Following the season nineteen draft we caught up with star wide receiver Sean O'Leary who played the past season for the Portland Pythons as their number two wide receiver. He had a career year and capped off his phenomenal season winning the Ultimini Championship. For those of you that weren't paying attention or happened to miss the season nineteen draft, Sean O'Leary went fourth overall to the Chicago Butchers. Looking at the first round the Chicago Butchers went all on in offense. Targeting two wide receivers with pick number four and pick number six as Sweet James Jones fell to them. Now lets chat with Sean O'Leary and see how he feels about the draft, his new team and what we can expect from him in the future.
Jess: First I just want to say thank you so much for doing this and taking time out of your busy schedule to be here. So Sean, it had to feel great going in the first round. Did you have any clue where you might go or who was interested in your talents?
Sean: Well if I am being honest, I am happy to have my stomach no longer in knots. I put a lot of hard work in to be where I am and I couldn't be happier to be chosen by the Chicago Butchers organization. I honestly had no clue where I would go in the draft. There was rumors that I was a lock for a first round pick, but nothing is a guarantee in this league and GMs can pivot for a teams need last minute. This is my team now and I am going to do everything in my power to help us win.
Jess: I know we here in Chicago are ecstatic to have you playing for our very own Butchers. I do have to admit that I am big fan of yours and remember your time as a Stanford Cardinal and how dominant you were for them. Can we expect that same elite level of play? And what goals do you have for your player this upcoming season?
Sean: Thank you so much for the kind words and following my career to this point. I think to put it simply, I just refuse to be beat or to lay down and take it. I know these corners in the National Simulation Football League are the best in the world and nothing is given out there, only earned. So I am going to bring the best of my game one hundred percent of the time I take the field. Every day I promise to work hard and take my game to the next level. As for goals, I just want to build on my success from last season with the Portland Pythons in the Development Simulation Football League. I have been working hard all off season and expect to pick up right where I left off.
Jess: I know we all here in Chicago have the same question regarding whether you will be playing down next season for the Portland Pythons or can we expect to see you up with the Chicago Butchers? And if you had a choice or say, what would you like?
Sean: *laughs* Yeah well, I mean I think its a bit early for me to be able to know where I will be playing next season. Obviously I am a team player and will be happy with either decision. On one hand I would love to play another season for the Portland Pythons and defend our championship, but then who would say no to jumping right into the best league in the world and showing what I can do. So yeah, I think I am torn and can't really say one way or the other what I would want. Sorry, I know that probably wasn't the answer you and everyone else was expecting. *laughs*
Jess: *laughs* Hey! It was worth a try. You never know, maybe you spill the beans and we get a good inside scoop on what to expect next season. Alright, let's change topics from football for a moment and see what you have planned for the off season. Do you have any hobbies or anything that you enjoy outside training and preparing for a football season?
Sean: I don't think many know this, but I am a huge hockey fan. It's not very common for kids growing up in California to take to hockey. But I love the game. I actually played for quite a bit of my youth, splitting time between football and hockey growing up. Although I haven't laced them up in many years, I still enjoy catching games when I can. Since I am back home for the off season to be with family, I already snagged a few group pack tickets for myself, family and friends. I am really excited for it.
Jess: I never would have guessed a kid from Livermore, California would tell me he played youth hockey after going fourth overall in the Development Simulation Football League. But I can tell you how much Chicago loves its football and hockey. It is a city with lots of sports history and I think you will love it here. Again I just want to thank you for taking the time to do this and best of luck next season, whether that is with us here in Chicago or if you make your way back to Portland.
Sean: Thank you so much for having me and I would love to do this again sometime. *winks*
