rookie is that you got in on the S18 action so late. You're one of the newer mentors from this last group, but since you've joined you've been on absolute fire. When we questioned your abilities, you immediately dove into the culture of S18 and blew us all away. You've been nothing but helpful, fun, and hilarious in your short stint with us. I'm deeply saddened by the fact that you weren't here from the beginning of the journey, but I look forward to spending the rest of this season with your support. The S19 rookies will be absolutely lucky to have a guy like you around and I appreciate what you've done in your time with us. Thank you for being one of our rookie mentors!
@`woelker11` Oh, man. Woelker. You've been an absolute champion my dude. Even before you had the rookie mentor title, you were one of the most helpful guys in the rookie discord. You were right there amidst all the insanity as we poured in, doing your best to help out when the rookie mentors were overwhelmed. There is an argument to be made that you have been one of the most helpful guys in the entire league for this class. We even invited you early on into the S18 discord to help guide us because you have answered every question we've ever had. Even the questions we didn't have answers for, you dug in and found them for us. And you were doing all of this before you even had a league job and was getting paid for it. The time and effort that you have put into keeping this class pointed in the right direction has been absolutely mind boggling. You encourage us to get stuff done as well. You're a big reason why I got into league media in the first place. Hell, looking at some of your older articles and some of the stuff you said to me in rookie chat may be the only reason I dove into media as hard as I did. You were an inspiration and you've been a joy to be around. I've never hesitated to ask you anything and you've always been willing to go the extra mile for me and other members of S18. Thank you for being one of our rookie mentors!
Honorable mentions: @TomHanks, @Duilio05, and @Bigred1580 You guys have been instrumental in helping this rookie class get on their feet. You guys are only here because you aren't officially rookie mentors. All of you have been absurdly helpful to this class at every chance you could get. The three of you have really earned your places in the hearts of the S18 guys and we appreciate what you've done for the class even if it isn't exactly your jobs. You guys keep doing you because we absolutely love it. Thank you so much for being a force of positivity and help for us when we need it.
With the season about to start coming to a close and S19 rookies beginning to filter in, I thought this would be the best time to give these guys some recognition for what they've done for S18. We're a big class, we're a crazy class, and we're all excited to hit the NSFL hard after the draft. Any success we have in this league is thanks to you guys and all the extra work you've put in for us. A lot of people joke about how rookie mentor isn't a real job, but you guys have repeatedly gone above and beyond for us time and time again. I've seen the time you invest in these draft classes and it is actually insane. We appreciate you all and wish you luck as you get another draft class coming in.
