When we last sat down with Darlane Farlane, he made some bold claims, such as being a future Hall of Fame running back. Of course, no one had seen him play yet, so that claim was a bit unrealistic. Even still, the claim is unrealistic, but now we've had a chance to see Farlane on the field in two different prospect games. But, he did well enough that teams should take notice and start paying attention to his production if they want a solid rookie running back. In recent news, two new expansion teams have been announced: The Las Vegas Legion and The Philadelphia Liberty. Hopefully these new teams are keeping their eyes out for the exciting new RB so they can fill their top ball carrier role in the upcoming season 2 draft.
In Farlane's first prospect game (Prospect Game 2), he saw more of an RB2 role, getting 8 carries for 33 yards. A decent amount of yardage yielded from eight carries, producing a 4.1 yd average. He also had a couple drops and a penalty, unfortunately. While not a terrible outing, surely not the kind he had been expecting.
In his second game (Prospect Game 3), though, he shined and proved that all of his talk wasn't just fluff. He ran the ball 11 times for 65 yards, an impressive 5.8 average yards per carry. His 65 rushing yards were more than that of both RBs on the opposing team combined. He also added 2 catches for 9 yards, showing a glimpse of his receiving skills.
In total, he has rushed for 98 yards on 19 carries in two games. That's 5.2 yards per carry. Pretty impressive stuff for a brand new RB. As the season progresses, we'll get to see more of Farlane's play in the Prospect Games. We got another chance to speak with him about his first two games and how he envisions the Season 2 Draft.
Q: You've done pretty well over your first two prospect games, how do you feel about your production?
DF: I'm a little disappointed.
Q: Disappointed?
DF: Yeah, I usually aim to rush for 100 yards per game, and I failed to meet that mark in both.
Q: Well, you're splitting carries with another back, and your total numbers are still impressive.
DF: I appreciate it. But it needs to be better.
Q: If anything, you should be happy with your yards per carry.
DF: It was average.
Q: Ok. The season 2 draft is quickly approaching, where do you think you'll come off the board in comparison to the other rookie running backs?
DF: I think I should be first off the board, but part of me also wants to go after all the others, just so I can have a chip on my shoulder and get revenge on every team that passed me up.
Q: So you'd rather go later?
DF: I don't know, it might be fun that way.
Q: Did you hear about the new expansion teams?
DF: I did. Philly and Vegas are great spots. I think either of them would be great landing spots for me. Hoping they are watching what I do leading up to the draft.
Q: I'm sure they'll be taking notice.
We wrapped it up with the not-so-talkative Farlane and wished him luck. He's proving to be an exciting prospect, but two games isn't quite enough to promise his future at the position. It'll be interesting to see how the next few weeks pan out for him. If he keeps up this kind of production, he'll be a starting back in no time.
