Let's be honest. I don't care about the NSFL. I'm an s18 rookie that couldn't name all the team if I had their logos in front of me. I'm gonna make an article talking about all the trades and their impacts on next years draft for all the s18 rookies. Their draft stocks rise and fall with the whims of the NSFL and looking forward regardless of their performance, what the NSFL needs the NSFL gets. Five trades happened in September, in the year of our lord Twenty Thirtytwo. Four were accepted by the head office and another was redacted after damaging tweets it had made in its youth came out.
Liberty receives
Hawks S18 4th
Hawks S18 6th
Hawks receive
RB - Vander Jones
Liberty takes care of Vander Jones salary
This is actually a pretty interesting trade. Hawks get a free running back for the rest of his contract in time for the end-run of the season. Liberty gets to excuse tanking even more and secures a pair of picks to fill in its holes. Liberty doesn't need another running back but is fairly thin at the TE LB DT spots so those positions should move their projections forward for their draft spots. Stars on the LB and DT spots are definitely going to be open but never throw out the possibility of a WR if one drops down for them to snap up.
Hawks receive:
Sunnycursed
S18 OCO 3rd Round Pick
Otters receive:
Yulic Nagasawa
Corey Trevor*
S18 BAL 1st Round Pick
- if Trevor is on Otters' roster after S18 preseason, Hawks receive $2M in S18 cap space
- all cap hits retained by original teams
Hawks doing everything they can do win now. The WR market stays fairly equal in this trade as both teams get starting level wideouts while cory Trevor is a fringe RB that the otters have to take a hard look at as RB is one of the last big pieces that they have to fill before they can take the leap to the top tier of the NSFL. I don't know if the otters still have their own first pick but look to them to aggressively position themselves to pick up marshalls double-headed dragon to expand their offense and diversify their attack. Only 22 points separate them from the top of the points for the table in the NSFL. Expect big Moves in SoCal once the offseason hits.
ARI receives
Beau Montgomery
COL receives
Martavius Mack
ARI S18 3rd Round Pick
ARI S18 5th Round Pick*
* Before this trade, Arizona had the rights to the better of the ARI and YKW S18 5th Round Picks. This trade will revert all rights attached to both picks to Colorado as they will now own them both.
All in all, a rather simple trade that then spirals out of control in a way that would make the NBA proud. AZ gets a CB and Col gets a slightly worse FS. Now I'm not going to stand here and tell you I completely understand the differences between those positions. I can tell you that Colorado is going to need to pick up a CB in the draft if they want to compete next year. An absolute stud O line and a packed offense give way to a defense that needs a new direction and heavy reinforcement. DE DT LB CB all desperately need to be improved but credit to the Yeti their problems are clear and a jackpot draft can lead them from a middle of the road team right to the front of the pack.
YKW receives
Luke Smyles
1M in S18 Cap Space ONLY if they do not make the S17 Ultimus game
Bag of Hot and Spicy Chex Mix
PHI receives
Chad Maololo
S18 YKW 3rd Round Pick
Yellowknife picks up a stud Defensive end. some conditional cap space, and a bag of hot and spicy Chex mix in exchange for sending to Philly a slightly less good defensive end and a third-round pick. This might seem like an almost nothing trade but in reality, it devalues the DE position. Philly has a pair of 80 something Defensive ends overall and they don't need to pick up another one. They will be picking I can assure you something else in the draft in the third round. The defensive ends that I talked to as well also commented that they wanted that bag of hot and spicy Chex mix and wouldn't want to be drafted for a team that didn't value its snack game anyway. Which is a problem as DT is a position of the deep need for this team. If they can get that and their linebacker corps up to speed expect the playoffs to be rolling through the keystone state.
In conclusion, the trades made LB's and DT's a lot more valuable in the draft than before. Expect an RB or two early but get ready for a lot of defensive players getting picked early.
