Welcome back, folks! Hope you haven’t missed me too much. It’s Rampage again, this time doing a deep dive on the two running backs up for the NSFL draft on the San Antonio Marshals: Ruff Ruff and Mathias Hanyadi. I’ll be going in-depth on both running backs, seeing how they stack up against the rest of the talent in the draft, and where I think they are most likely to land come draft day. So without further ado, let us start with the cutest running back the league has ever seen.
Ruff Ruff
Ruff Ruff is one of the top running back prospects in the draft, only behind Marcella Toriki. He has been a top earner, amassing 213 TPE so far and it’s easily possible he could break into the 230 range right after draft day. So already, you have a guy who knows what he’s doing in terms of TPE gain. Shadowz is also a proven commodity in this league. He’s been around for a few years, so not only do you get top tier TPE earnings but a guy who knows the ins-and-outs of the NSFL, which I’d argue is quite valuable. So, we have a veteran of the league AND a top tier TPE earner. That’s rather valuable. So where do I think he’s gonna go? I think there are a few primary destinations for him, and some others that are certainly possible but I believe one of these teams are going to aggressively pursue Ruff
Yellowknife Wraiths
The Wraiths are in trouble at running back. Their young up and comer Morgan Marshall unexpectedly hung up his cleats this offseason. He was supposed to lead Yellowknife to the promise lands after their premier back Jerrod Canton retired. However, the organization is basically in panic mode now. Their young superstar is gone, Jerrod Canton is regressing, they need talent NOW. Fortunately, this is an incredibly deep running back class, and they can easily pick up a few guys in order to fill the holes for now. Now, I do think Yellowknife will pick up Toriki in the first round. She has been an incredible TPE earner, she’s a strong locker room presence, she’s everything you need at the running back position in the NSFL. However, running back by committee is something the sim loves, as shown by the dual-threat attack from Hanyadi and Ruff, for example. So while Toriki has shown to be able to handle the workload of an entire offense before, I do think Yellowknife picks up Ruff in the 2nd round if he’s still there, but there will be plenty of teams gunning for the bestest boy the league has ever seen.
Arizona Outlaws
The Outlaws are VERY old at the running back position. Their youngest running back came into the league during Season 12. All of their backs are due to regress hard very soon, and Arizona will need to fill that hole quickly. Once again, there is a lot of talent to pick up at the running back position. I think that if Toriki goes to Yellowknife in the 1st round, this is most likely where Ruff ends up. Arizona desperately need talent at this position, possibly more than any other position group on their roster. They aren’t going to want Ruff to slip away to some other team early on in the 2nd round of the draft, so I think it’s entirely possible Ruff goes to the Outlaws 8th overall. If he isn’t locked up in the 1st round, he’ll be gone by the time Arizona picks again.
San Jose Sabercats
This choice might be a little bit out there compared to Arizona or Yellowknife but I do have my reasons. First, San Jose has no backup for their current feature guy Ludicolo Bigby. They have two inactives and a guy who might as well be inactive behind him, which is a pretty bad situation considering Bigby doesn’t even crack the 400 TPE mark. So if they give Ruff a season or two behind Bigby, the furry friend could easily eclipse their current starter and be a massive contributor. Or, maybe the signing lights a fire under Bigby and gives him a reason to start training hard, becoming the back San Jose was looking for him to be. Either way, it’s a win for the team, so they’re one of the teams looking to pick up the good boy.
There are a handful of other teams that would love to have Ruff on their roster, but I believe they need to fill holes other than running back first. Philadelphia is one of those teams, but I think they’ll take one of the top defensive players with their first round pick, meaning they have to hope Ruff is there in the second round. Colorado is another one, but once again they need help on the defensive side of the ball. So my belief is that Ruff ends up with Yellowknife, Arizona or San Jose, with a few other teams looking to pick him up if he falls out of the 1st round. Next up, his teammate.
Mathias Hanyadi
Hanyadi is likely the 3rd best running back available in the draft. He hasn’t been an absolute top earner like Toriki or Ruff, but he’s close on their heels with a total of 195 TPE. It is possible he breaks into the 200 range by draft day which will help his stock immensely. Unlike my teammate Ruff, however, I am not a veteran of the sim leagues. I am a true rookie, this is my first time doing anything resembling the NSFL. However, Hanyadi has still been a strong TPE earner despite that. So where do I think he’ll end up? Considering Ruff and Toriki will probably end up being picked ahead of him, here’s what I think.
Yellowknife Wraiths
As I said above, the Wraiths desperately need quality running backs now. In a theoretical world where Toriki is drafted in the first round by Yellowknife, this is where I think Hanyadi will end up. Running back by committee is very effective in this league and Hanyadi-Toriki would be a deadly rushing attack once Jerrod Canton hangs up his cleats. It’s also entirely possible they go with Toriki only, but this is one of Hanyadi’s most likely destinations.
Philadelphia Liberty
Unlike the Wraiths, the Liberty already has a guy they can rely on in the future with Farely Hank. However, Marquise Brown is getting older, being drafted during Season 9 and will soon face heavy regressions in TPE. In a world where Ruff and Toriki get drafted by Arizona and Yellowknife, respectively, I believe this is where Hanyadi ends up. Hanyadi isn’t going to be drafted in the 1st round and New Orleans already has one of the best running backs in the league with Forrest Gump, so this is Hanyadi’s most logical landing zone.
Arizona Outlaws
This is the least likely destination for Hanyadi to end up at, in my eyes. Arizona would love to have Ruff and Hanyadi, obviously. They were the most prolific running back duos in the DSFL, so getting them together once again would be a huge boon for any team. Arizona sits behind several teams that might want to pick up Hanyadi, however. Philadelphia picks second in the 2nd round of the draft and Yellowknife has the pick before Arizona’s in the 2nd round. So already, they’re behind two teams that desperately need new running back talent. It is certainly possible Yellowknife and Philadelphia use their picks on other players and Hanyadi basically falls into Arizona’s lap, but not likely.
So those are just my thoughts on where the dangerous duo of Hanyadi and Ruff might end up at the end of the S18 draft. What do you think? Do you think I’m an idiot? Do you think I should do a 100,000 word draft analysis article just to really make the graders suffer this week? Lemme know, and thanks for reading!
