Week 10 of the 2019 NFL season is in the books and boy was it a doozy. A lot of upsets and unexpected results this week lead to probably my worst week of the season. This will probably be a very short article compared to most of the others I have done this season. I'll probably be very brief with the actual NFL recap and spend a little more time with the NSFL aspect. I find my enthusiasm for writing is diminished when the Panthers lose and I have limited time to write this article this week.
Chargers over Raiders
The Raiders beat the Chargers on Thursday night in a 2 point game. The Raiders scored with one minute remaining on a Josh Jacobs run to go ahead and seal the win. The Raiders are now 5-4 and host the Bengals this week in what should be another win while the Chargers are now 4-6 and are playing the Chiefs on Monday night in a probable loss.
My comparison has this as Yeti vs Copperheads and if my comp is right the Copperheads won their most recent matchup. Luckily for me the comp was correct in this one. Late in season 18 the Yeti hosted the Copperheads and the Copperheads were able to win 30 to 21. It was a close game in the first half ending in a 14 all tie, but Austin was able to score 10 unanswered points in the third quarter and the Yeti weren’t able to come back from that in the fourth. Let’s see if the comps would have done better than my picks, so I’m 0-1 and the comps are 1-0.
Packers over Panthers
This was a close game with the Panthers down 8 with the ball late in the game the Packers stopped Christian McCaffrey as time expired on about the one inch line. It was so close that it makes me wish there was sensor technology in the ball and on the goalline. The Panthers fall to 5-4 and play the Falcons this week in a game they must win to stay in the wildcard race. The Packers are on bye.
The Wraiths and Second Line played a game in New Orleans in the back half of season 18 that actually ended up being closer that I thought it would be. After the Wraiths took a 14 to 3 first quarter lead the Second Line got back in the game and it was a four point game heading into the fourth quarter, but the Wraiths scored the only points in the fourth quarter and won by 11. Still not as bad as it could have been. The scores are now 1-1 for me and 2-0 for the comps.
Lions over Bears
Matthew Stafford didn’t play in this game, but my picks lock on Thursday, so I was stuck with hoping Jeff Driskel could find a way to win, and while he played decently it wasn’t enough and the Bears won 20 to 13. The Lions fall to 3-5-1 and host the Cowboys this week while the Bears are 4-5 and travel to Los Angeles to face the Rams.
This would be the Second Line against the Yeti and if the comps are right then the Yeti won this matchup. Sure enough the Yeti came to New Orleans in week 4 and ruined our great start to the season by beating us 30 to 20 in a game that saw Stan Francisco throw 5 interceptions. I did lead the team in tackles with 7, so that’s cool, but I still blame the sim for this one. 5 interceptions for a quarterback with basically maxed attributes is ridiculous. I’m now 1-2 and the comps are 3-0.
Ravens over Bengals
Lamar Jackson had an impressive performance and the Bengals remain winless. The 0-9 Bengals travel to Oakland and the Ravens are on bye.
The Hawks and SaberCats face off once every season and I’m really hoping the Hawks won this game. In a shocking result the SaberCats actually beat the Hawks in season 18, which was not what I expected to find. The Hawks had a 10 to 7 lead early in the second quarter, but then didn’t score again until time expired while the SaberCats were able to score 3 times in that span and win pretty easily 28 to 17. I’m now 2-2 and the comps are 3-1.
Bills over Browns
The Browns somehow found a way to win this game as neither team really looked that great. They scored a touchdown with under 2 minutes to go that won them the game. The Bills fall to 6-3 and travel to Miami while the Browns are now 3-6 and host the Steelers on Thursday night this week.
The Second Line and Butchers faced off once in season 18 and I’m pretty sure the Butchers actually won that game, which would of course line up with the comps. In the final week of the season the Second Line and Butchers faced off in Chicago. The score was tied after the half and after the third quarter, but the Butchers were able to score half way through the fourth quarter on a rushing touchdown from Danielsson. I’m now 2-3 and the comps are 4-1.
Chiefs over Titans
In Patrick Mahomes return to action after getting hurt a few weeks ago the Chiefs actually lost to the Titans in a back and forth game that saw many lead changes including the final one with 23 seconds to go that put the Titans ahead. The Chiefs are now 6-4 and play the Chargers on Monday night while the Titans are 5-5 are on bye this week.
The Otters and Butchers played once this season and unsurprisingly the Otters incredible defense didn’t give the Butchers a chance as they won 34 to 6 and didn’t even give up any points until late in the third quarter. This is a loss for both myself and the comps as I’m now 2-4 and the comps are 4-2.
Saints over Falcons
The Falcons played their first good game of the season and played out of their minds to upset the division rival Saints in a game that saw the Saints settle for three field goals and lose 26 to 9. The Falcons are now 2-7 and travel to Charlotte to face the Panthers this week while the Saints are 7-2 and face the Bucs in Tampa.
The Wraiths and Liberty face twice every season, and this season the Wraiths swept the Liberty. In week 4 they won 16 to 7 on the road and in week 11 they won 26 to 12 in Yellowknife. Another double loss has my picks at 2-5 and the comps at 4-3.
Giants over Jets
This one went back and forth with the Jets dominating the first and fourth quarters and the Giants dominating the second and third quarters, but the Jets did just a bit more than the Giants and won 34 to 27 in a game that was played against teams that share the same stadium. The Giants fall to 2-8 and are on bye and the Jets are 2-7 and travel to DC to face the Redskins.
The Butchers and SaberCats faced off once in season 18 and the SaberCats actually won in a close game that saw Chris Orosz score on a 1 yard run with 5 minutes remaining in the fourth to take the lead 24 to 23. My picks fall to 2-6 on the week while the comps improve to 5-3.
Bucs over Cardinals
Oh look, here’s a game I actually picked right somehow. The Bucs won this back and forth game with a Peyton Barber touchdown with less than 2 minutes remaining that put them up 30 to 27. The Bucs are now 3-6 and host the Saints this week while the Cardinals fall to 3-6-1 and face the division rival 49ers.
The Liberty and Copperheads face off once every season and in season 18 they played in Austin in the final game of the season and the Liberty actually won 34 to 24. Austin took a 17 to 13 lead into the half, but the Liberty scored 14 straight points in the third quarter and then sealed the victory with a late rushing touchdown from Sam Torenson. This is a win for both my picks and the comps so I’m now 3-6 while the comps are 6-3.
Colts over Dolphins
The Colts struggled to do anything on offense without quarterback Jacoby Brissett. Brian Hoyer is not cut out to start in the NFL and Fitzmagic strikes again as the Dolphins improved to 2-7 and host the Bills while the Colts fall to 5-4 and host the Jaguars.
The SaberCats and Hawks faced off in week 10 and of course the SaberCats found a way to win that game, which I actually talked about earlier in this piece. I’m still shocked the SaberCats won this game, but I’m also shocked the Dolphins won this game so I guess it works out. My picks fall to 3-7 while the comps improve to 7-3.
Rams over Steelers
The Rams only managed to score 12 points in this game and 9 of them were because of the defense. They had a fumble return for a touchdown at the very beginning of the game and a safety in the fourth quarter. The only points the offense actually produced was a field goal in the third quarter. A very impressive defensive performance for the Steelers as they win 17 to 12. The Steelers are 5-4 and face the Browns on Thursday night while the Rams are also 5-4 and host the
Bears on Sunday night.
The Yeti and Hawks face off twice every season. I haven’t checked, but if one team swept the other that’s easy. If they split instead of just calling it a tie I will only look at the game with the Yeti at home since the Steelers were at home in this one. They did split this season and the Yeti actually won their game at home. The game went to overtime after the Hawks scored with 3 seconds left in the fourth and converted the 2 point conversion to tie the game up, but the Yeti were able to win on a 47 yard field goal from Stephen Harris Jr. I’m now 3-8 on the week while the comp is 8-3.
Vikings over Cowboys
The Vikings beat the Cowboys in this one 28 to 24 and the Cowboys only lead in this game for a brief part of the third quarter when they went up 21 to 20. Dalvin Cook scored a touchdown at the end of the third quarter to go up 28 to 21 and the Cowboys had to settle for a 23 yard field goal in the middle of the fourth that ended up being the final score of the game. The Vikings are now 7-3 and host the Broncos while the Cowboys fall to 5-4 and play the Lions in Detroit.
The Otters and Outlaws split their games this year, but Otters won the game played in Arizona, and that’s the game that matters. The Outlaws came out hot and took a 17 to 0 lead in the middle of the second quarter, but then the Otters defense shutout the Outlaws for the rest of the game and the Otters scored 24 unanswered points. The game was tied in the early part of the fourth quarter on a Franklin Armstrong rushing touchdown and then they won the game with a 23 yard pass with only 21 seconds remaining in the game. I’m now 4-8 and the comps are 9-3.
49ers over Seahawks
The Seahawks gave the 49ers their first loss of the season as they won in overtime 27 to 24 on a field goal as time expired. The Seahawks are now 8-2 and on bye this week while the 49ers are 8-1 and host the Cardinals
The Wraiths and Otters face off once a season and in season 18 that game was in week 8 and it was a very close game that ended with a Wraiths victory 24 to 20 over the Otters. The Otters actually took the lead in the game with less than 10 minutes to go on an Adrian Pitcher receiving touchdown, but 3 minutes later the Wraiths took the lead back with a Morgan Marshall rushing score that put them ahead for the final time. I finish the week 4-9 and the comps were 9-4.
If I had listened to the comps for this week I probably would have won my office pickem pool for this week with how good the comps did in this crazy week of the NFL. I still can’t believe the amount of upsets there were this week. Hopefully we get back to the status quo next week and my picks can get back on track. Here’s my picks for next week.
Steelers over Browns

Cowboys over Lions
Colts over Jaguars
