Eric Richards and his wife Clair were relaxing in thier Chicago home, thier infant son Noah finally having fallen asleep after crying while they tried to put him to sleep
"I thought he'd never fall asleep" Eric sighed "but at least he should be quiet for a couple of hours or so"
"Yeah. I'd complain to our parents but they'd probably say that they went through similar stuff when we were that age"
"Yeah, they'd probably laugh-" he was interrupted by his phone ringing, and was surprised when the frog girl Tsuyu Asui was the caller ID shown "hello Tsuyu?"
"Hello Eric" she sounded like she was crying "I don't know who else to tell this to, but my mom isn't doing so good"
"Wait what's wrong with her" Eric asked, a bit scared
"She has had lukiemia for years and it's back! They say she won't make it! Can you come go the hospital I don't know who else to call right now!" She then bursts into hysterics and couldn't get her words out right
"Ok ok just try to relax I'll be there!" Eric says and she gives him the hospital address and what room she is in and he gets off the phone
"What's wrong?" Clair said, extremely worried "Eric please tell me!" Eric took a very deep breath and told her what Tsuyu told him, making her gasp "That's terrible! Let's get Noah and head over there" They strap Noah into his car seat and head over to the hospital where they find a crying Tsuyu and her extremely sick looking mother along with her father waiting for them
"Oh Tsuyu I am so sorry this is happening to you and your family" Eric said as they hugged
"I know..." Tsuyu said, her voice barely a whisper
"Hey I heard you have a good singing voice Eric" Her father said, tears on his face as well "she has one request before she...you know: it's to hear that one Kermit the frog song called Rainbow Connection sung by you. I can play the guitar while you do it" he pulls out an acoustic guitar and begins playing as Eric softly sung the song in his deep singing voice. As he sung, Tsuyu's mom softly smiled and had passed away by the time it ended.
Eric and Clair then left the room and thought about life to give the family some alone time. Eric began softly singing "Live like you're dying" by Tim Mcgraw to himself, a song that he would hear on the radio a lot while driving with his dad back in the day. The song had always stuck to him for some reason, maybe because he heard the song before his father had told him about his grandfathers passing. After a while, he noticed Tsuyu humming the song as he finished it.
"This is definitely inane to ask, but are you alright?' He asked the frog girl who sighed deeply
"Yeah got my crying done with, I have no more tears to shed" she said as she rubbed her eyes "now I just feel numb"
"5 stages of Grief?" Eric asked "the last stage is acceptance"
"Probably who knows?" Tsuyu said as she sighed again "in the back of my mind, I knew this was going to happen, it's just hard to accept it when it does"
"I know. It's always hard to accept tragedy" He sighs a bit as well "I was a wreck when my grandfather died. We were extremely close"
"I hope you don't mind me asking, but what did he die off?"
"Heart attack. Too many years of eating bad food finally caught up with him" Eric looked out the window of the hospital where it had started to rain, but Noah started crying as he did and he picked him up "no don't cry son, it's alright. Are you hungry?" He handed him to Clair so she could feed him
"He is such a cute baby" Tsuyu said with a slightly shaky voice as she put out her finger for him to hold onto, which he did
"I know right?" Clair said "I love him so much" she smiled as he fed "no matter how many sleepless nights he gives us, we won't stop loving him. I can promise you that"
"That's good" Tsuyu smiled "thank you so much for coming, I don't think I could have handled it by myself"
"Its no problem I understand how hard it was for you" Eric said "Tragedy is hard to get through without support. Trust me I know" He then looked out at the rainy sky "sometimes rain can help wash off the feeling of pain, or that's what my grandpa said anyways-" He didn't finish what he said before Tsuyu ran outside and let herself get wet, screaming our her frustrations in one big scream. Eric followed her outside chuckling a bit "I don't know if he meant literary!"
"It doesn't matter if he meant it literary or not" she said, getting soaked "it is helping ether way. I have always loved water and rain, and maybe my mom is making it rain for me. Or at least that's what I'd like to believe"
"Well let's get inside before we get sick" they then headed inside and dried off as Tsuyu sent a prayer for her mother. She then relaxed, having no more tears to shed or frustration to release.
