Corner Back

1.) I'm not a football guy. I never played, I don't watch it often (Brett Coleman is lit tho), I probably never will. My opinions are probably gonna be a little shit. Because of that if you bitch at me for being stupid in here I'm not going to care.
2.) This isn't actually a new engine, it's just my idea for what I would want.
Corner Back[/div]
Corner back is where we really start to see some differences in importance of attributes. Corner backs do need to be able to tackle the players they're covering, absolutely. However the importance of different attributes will change based on the type of corner back that is being created. Are you a corner back that is all about zone coverage or a man on man type of guy? Do you have the chops to stick with a receiver that's sprinting at full speed down the edge of the field?
Strength - The player's raw strength
Endurance - The player's ability to continue to be effective during long drives
Quickness - The player's ability to change their style of attack quickly
Scheme Recognition - The player's ability to correctly identify they play that the offense is going to run and to decide how to attack the player that will receive the ball off the snap or after the snap
Acceleration - The player's ability to quickly reach their top speed
Speed - The player's top speed
Catching - The player's ability to catch (or deflect) a contested ball
Man on Man Coverage - The player's ability to stick with a player when playing man on man coverage
Zone Coverage - The player's ability to react to an offensive play when playing zone coverage
Tackling - The player's ability to bring a player with the ball down or move a player blocking them out of their way
Technique - The player's footwork and ability to put themselves in the best position to get through or around the opposing blocker, generally their ability to form the correct plan for the start of a play in this context
1.) First off, you need to make a choice here and it's between whether you want to be a Zone Coverage corner back or a Man on Man Coverage corner back. There are benefits and negatives to each one, and they both require different attributes. A man on man corner back will need Man on Man Coverage (obviously) to help them keep from having their coverage broken by the receiver they're covering, but they'll also need Acceleration to allow them to build up their speed and Speed to help them match the speed of the receiver they're on. If can stick with the receiver and not get beat by the receiver's positioning or ability to break their coverage the corner back has essentially made the receiver a non option or even a prime target for an interception. This can effectively take away options from the quarter back but it allows the quarter back to throw more screen passes and execute more running plays so you're going to rely on your defensive line and line backers a lot more as a man on man corner back, but you're going to prevent a lot of big yard plays this way. Of course to tie up the Man on Man Coverage corner back with a bow you're going to need Catching to allow your corner back to either intercept the ball or deflect it away from the receiver.
2.) On the other hand we have Zone Coverage corner backs who are going to need a different set of attributes. Again they'll obviously need Zone Coverage high to help them best position themselves in their zone to deflect the ball, Scheme Recognition and Catching will be huge to maximize these players because they can predict the routes players going toward their zone will be running and this will give them the ability to predict where the ball will be thrown within their zone. Just like that they can deflect a pass or cause an interception just by using their heads. However these corner backs will be exposed by receivers that can recognize the defensive scheme the backfield is in and find the holes in their zones, meaning you're going to need Tackling and Strength to bring down receivers that get into these holds before they gain extra yards. The positive here is that extra yards shouldn't be too numerous because if one person gets beat there are generally two or three other players already pouncing on the receiver before they get too much farther, as opposed to man to man coverage where if you get beat the player is either one on one with the safety or they're gone for a touchdown.
3.) All corner backs will need Tackling, Strength and Technique to maximize their ability to reduce yards after contact. Players are going to catch passes and if you can't prevent that then you at least need to be able to take down the player quickly before they can gain extra yards or go far for a touchdown.
[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Some Extra Notes[/div]
The corner back is the the real back bone of the backfield. Sure a safety can offer extra security, but the corner backs are going to be the ones primarily covering the receivers and preventing huge gains.
Some people believe that corner back is the most difficult position in all of sports, and if you give it some thought you might think that doesn't sound so crazy. You're both actively moving and need to react to the play as it develops, you're going against some of the fastest players in football when it comes foot speed but you also need to be able to coordinate yourself well enough to defend or intercept passes. You have to do all of this while anticipating where the quarter back is going to throw the ball. And even if they've done all of this to the best of their ability the recevier could still end up with the ball forcing them to continue running to try and make the tackle before the receiver can make it to the end zone. Now show me another player that has that much responsibility on a football field.
