So Ty how's it going my man? I miss seeing you everyday in Minnesota and putting that work in the CB lab. I hope Chicago is treating you well. Anyways how's your holiday going?
Life's good for the most part these days! Turns out, Chicago actually isn’t all that bad! Haha. Not gonna lie though, I actually can't take part in the Independence Day festivities this year because I've been quarantined until the results of the COVID-19 test come back sometime this coming week. It's not all bad though, I've just been hanging out with the girl, walking the dogs, watching fireworks from the porch, and playing some video games. You know, the usual. So I wouldn't say that it's been a bad holiday at all, it's just been a little bit different than most of the Independence Days so far in my life time!
We've had a interesting season to say the least in San Jose. How do you feel the season for Chicago has come along so far? Meeting expectations? What can you guys improve on for the stretch run of these last games?
From the outside looking in, it might look kind of like a dumpster fire. But that's only if you haven't been paying attention close enough. The season has gone pretty much exactly how we expected it to go so far. We are a very young team, with our oldest player being the beast Sean O'Leary from S18, I believe. Most of us are S21, S22, and S23, I think. Lots of us are rookies, and we have some very promising max earning talent waiting in the wings of the DSFL. So we're still growing together. We didn't expect to be fighting for a playoff spot yet. We just wanted to see steady growth and improvement over last season, and try to put ourselves in to a position to potentially make some noise next season. I think we've accomplished our goal of improving so far! All we have to do to improve on the last stretch of games is just keep earning. I've got a max earner club running in the LR with more people on the list than I expected (which is a good thing, it's awesome), so that will help us stay on track. We can already see that our games are closer than they were at the beginning of the season. There's a stark contrast between losing by 50 to the Yellowknife Wraiths at the beginning of the season, and then putting up a solid fight against the Orange County Otters last week. We're on track.
I'm at FS this year until a call up comes up next season. Overall it's been a adjustment. The jump from the DSFL to NSFL has been interesting. I can really say much since I'm not at CB. How has the jump been for you? Anything that sticks out to being easier? Harder?
Everything moves faster in the NSFL. The games fly by faster, the quarterbacks throw the ball faster, the wide receivers are running faster, the linemen are in your face faster. Everyone tells you that speed is number one, speed is key, speed is the most important thing to improve. And they aren't kidding. One of the first things I had to do was push some TPE into getting my speed to 95, and getting my endurance to 75, just so I could keep up with everyone. Besides that, it's just the same old same old, I think. I'm actually having a more productive season than my two DSFL seasons combined, I think. So while there definitely was an adjustment, I'm hesitant to say that it's been too hard of an adjustment. One noticeable thing that is much different is the difference in locker rooms. First and foremost, there is around a 100% reduction in sexual activity in my NSFL locker room, compared to the Ducks locker room. That might just be because the Minnesota Grey Ducks locker room is the most erotic place on the planet, but it is true. This isn't necessarily a bad thing though, I suppose. Although I do moss Daymond Brooks's "shower surprises" occasionally. I've always heard that DSFL locker rooms are more fun, and that does seem to be true. I do love my CHI locker room, and we do have fun, but it's no Ducks! QUACC.
Of course. So you come in at the midway point. Having amassed 83 tackles, 1TFL and 1INT and 11 PD. I feel those are fantastic numbers for a rookie? What are your thoughts? Are these meeting your expectations or goals you set out? And what goals do you have for the second half of the season? Could we possibly see you in the running for a ROTY award in a certain category? It's definitely been fun watching you play
I'm not going to lie to you. My production this season has blown my expectations out of the water. I still can't believe how well I'm playing. I was making jokes all throughout the entire off-season about how I couldn't wait to get torched by NSFL receivers all year, since I hadn't even hit the 250 TPE DSFL cap when Bayley and Muford called me up to the big leagues. But somehow, some way, I'm hanging in there. Hell, I think I'm more than hanging in there. I'm not trying to brag, but I'm:
#1 Tackles among rookies at all positions
#1 Tackles among CBs
#8 Overall in tackles
#1 Passes defensed among all rookies
#12 Passes defensed overall
And now that I finally got my first career interception (in the DSFL or the NSFL) after two seasons coming up empty, hopefully I have gotten that monkey off of my back and I can snag some more to finish off the season. I'm really really hoping that I can keep this pace for the rest of the season. Honestly, I don’t expect to see any awards coming in my future. I’m sure there are other rookies that are playing on better teams that are going to end up winning it. Plus, as a new guy, I don’t think that enough people even know about me. I don’t have the name recognition that some of these recreates have, you know what I mean? Even if I don’t win any awards, it's just been so fun to see myself, an 11th round pick, claw and fight (or should I say hack and slash, am I right Butchers? Tree Gelbman knows what I’m talking about) my way to relevance. Even a nomination would be an absolute dream come true. In a season that doesn't have a ton to celebrate, being last place in the league, it's nice to see me and some of the other guys in Chicago having good years. A few bright spots, you know?
Finally, just sum up everything with the experience in the NSFL so far, how your time in Chicago has been and what your most excited about going forward?
My time with Chicago in the NSFL has been awesome. Our locker room is right where we want it right now. When I got here, it was just a little bit too quiet in the locker room. But now it's pretty lively, after we brought in the guys and girls from our S23 draft class. Its crazy to me how involved I am with everything now, considering I was almost IA and never talked in the discord server in my very first season with the Ducks. Now I'm helping out Chicago by helping with the scouting in Minnesota, and I'm running a max earner club, which I stole from Voiceless in Minnesota, which he stole from Bex hahah. I'm hoping that one of these days I'll make it into the war room, but we'll see how that goes. I'm most excited to take the league by storm. I don't know if it'll be next season, or the season after, but we're coming for you guys! Everyone better be ready, because it won't be long. Like Jango says, get your wins in now, because you guys won't be getting any for much longer.
O also! Check out my previous interviews. I think you'll find out that you are one of very few who struggle with a certain problem.
I should've seen this coming. FOR THE RECORD, I can change an oil filter perfectly fine. It's just harder on a motorcycle when the previous owner didn't use the right filter. I KNOW HOW TO CHANGE MY OIL DAMN IT.
CC I miss being the dynamic duo in the backfield and it was fantastic to sit down and spend sometime with you again. Enjoy the holiday man and good luck the rest of the season. And I'll see you during the off season.
I miss it too man. The good old days, when we had the #1 defensive back group in the DSFL! It was good catching up man. Good luck out there!
