The NSFL is on the brink of change, with a ton of momentum at its back. Two new teams are coming in season 2, the fight for playoff berths are alive, and an influx of players are waiting to be claimed, if only to get some much desired playing time, ahead of the Season 2 Draft. That's not to mention the waves of new players that will continue to pour in leading up to the next season.
One new player, though, believes he can stand above the crowd and become an immediate difference maker. That man is running back Darlane Farlane.
2-time NCAA rushing leader, Darlane Farlane.
Owner of the single season rushing record, Darlane Farlane.
Face of USC athletics, Darlane Farlane.
Future Hall of Famer, Darlane Farlane.
Of course, these are all statements and milestones he likes to emphasize and keep in our minds. But, he's still a rookie running back needing to prove himself in the league. One who hasn't even set foot on the field yet for an NSFL team. You might be wondering: Who is Darlane Farlane?
Well, he sat down for an interview and gave some insight as to why he thinks he could be the best.
Q: Hi Darlane, the second Prospect game is coming up soon - and it could be argued that you aren't very well-known around the league yet despite your college presence - how do you think the game will impact that?
DF: I think everyone will be talking about me after the prospect game.
Q: Well, I'm sure your USC fans will be watching. Any predictions?
DF: I'ma rush for 100 yards.
Q: That's a pretty big claim for your first game ever in the NSFL. And you'll probably be sharing the backfield.
DF: I'ma rush for 100. No doubt.
Q: You set the NCAA single season rushing record, surpassing legends like Barry Sanders. What does that mean to you? And do you think you'll set any records in the NSFL?
DF: It means that I'm the best to ever do it. Same for the NSFL. If none of these teams pick me up, then I'll be starting day one for one of the new teams, and I'll make the other teams regret it. I'll set records for the franchise, for the league. It ain't no joke. People think talk is talk, but my talk is truth.
Q: You're very confident, that's for sure. Do you have a favorite team in the league right now?
DF: My favorite team is the one who feeds me the ball most. Give me the ball, you're my favorite. Hand me the ball, you're my favorite QB. Block for me, you're my favorite lineman. It's simple.
Q: Interesting. What would you have to say to anyone who doubts you as a true lead back in the NSFL?
DF: I would say they don't know nothin' about football.
Q: Ok. And what's your message to anyone who may be interested in drafting you?
DF: Draft me and you'll have the best RB in the league on your team. Draft me and you'll have a future Hall of Famer. Draft me and you'll win games.
Q: Pretty compelling stuff. We wish you the best and we'll be watching.
There you have it, the first thoughts of prospect Darlane Farlane. Is he a future Hall of Fame running back? While he may think so, we've years and years of football to watch before anyone can claim that.
Farlane's debut in the second prospect game is on Thursday, 6/29/17.
Tune in to see if he can back up all that talk and prove that he has a future in the league as a difference-making halfback.
