Hello ladies and gentlemen of the jur- wait, sorry, force of habit. Hey everyone, hope you’re all having a good weekend so far. It’s one of the best times of the season: 1.5x payout week! In celebration, I figured I might as well pump out an interview or two over the weekend to take advantage of it. Today we’re going to be interviewing one of the promising Minnesota rookies. The Minnesota Grey Ducks have an amazing crop of rookies that they are sending to the NSFL draft in just a couple of short weeks or so. Philip “Phiip” Stein is the guest of honor today. A max earning (or at least very close to max earning) kicker and punter with the team, he’s been a force to be reckoned with on the special teams unit. He came in and right away took over the starting gig at both positions, and hasn’t disappointed in the slightest. He’s notched two game balls this season that are awarded by our general managers, Dewalt and CLG Rampage. He also tied the DSFL record for longest field goal at 57 yards. Okay, let’s get into these questions to learn a bit more about Philip “The Leg” Stein.
Question: Before the DSFL draft, which DSFL team were you wanting to land with? Did you end up being happy with where you arrived?
Answer: I joined right before the season so I didn’t get drafted. Minnesota picked me up and I couldn’t be happier. Minnesota is the best locker room in all of the sim leagues that I’m a part of. I love it and I’m staying in touch with those guys even when I get called up.
I feel that, 100 percent. I’m starting to get a little sad since the end of the season is in sight. It’s going to be a sad day when we get booted from Quack Chat. The season isn’t over yet, though. We still have a lot of work to do. One game at a time. We’ll deal with the sad feelings once our job is over.
Question: Are there any specific NSFL teams that you’d like to land with in the NSFL draft?
Answer: For me, there are two things that are important in where I get drafted. The first is the locker room. If I’m not having fun then it doesn’t matter how well I do. That’s why I’m not going to Arizona. The second thing is how much a team believes in me. I want to be drafted by a team that believes I can be a starter. If you believe in me then I will believe in you and give you everything I have.
I understand that you don’t want to play for Arizona because of a certain personality that their team has. I don’t blame you at all - if you don’t think you will enjoy your time with a specific team, then you shouldn’t be forced to play with them. I don’t think anybody will have a problem with you making a personal choice not to play there. I think that every team in the league has something different to offer, locker room wise. Hopefully you land with a team that will help you grow as a player, and help you to have fun.
Question: What is your best sales pitch that you can give to any general managers that may be reading this? What's the best thing that you're going to bring to the table for your NSFL team?
Answer: I know that I’m a kicker and punter and I’m only at 196 TPE. Those would probably be the two biggest concerns that a team would have when drafting me. To address the first one, I’m willing to switch to LB 100 percent. Any other change would have to be a case by case basis decision. To address the second concern, I joined late, but I’ve maxed so far and have no intention of that changing. I plan on getting a league job and doing graphics so my bank account won’t be a problem.
I’m glad you addressed those things, but I’m not sure if either of those things are concerns that any good general manager would have. If you want to be a kicker and punter, that’s your choice. A job will open up for you soon enough with how good of a member you are. And as you said, you’re a max earner, so I don’t think any general manager is questioning you in that area. A good general manager will check your TPE per day, and see that you’re a great earner. And your bank account speaks for itself, with 10.5 million dollars, and I believe you bought tier 6 equipment this season as well? You absolutely pump out the graphics, my man, and you’re always looking for ways to make a quick buck.
Question: Do you think you have a shot at any of the end of season DSFL awards?
Answer: I don’t think I’ll win either award, but I have a better chance at winning Punter of the Year than Kicker of the Year.
Well sometimes surprises and upsets can happen, so we’ll just have to wait and see how it plays out. Who knows, maybe we’ll end up seeing Philip “My Name Isn’t Phillip” Stein pop up on the screen when we’re watching the awards show. I’m not going to completely count you out of it.
Question: If you could be sponsored by any cereal brand, which one would you choose? Why?
Answer: Cocoa Pebbles because I eat it more than any other cereal. It’s easily my favorite.
Simple, straightforward answer. I’m more of a Frosted Flakes guy. I think Tony the Tiger and I could put on a hell of a show together. Hit me up, Kellogg.
Question: What’s the difference between a rag, a wash cloth, and a hand towel?
Answer: A rag is used for tasks like cleaning the engine of a car. A wash cloth is used to wash your face. A Face Towel (not to be confused with a Hand Towel) is used to dry your face after you use the wash cloth. A Hand Towel is used to dry your hands after you wash them.
I see, I see. I think we have pretty similar views on this one. I think that the wash cloth is a bit more versatile than you give it credit for, but we’re pretty close on this one.
Question: Is there anything that you’d like the league to know about you?
Answer: I’m in this league to max and be active. I don’t half ass things. I’m doing this and I’m going to do it 100 percent.
I love the confidence here. Philp “No L’s” Stein isn’t here to mosey around. He’s here to punch you in the mouth, and to punch the football through the uprights, with his foot.
Question: If you were asked to stay in the DSFL for another season, would you be okay with that, or would you like to go straight to the big leagues right away?
Answer: I would definitely be ok with staying in the DSFL for another season. I'd even be ok staying in the DSFL for 2 more seasons. A lot of people have a problem with staying down because their focus is on their stats. If I have my best game ever but we lose then how I played doesn't matter. If I have my worst game ever but we won then how I played doesn't matter. What matters is how the team does. If me staying down is better for the team then I'd be happy to stay down. My philosophy is "Win as a team, Lose as a team." Anyone who puts themselves first cough Antonio Brown cough, doesn't belong in a locker room regardless of how good they are. Team chemistry is an underrated aspect of any sport but especially football. If I can accomplish one thing in my time in the NSFL it will be to shift the focus of players from themselves to the team. A team with average players who play well together will beat a team of selfish superstars.
I have the same philosophy in sports as you do, it seems. Unfortunately, the last line doesn’t necessarily hold true in a simulation, but I would still much rather play with a team of average players who are unselfish, and good people. Who cares if you win the Ultimus 3 times but hate your teammates? I’m here to have fun, and I’m going to have fun if I’m playing with people I like. Fortunately for us, it seems that a lot of people in this league are nice, and at least mostly unselfish. I think that you’re going to have a great impact on this league, and as such a great earner, maybe we’ll also see Philip “I Have 2 Game Balls” Stein’s jersey in the Hall of Fame one day.
There you have it, ladies and gentleman. It has been a pleasure doing this interview with you, Philip “Nobody Gets My References” Stein. I can’t wait to see where you end up on draft day. I wouldn’t be upset in the slightest if it ended up being in Chicago with me and the boys. But before we get there, I believe we still have some unfinished business to attend to in Minnesota. Go Grey Ducks!
Please split this 50/50 between me (TheCC/Tyron Shields) and Philip (IHateBobNutting/Philip Stein). Thank you!
