It's a cold fall day here in State College Pennsylvania as Avon Blocksdale Jr. is doing his final workouts getting prepared to head to the Developmental Simulation Football League. Avon is preparing himself for the waiver process which should follow today as he is ready. He knows he is a raw prospect and doesn't have much of an expectation the first season. I wanted to ask him about S17 expectations.
"I don't care who claims me this first season. I would prefer for it to be a playoff team so I can get some of that experience riding the bench. I know that the first season I won't play, and I won't ask to be played. I don't want to make my team worse by forcing me to play over someone who's better."
When I asked him about s18 his tune changed. "Oh s18 is a totally different story. You gotta play me and I ain't sharing time with no one. I am going to be the best QB in the league one day, so I don't want to share time. If you have a Quarterback who's going to play in s18 DO NOT DRAFT ME. That's that."
Avon is a confident young man, and when you look at his dad it makes sense. His Father is considered the most efficient QB in NSFL history as he is the career leader in passer rating. The Ultimus X MVP Blocksdale Sr. was a beast who played multiple positions. Avon Jr. however doesn't plan on following in his father's foot steps in that regard.
"I'm a quarterback plain and simple. I watched my dad blocking guys on the Line and playing in pass coverage and that's not me. I'm going to be a star throwing the ball. Just you wait."
There are already rumors about where Avon will wind up at the senior level, as it's expected the Liberty are going to be able to get him due to their co General Manager Iam Essellemm. We will see what happens in the minors though.
