In the following article I will try to provide facts and statistics about the draft prospects on offens for the NSFL draft. As I am quite new to the league I will not factor user activity into my rankings. Unfortunately I couldn’t measure the players on the O-Line, please don’t be disappointed, you know we love you!
I don’t want to make a ranking solely dependent on the TPE of each and every player. As not only the technical stats are important I also took a look at how they performed in the last season. The season statistics will also influence the outcome of my ranking. I will try to explain that later. First let’s take a look at the position of the quarterback.
Quarterbacks
The notable quarterback prospects eligible for the Draft are as followed:
Colby Jack – London Royals – 245 TPE
Despite being the Quarterback with the most TPE earned in this years draft Colby Jack could not quite meet the expectations. His team went 5-9 in season 21 of the DSFL coming in last of the NFC North. The bad performance in the season also shows in the individual stats. He attempted the second to most throws over the season with 343 attempts but had only 1661 yards to show for. That equals to 4,8 yards per attempt which is not what you would call great. Add to the fact that the best two wide receivers Susan Cash Jr. and Nick Kaepercolin are above average to good receivers his season can only be described as subpar. Also looking at his completion percentage is quite a letdown as he only completed 49 percent of his passes. There Colby Jack ranks second to last among all qualified quarterbacks (50 attempts or more). Despite throwing for 12 TDs, where he had the best record in the league tied with Monterey Jack and Luke Skywalker, he also threw 10 picks. His season was a real disappointment, but let’s see what the future holds for Colby Jack, right now it can only go up, stat wise he should have the potential to be quarterback worthy of the NSFL.
Monterey “Monty” Jack – Dallas Birddogs – 229 TPE
The quarterback with the second most TPE in this years draft also failed to play up to standard in the last season. His Dallas Birddogs also performed quite poorly and finished last in the SFC with a 5-9 record. The fact that the best two quarterbacks in respect to TPE in the league led their both teams to the last spot in their respective conferences is surely remarkable and unusual. But let’s continue with Monterey “Monty” Jack’s individual season stats. With 303 attempts he ranked a bit above average in attempts. His 1553 yards he has thrown for show that as well. Is average yards per attempt are slightly better than Colby Jack’s with 5,1 but also not considered to be great. Considering that he has one of the best wide receivers of the league with William Lim on his roster he definitely could have performed a bit better. At completion percentage at only 48,8 percent ranked worst in the whole DSFL among qualified quarterbacks. Completing the season with 12 Touchdowns and 9 Interceptions he at least had a positive TD-Int ratio. Monterey Monty Jacks season can also only be described as lacking. Despite a difficult performance last year also Monterey Monty Jack showed absolute potential to be a solid quarterback in the NSFL.
Jim Waters – Tijuana Luchadores – 207 TPE
The Tijuana Luchadores were in the hunt for a playoff spot for the whole season, but fell short one win of making it to the post season. At the Tijuana Luchadores Jim waters shared snaps with Ben Slothlisberger. He threw for 1028 yards with 213 attempts which sets him right in the middle of yards per attempt at 4,8. Despite having significantly less TPE as his rivals he ha a slightly better completion percentage than his rivals at the Birddogs and Royals with 49,3%. His 8 picks on the contrary are too much for him scoring 5 TDs. Jim Waters has shown real potential and despite not getting the workload other quarterbacks in the league were getting, he still put on decent performances.
Ben Slothlisberger – Tijuana Luchadores – 203 TPE
The second Quarterback that started regularly for the Tijuana Luchadores, Ben Slothlisberger, has shown really good performances in the season 21 of the DSFL. With only 13 attempts more than his in-house rival Jim Waters he still was able to throw for nearly 200 more yards. His stats show, that he has the edge over Waters. He posted better performances in every statistic. His 53,1 completion percentage ranks right around league average though it seems a bit low as the Luchadores have to really good receivers with Thomas Passmann and Jordan McCann III. He definitely has to work on his accuracy, but has shown that the task of leading a team is not to big for him. Posting 4 touchdowns and also 4 interceptions he was not the most productive quarterback in the league but he also took good care of the ball. If he gets a bit more accurate and keeps taking care of the football Ben Slothlisberger sure would be an asset to any team he lands at.
Luke Skywalker – Norfolk Seawolves – 193 TPE
This guy here has shown great performances in this years season. He led his team into the playoffs finishing the regular season 8-6. In the playoffs the Seawolves lost to Myrtle Beach not scoring a single point. Despite the horrible performance in the playoff this shall not discredit his decent regular season performance. At 268 attempts he Luke Skywalker threw for 1364 yards which results in a respectable 5,1 yards per attempt. His stats are surely affected by his stud receivers Reynaud Haugland and James Lewandowski who have shown to be right around the top of the league. Luke Skywalkers achived the second best completion percentage of all qualifying quarterbacks in the DSFL. With that accuracy still at that early stage of his career he can grow into an absolute top quarterback. He proved to be a danger for every team scoring 12 TDs but has to work on his turnovers which were a bit high as he also threw 7 interceptions.
1. The best season of these quarterbacks has posted in my mind Luke Skywalker. Although trailing the top quarterbacks when looking at TPE earned he posted absolutely remarkable numbers. It was quite obvious that he had decent help on the offensive side of the ball. His tight ends and Haugland and Lewandowski are star players in the DSFL but nonetheless he at first had to get the ball to them, which he managed to do efficient. He outshined Colby Jack and Monterey Jack with less errors and took his team to the playoffs. He has deserved to be at the top of my ranking.
2. Second in my ranking I put Monterey “Monty” Jack. With over 1500 yards in the regular season he has shown to be a true leader of the offense. Posting a league high 12 touchdowns he was a key piece to his offense. Though he has high TPE to show for his team fell short of the expectations. To be fair, this was the first season of the Dallas Birddogs, this should not be an excuse for him but it also has to be considered. If he keeps working on his TPE and is given enough time to develop Monterey “Monty” Jack can get very far in his career.
3. Right behind him I rank Colby Jack. Though his team performed subpar, posting 12 interceptions he should have the potential to bounce back from a very disappointing season. He shows absolute will to improve, so his lackluster season should not be a reason no to pick him in the upcoming draft. His lack of output this season could be founded on coaching, or the need to push the ball downfield due to be trailing in many games. This can also be a reason for his 12 interceptions. He definitely has to take more care of the ball and take a hit or throw the ball away here and there.
4. Ben Slothlisberger takes the fourth place in the ranking. He showed composure and proved that no moment in the game was too high for him. His accuracy at throwing the ball will soon take him up in the ranks of any team. He could take a little more risk here and there and try to push the ball downfield a little bit more. With the right coaching and good personal at the skill positions around him he can be a dependable quarterback for any team.
5. Although Jim Waters takes the fifth place in this list this should not mean that he has no potential to be a NSFL starting quarterback. He still has to work a bit at his accuracy and to reduce mistakes in his game. Despite sharing snaps with his team mate Ben Slothlisberger he managed to acquire than 1000 thrown yards. He has all the things a quarterback needs.
Running Backs
With the quarterbacks done I now want to take a look at the most prolific Running Backs of the DSFL. Like before I will also compare the seasons and take the TPE into account and create a ranking. As I did not have the time to go over each RB I only too the first 7 running backs into account as they set themselves apart from the league TPE wise.
1. White Goodman – Dallas Birddogs – 246 TPE
White Goodman is a really exceptional Running Back, His stats might not compare to other running backs in the league but the main reason is that he is not the number 1 back in the league. A lot of the snaps on offense go to his teammate Kichwa Jones. He failed to achieve a 1000 yard season falling just short of this milestone with 914 yards. With 4,6 yards per rush he can’t keep up with the best backs in the league but is nonetheless quite decent. With 5 touchdowns on the season he also does not rank among the top Running Backs in this area. Allthough his production couldn’t keep up with other backs in the league when taking into account the TPE gap to the RB with the second most he clearly is in the lead to go into the draft as the best at his position.
2. Acura Skyline – London Royals – 219 TPE
Acura Skyline has delivered a really unforgettable individual performance. While he was leading the league in touches (349) more than 20 touches more than the next best, he also was able to accumulate the most yards in the league. His 1761 yards are far ahead the most of all rushing yards by any player. With 5 yards per rushing attempt he also performed excellent in this category. Unforgettable was his 87 yard rush. To cap off he delivered 10 Touchdowns. I would like to rank him as the top Running Back of the draft following such an impressive season, but as the gap for TPE is to big in comparison to White Goodman, I have to put Acura Skyline just right behind White.
3. Tatsu Nakamura – Portland Pythons – 212 TPE
Tatsu Nakamura put together a good season with 1256 rushing yards. His constant performance over the course of the season put the Pythons into the playoffs where they lost against an excellent Kansas City Team. He could have accumulated more yards and TDs but as he was sharing play time with his fellow running back Richard Gilbert, it is even more astounding that he managed to get into the endzone 10 times. With his ability to make the most out of his touches he ranks third in my ranking
4. Kichwa Jones – Dallas Birddogs – 219 TPE
Jones is the second Running Back at the Birddogs. I put him at number 4 because Nakamura simply made more out of his chances. He puts up similar stats as White Goodman. He also gained over 900 yards in season 21. As we can’t solely look at the absolute stats due to the load sharing at the Birddogs I see his 4,5 yards per rush. It is quite low, but don’t let that lead you to false thoughts. There can be other reasons for that. For example an offensive line that is not able to dominate the line of scrimmage. 6 Touchdowns may also not be very impressive, but we also have to take into account that the team as a whole wasn’t able to score very well on offense. Kichwa Jones is ready to play right from the start and is an asset to every team.
5. Richard Gilbert – Tijuana Luchadores – 193 TPE
Richard Gilbert played the last season for the luchadores. He wasn’t considered as the number one running back as is shown by his 198 touches. He fell just short of completing a season of 1000 rushing yards with 978 yards. With 4,9 yards per rush he ranks right average around the DSFL. Although his workload was a little less than other running backs, he reached the endzone 10 times. I leave it up to your imagination what Gilbert would be capable of doing if he is featured in a team as the number 1 RB. He has shown his speed time after time, as he racked up decent numbers last season placing fifth among the players of his position.
6. Jamar Lackson – Minnesota Grey Ducks 192 TPE
This guy has also shown great potential. He was also sharing snaps on the Grey Ducks with his team mate Baby Yoda. At 194 attempts Jamar Lackson ran for 931 yards, gaining 4,8 yards per rush. Though he had slightly less touches than Yoda, he posted a better average. His has yet to show, that he has the potential to make big runs, as he could be stopped by the defense very soon. His longest rush in season 21 was a 17 yard run. So in this category I can see room for improvement. If he keeps working on his speed though, I am sure he will also get big yardage here and there. In terms of touchdowns (5) he fell a bit short compared to the rest of the league, but he is a reliable ball carrier which is why I put him at number 6.
7. Julio Tirtawidjadja – Tijuana Luchadores – 185 TPE
Julio Tirtawidjadja – I hope I wrote his name correctly – was the third rusher on the Tijuana Luchadores. He got snaps in every game of the season, but only getting 13 touches over the course of 14 games shows little confidence of his team to hand him the ball. It seems a bit odd, that he got as little chances, when considering what he was able to get out of his rushing attempts. He posted a 5,4 yards per rush average, which ranks among the best in the league. Well, of course this does not say a lot when he only had 13 rushes but nonetheless he also took his chances there and scored 2 TDs. Julio’s season was a bit disappointing, as he simply didn’t get many chances to show his ability, but if he gets a chance by a team and the trust of the coaching staff he can be a good RB.
Wide Receivers
With quarterbacks and runningbacks done I want to focus on Wide Receivers now. The receivers in this years draft. No receiver managed to go past the 1000 yards mark this season, though there are a few absolute top players among the draft this year.
1. Eddie Jeeta – Kansas City Coyotes – 215 TPE
Among all Wide Receivers in the league Eddie Jeeta seems to be the best pick of this years draft. 59 catches for 769 yards this year do the talking. He was the go to guy in the passing attack of the KC offense. With his help the Coyotes manage to get to the Ultimini, where they lost against Myrtle Beach. This guy lives up to his name as he ranks among the fastest players in the DSFL. His 5 touchdowns may only rank slightly above average but overall whoever gets to draft Eddie Jeeta will not be disappointed.
2. William Lim – Dallas Birddogs – 216 TPE
William Lim has the most TPE of all WR to show for. His numbers this season are a bit behind his actual abilities on the field, but as he is playing a dependent position there are reasons for a lack o production. He places fourth in receiving yards among eligible receivers with 46 catches for 595 yards on the season. Additionally he has only managed to score one Touchdown. Looking at the overall lackluster season of the Dallas Birddogs especially on the offensive side of the ball there obviously are reasons behind his performance, that don’t necessary are on him to blame. Despite all of this I put William Lim at the second place in the ranking, because Eddie Jeeta simply had a better season in every measurable way.
3. Michael Witheblock – Kansas City Coyotes – 214 TPE
It must have been fun playing quarterback for the Coyotes the last season, as they had not only one but two receivers with game breaking abilities. Michael Witheblock has decent stats TPE wise. His stats on the season came out a bit underwhelming at first but was very much improved over the course of the 14 weeks. With 31 caught passes for 392 yards and 4 Touchdowns he ranks around average but his 214 TPE make him a high quality Wide Receiver in the upcoming draft.
4. Thomas Passmann – Tijuana Luchadores – 200 TPE
It was hard for me to decide between Thomas Passmann and Michael Witheblock on who I should rank at number 3, but I had to put Thomas Passmann at four, as he has a significant amount less TPE than his rival. He put out outstanding numbers accumulating the most catches of all WR prospects. He went for 831 receiving yards on 64 catches and 3 TDs. He proved to be a real difference maker on the field. He has to work on his red zone performance, but otherwise he should be able to make an immediate impact on any team.
5. Susan Cash Jr. – London Royals – 194 TPE
Susan Cash Jr. also performed on a high level, someone would say, that she overachieved a bit compared to the other receivers with higher TPE. But with 52 receptions for 652 yards and 2 Touchdowns no one could deny, what strong of an effort Susan brought to the field. She has to work a bit on her speed, as this is a bit of a weak spot of her at the moment, but if she can rack this up a bit, she has the potential to grow into a deadly weapon on offense. With a bit of a lack at speed, I put Susan Cash Jr. on number 5 in the ranking of Wide receivers.
Tight Ends
The last position I am looking at in this article are Tight Ends. As I can’t measure their blocking abilities, I have to depend on the TPE stats in that category. There are many different ways to build a player who plays as a Tight End as this position needs to be very versatile. The teams success heavily depends on catching abilities as well as blocking figures.
1. Jeffrey Phillips – Dallas Birddogs – 247 TPE
The qualities of Jeffrey Phillips are quite easy to depict. He is a pass catching Tight End type of player and he showed that last season with 37 catches for 424 yards and 6 Touchdowns. While his numbers in the passing game are really impressive, he definitely has to work a bit on his run and pass blocking abilities. Right now he hasn’t invested very much to improve his abilities in this area. The lack of versatility lowers the impression a bit, but with performances like in the last season in the passing game I am willing to bend the rules a bit. He deserves to be named the top Tight End for the draft.
2. Heath Evans – Myrtle Beach Buccaneers – 212 TPE
His statistics are quite close to Jeffrey Phillips. He also recorded outstanding stats in the passing attack. With 37 caught balls for 491 yards he even showed more production as his rival from the Dallas Birddogs. A slight drop off can be seen in the amount of Touchdowns they were able to score. Evans only saw the endzone twice last season. His blocking abilities although are considerably better than Phillips’, he should be able to contribute also in that phases of the game. Statwise I maybe should give the first spot in the ranking to Heath Evans but Jeffrey Phillips has loads of TPE more to show for, so Evans lands at the second place.
3. Daniel George – Portland Pythons – 182 TPE
Daniel George seems to be a traditional Tight End. He turns his focus to help the team blocking the opponent and setting up lanes for the running game. And he is a true force in that category, recording league high stats. Production wise he left a bit of a gap to Evans or Phillips but that is understandable as his qualities lie elsewhere. With 30 receptions for 299 yards and no Touchdowns he is behind his rivals a bit. But If he keeps improving his abilities in the passing game, he should be a true force on any offense. I place him at third, because his stats were down a bit, but as I already stated, his qualities truly lie in blocking opposing players and to help his team mates running the ball or protecting his quarterback.
4. Donatello Arrabiata – London Royals – 154 TPE
Donatelle Arrabiatas is a very well-adjusted Tight End. He does nothing bad, but he also doesn’t excel at any manner. He can be inserted for any type of play you want to run, he blocks, he catches. He can fill any gap on the formation. He had 32 catches for 260 yards on the season with 1 Touchdown. His average yards per catch are a bit on the low side but is ideal for throwing checkdowns as he has the ability to win any battle against Cornerbacks or Linebackers. Picking him you get a good, solid Tight End who still has a bit of work to do on his abilities. He takes the fourth place.
5. James Angler – Myrtle Beach Buccaneers – 172 TPE
James Angler is the last Tight End I am going to analyze. He has all the pedigree he needs to be a decent pass catcher but didn’t get the opportunity to do so very often. He recorded 20 catches for 122 yards and 1 TD. His mighty body of work can be a real force on any offense but he is lacking in the ability to use it the right way. With a bit of work on his speed and blocking skills though he should be able to overcome this weaknesses and I am sure that he will also produce for any offense. As his stats are a bit on the low side and he is not really well balanced in his abilities at this point I place him fifth among Tight Ends.
This will cap of my analysis of the prospects on offense. Please take notice, that I did not take into account if a player is eligible or not. I hope I didn’t offend anyone here, if that would be the case, feel free to contact me.
I don’t want to make a ranking solely dependent on the TPE of each and every player. As not only the technical stats are important I also took a look at how they performed in the last season. The season statistics will also influence the outcome of my ranking. I will try to explain that later. First let’s take a look at the position of the quarterback.
