Here is a breakdown of the NSFL and DSFL pro bowl rosters by position
NSFL
QB: 4
RB: 8
WR: 8
TE: 4
OL: 5
DT: 2
DE: 6
LB: 6
CB: 6
S: 7
K/P: 4
DSFL
QB: 4
RB: 8
WR 6
TE: 4
OL: 5
DT: 1
DE: 7
LB: 7
CB: 6
S: 6
K/P: 5
Notice anything? Between the 2 leagues only 3 true DTs made the pro bowl. This is incredibly frustrating as someone who has created as a DT. One of the biggest reasons for low retention of certain positions is lack of recognition. If we want DTs to stay around and stay active we need to separate them from DE and evaluate them as a separate entity. If this is too much to ask of the pro bowl voters than we need to find new ones.
DTs don't get the sexy stats most the time. We do the dirty work in the trenches that is often overlooked, we can get a decent amount of sacks but that is really only true at the NSFL level. In the DSFL, as a DT you mainly rack up tackles as most teams do not pass much.
For all my DT brethren out there we must demand a change to next years voting. Adding DT of the year was a step in the right direction, but the same logic should apply to the pro bowl at both the DSFL and NSFL level.
I have put a fair amount of time and effort into this league and my player. This is the sort of thing that really takes the wind out of my sails. I am strongly considering boycotting next season until a change is made. I'm that salty
