Round 5

Round 5, Pick 1: Chicago Butchers - BWIII - Crowbar Theeks - RB - 202 TPE

Rumor on the street is that BWIII has quit the league. That might make this is an interesting pick for the Butchers, however I totally understand the flier. If he comes back any time soon he might decide to pick up this player instead of retiring and recreating as a new one. If he does, you’re adding a solid earning running back to your team. If he doesn’t you only spent a fifth round pick in a draft that is rapidly drying up. Low risk, high reward pick from the Butchers.


Round 5, Pick 2: San Jose Sabercats - SaborTheWaverunner - Petra Sabor - LB - 94 TPE

Tyron Brackenridge just hit regression for the first time. He does a few seasons ahead of him, however props to the Sabercats for recognizing that the future has a way of sneaking up on your and stashing a potential linebacker option in the DSFL is a good choice here. The board is thin on good earners, and although Tre’Darius J’Vathon looms as a max earning options left on the board the Sabercats have already taken a wide receiver in this draft in Campbell and have a solid young option in Season 23 Tychondrius Hood already on roster. 


Round 5, Pick 3: Honolulu Hahalua - Vander Jones - Tre’Darius J’Vathon - WR - 218 TPE

And there he goes, the last true “max” earner in this class. I don’t have much to say here though. The draft has thinned out, most teams are taking fliers on potential stashes. The Hahalua add probably one of the best of those with a max earner here. A worthwhile pick that has huge steal potential.


Round 5, Pick 4: Sarasota Sailfish - Goat_Whisperer - Blago Kokot - 143 TPE

The Sailfish already have a solid kicker on the roster in Season 22 Jacob Small, but I’ll never knock a team for taking a solid earning player at this point in the draft. I’m beginning to sound like a broken record but I really like this pick - there’s only one other player left on the board I would’ve considered this late - Grummy Bear a safety - so you’re really flipping a coin between the two.


Round 5, Pick 5: Baltimore Hawks - DeanoBamBeano - Thomas The Tank Engine - S - 84 TPE

He hasn’t been online for over a month. There are players who have been online in the last week still left on the board. Generally this late I think the strategy is to open the TPE tracker, find the player's profile, and then see when they were last online. That seems like the best way to maximize the chance that you'll snag a potential active. There were players more recently active taken after this pick, but it does comes with the possibility that Baltimore knows something I don't, which is totally fair. All picks this late are shots in the dark. 


Round 5, Pick 6: Arizona Outlaws - Snussu - James Pazos - CB - 78 TPE

Basically right after Baltimore takes a player who has been offline for over a month, Arizona snags a guy who was on five days ago at the time I’m writing this segment. He claimed twitter about two weeks ago. Good flier here from the Outlaws. If you’re picking this late you aren’t caring about the position, you’re just hoping they end up being an active player.


Round 5, Pick 7: New Orleans Second Line - Luke - Juke Thomason - K/P - 94 TPE

Hey he’s been on in the last two days and has earned some TPE since the draft! Way to go New Orleans you might’ve hit on this pick. Do you need a kicker or punter? No, not really - you’ve got Season 19 Herbert Prohaska on the roster, but if this guy turns out you aren’t really caring. Love this pick. Props to New Orleans for doing their research here and taking a guy who is in three sim leagues - SHL, PBE, and NSFL. A guy who did the mock draft PT. Just an active guy.


Round 5, Pick 8: Baltimore Hawks - Cristobal - Bob Smith - DE - 98 TPE

Bob Smith is another player who has some potential as a late flier, although he hasn’t been on in close to three weeks. He did respond to me during scouting for the Copperheads, however, and that was on the 20th - meaning that he was Discord active more recently than he was site active - where he was last online on the 13th. This isn’t as promising a flier as either of the two previous picks this round by the Outlaws and Second Line, but it still has some potential.


Round 5, Pick 9: Baltimore Hawks - Apple Bee’s Manager - Logan Hex - WR - 63 TPE

Hex hasn’t been online since June 26th, which some might interpret to mean this is a very risky pick. I tend to think this pick actually has some potential. Logan Hex is the brother of Tristian Hex, a tight end for the Dallas Birddogs and Honolulu Hahalua who is a slow but consistent earner. If the Hawks can work with Hex to try to bring his brother back around, this pick has a lot of potential.


Round 5, Pick 10: Orange County Otters - Grum - Grummy Bear - S 130 TPE

Orange County does it again and gets a great pick late in the draft. I don’t know how Grum fell this low. He’s not the best earner and hadn’t been on much in July, however he’s active in other leagues and can be found pretty regularly on Discord. He has the highest TPE left on the board at this point - and has had the highest since the fourth pick in the fifth round. Solid pick, solid flier. This is why Orange County is such a good team.


Round 5, Pick 11: Austin Copperheads - Blue - John Price - CB - 67 TPE

I was excited when it looked like Grum might fall here, but I’m not upset we got to take a shot at Blue. He hasn’t been on since early July but he was a player for Portland in the DSFL and Austin has strong ties to Portland. Rumor is that he’s left the league, but this late in the raft almost everyone has been IA for a month and this isn’t a horrible pick.


Round 5, Pick 12: Yellowknife Wraiths - Delta - Delta Airlines - LB - 50 TPE

What a name, I wish he was earning. That being said, he’s been online in the last five days. Maybe the Wraiths can bring him back around and teach him to earn, that would be awesome. His render John Mulaney and I just want that in the league.

Round 6

Round 6, Pick 1: Chicago Butchers - Eliajah - Eliajah Williams - RB - 50 TPE

This is the most recently active player I’ve found since we started slogging through the IAs. Williams has been around for a few weeks and is active in Discord. He’s claiming some TPE - mainly training camp recently - but he hasn’t updated. If Chicago can get him to update some they’ve got a good potential player on their hands. 


Round 6, Pick 2: San Jose Sabercats - JoshMcNabb - Michael Cera - DT - 50 TPE

He hasn’t been online in close to two months. Hopefully the Sabercats will message him on Discord and the website so it pings his email, but this isn’t a promising pick here.


Round 6, Pick 3: Honolulu Hahalua - 100stars - Greg Young - TE - 50 TPE

Another player who hasn’t been online in close to two months. As I said above with the Sabercats, hopefully Honolulu is doing the due diligence to try to bring him back. 


Round 6, Pick 4: Sarasota Sailfish - R-Jeff - Timothy Martins III - RB - 50 TPE

Finally the Sailfish have a replacement for that scrub Frost. Its been over two months since he’s logged on though. As always, hopefully they’re hitting him up wherever they can and encouraging him to come back.


Round 6, Pick 5: Baltimore Hawks - Ode2U - Axel E. Ratione - S - 77 TPE

Holy smokes not just a 50 TPE player! He hasn’t been online since June, but there’s still a chance he comes back. When he was here he was rushing speed so he does know a bit about what to do in the league. Slide into his DM’s Baltimore.


Round 6, Pick 6: Arizona Outlaws - Piggboye - Alpha Centauri - DT - 59 TPE

I’m surprised Infinite wasn’t pounding the table trying to get Colorado trade for a pick to get this guy just because of his amazing name. That being said, he hasn’t been online since May 25th. The promising part is that he was recruited by ddrector, who might potentially be able to bring him back. 


Round 6, Pick 7: New Orleans Second Line - BigDongFunkyKong - DE - 57 TPE

A literally iconic name. Literally legendary. Sadly, he hasn’t been on in over two months and was recruited from reddit. He’s probably gone, but it never hurts to hope.

Round 6, Pick 8: Baltimore Hawks - Ruhu - Ruhu Rush - S - 57 TPE

Was last online in June, recruited from reddit - specifically r/madden, and posted some media at one point. At this point in the draft those are things you’re kinda looking at. Doing media is a promising fact - maybe he wrote it in Word and saved it to his computer and will see it in a few weeks and come back and realize he loves the league. Or maybe he won’t.

Round 6, Pick 9: Baltimore Hawks - TheGodfather - Jordan Waffle - CB - 57 TPE

I love the last name Waffle. What I don’t love is that he hasn’t been on the website in over a month. His recruiter is Penn State football coach James Franklin though. Someone call their football program and ask where our boy Waffle is.

Round 6, Pick 10: Orange County Otters - Garry Winthorpe - S - 50 TPE

I have no idea what to say about Garry Winthorpe. A Dallas Birddog last season, he’s still Discord active. I see him online occasionally, but for the life of us we couldn’t get him to earn. He hasn’t been online since June 14th, but the fact you can still find him on Discord makes this a decent pick nonetheless.

Round 6, Pick 11: Austin Copperheads - envie808 - Nessie Jones - CB - 50 TPE

I shot this player a DM when they joined the site and hit DSFL waivers. I never got a response but did see the little profile notification that they were new to Discord. No idea if the Luchadores ever found them or got them to talk. They joined the site on June 9th and were last seen on June 23rd, so they did check it even after they joined. Might have some potential, but who really knows.

Round 6, Pick 12: Yellowknife Wraiths - Terel - Nacho Davis - TE - 50 TPE

Man, I really want some nachos now. On topic though, this guy hasn’t been on since May 26th. He was recruited by the Florida Gators subreddit. First off, roll tide. Second off, he’s probably gone which is sad.

Round 7

Round 7, Pick 1: Chicago Butchers - RattlyBall21 - Jason Polinger - S - 50 TPE

This isn’t a bad pick here. He was last online on August 1st, so he’s still coming around. He was originally a quarterback if memory serves too, so its possible to communicate with him since he changed positions. Hopefully Chicago can get in touch with him. 

Round 7, Pick 2: San Jose Sabercats - Kelsier - Ashweather Cett - OL - 50 TPE

Joined the 11th of June and was gone by the 12th. We claimed him off waivers in Dallas because he had experience in other leagues and knew Bayley, but he decided he didn’t like the league because it was too much work supposedly and quit. Maybe San Jose can bring him back. He’s around in other sim leagues so he’s Discord active. 

Round 7, Pick 3: Honolulu Hahalua - j_birdie - Jay McCowski - DE - 57 TPE

This guys got a really cool forum profile picture, but he’s basically gone. We claimed him off of waivers as a post trade deadline add in Season 22 and he was around in the locker room for a few days but then he left. I guess he decided he didn’t like the league. Maybe he comes back, but it doesn’t look promising. We could never find him again.
