In the previous week, the Norfolk Seawolves had an incredibly difficult game against the Tijuana Luchadores. While they had only a small amount of time to recover and recoup before once more boarding a plane, they listened to their faithful leaders J0EB and Seraj Comilla who once more worked to inspire and motivate the team. Arriving at Heathrow, the team was incredibly hyped, and Adelie de Pengu and Daria Guava-Fresca had become fast friends after sitting next to each other on the plane. As they took the locker room, listening to one more inspiring speech from their leadership, former General Manager ScorpXCracker sent the team a good luck text message:

The team looked at one another in confusion, de Pengu translated to the team, and with a cheer they were ready to leave the tunnel. The London crowd was amped up, but the Seawolves were going to do their best to not let it get to them.
As the first quarter started, the Seawolves got off to a wonderful start with a kickoff return of 26 yards by Quanter Skrills. On the immediate first down of the game, however, Suleiman Ramza is sacked for a huge loss, and with another penalty Norfolk quickly reaches a fourth and long situation. While Ramza attempted a nice long pass to Hopkins, it wasn’t enough and the Seawolves kicker, Daria Guava-Fresca was forced to make her first punt of the game. While the Royals had a pretty grand return at 13 yards, but on the immediate next play, Cortez was sacked by Ryan Scott and fumbled the ball. In a frantic scramble, the Royals were now in a 2nd and long situation, and it seemed as though maybe the Norfolk defensive line would be able put a stop to London’s entire offense. That hope fell short, however, as Cortez threw an incredible 23 yard pass to Gunner Thorbjornsson for a first down. Crossing over into Norfolk territory, London has another few great plays, including a second long pass to Thorbjornsson. With the Seawolves gaining another penalty (man, those coaches really need to have some practice and drills about offsides penalties), London is in a 2nd and short situation, but Batista cannot help but pay the Seawolves back with a clipping penalty, and it drives the Royals back too deep that they are unable to end the drive with a touchdown. Settling for 3 points, Datsum PhastBawl kicks a good field goal, and the Royals were on the board first.
Norfolk happily takes the ball back on the kickoff, and Skrills makes another 8 yard run to start them off on their own push for points. In a drive that takes up a third of the quarter, the Seawolves make their way down to London’s 34 yard line, but soon to be superstar Juan Domine makes a stop on the third down. While they were most likely within field goal range, it seemed as though J0EB and Comilla would not put their trust in Guava-Fresca, forcing her to punt - which resulted in a touchback. Clear evidence that Guava-Fresca would have made the field goal in the first place. Starting at the 20, London takes the ball and begins their pass and rush game, making it into Norfolk territory before the end of the first quarter.
While the team moves onto the sidelines and takes a quick breather as they swap sides, the Seawolves try to remain upbeat. At the start of the second quarter, Adelie de Pengu, inspired by the sideline chat, has a massive sack for a 5 yard loss. This steam continues for the defense, and the Royals are forced to kick a field goal instead of scoring a touchdown. With the next kickoff, Benoit Blanco takes the ball out of the endzone and is able to find some space on the left side of the field. Making a huge 33 yard kickoff return, it felt as though this was the big break that the Seawolves finally needed. With several short plays, Norfolk starts pushing down the field, as they make it across the 50 yard line and into London territory, however, they begin to lose some steam. Multiple dropped passes mean that Guava-Fresca has to join the field to punt again. Fortunately for the Seawolves, however, they are able to keep the pressure on London and they can only go through two sets of downs before being forced to punt. Another penalty, and some incomplete passes and the ball is pushed back into London’s hands with a short punt by Guava-Fresca.
London began their new drive with two great rushes leading to a first down. After some short gains, Batista makes a great rush for yet another first down. The passing game does not appear to be strong for the Royals and they quickly go back to rushing. With a penalty on Matt Cross Junior’s robotic clone, the Royals are so close for a touchdown that it seems inevitable. With two more plays, it happens, Danny King scores a touchdown and the extra point is good. On the kickoff Blanco attempts to take the ball out of the end zone and he finds a pocket somewhere, and is able to make a great 28 yard return. Several completed rushes later, the Seawolves try throwing the ball to make some faster gains, especially as the clock continues to tick down into the half. While Ramza seemed to be on his game, he had two incompletes in a row resulting in the fifth punt by Guava-Fresca this game. Even though the Royals put their faith in Cortez and Jack, after three failed pass attempts, PhastBawl punted the ball a massive 65 yards. Blanco caught the ball around the 15 yard line, but as he ran backwards attempting to find a hole, he was tackled for a short loss. With only minutes to go in the half, Ramza stepped up to try and get the Seawolves some breathing space, and with a short pass to Skrills on the first down it seemed possible. As the clock continued to tick down, however, the Seawolves used one of their timeouts, knowing they had to be mindful of the time. While making a plan and trying to be hyped for the last few plays of the half, it didn’t work out for the Seawolves. After a broken up play and yet another incomplete pass, Guava-Fresca is forced onto the field to punt again. London makes a long return, and an almost equally long run on the next play, but the Norfolk defense is able to hold them to just 3 points. The kickoff starts, and Blanco catches the ball - this time finding the hole and running up the field 21 yards. With only seconds left in the half, the ball is hiked to Ramza. He looked around for his man to make a deep pass down the field, but then was hit from out of nowhere, sacked for 6 yards. As Ramza slowly got up, the teams headed down the tunnel and into the locker room.
In the locker rooms Ramza was getting checked out quickly to make sure that the last sack hadn’t done him in, but Skywalker was ready to take over for every play if necessary. Coaches Comilla and J0EB stood in the center of the locker room and addressed their team. While they knew that their players were feeling tired and frustrated at the turn of events, they could not give up. It was important for all of the players to make sure that they understood that some of them were rookies, they were going to need to take this time to adjust to an international schedule.
Even though the Seawolves had been shut out in the first half of the game, they left the locker room feeling as though they could come back in the second half. Knowing they needed to put their defense on display, Guava-Fresca kicked off and sent the ball soaring down the field. Greedy Sly for the Royal’s special teams sat at London’s 10 yard line, waiting for the return. As he caught the ball, he managed to find a massive hole in the Seawolves defense and the Royals came up with a 21 yard kickoff return. Fired up from a massive first play, Cortez threw a deep pass and Cash Jr. made a 30 yard catch. Attempting to run the ball continued to not work well for London, and they moved back to the pass game having multiple gains over the next few plays. London moved quickly into the red zone and with a short pass to J’Vathon, they scored their first points of the half. PhastBawls kicked the ball deep into the endzone, but Skrills, feeling confident, took the ball out of the endzone. He looked down the field and broke a tackle, stumbling forward for 22 yards. Skywalker and Ramza continued to take the field passing and rushing the ball, but with a penalty on Dude and a couple of great tackles by Juan Domine, the Seawolves were forced to punt again - this time only a short punt of 32 yards from Guava-Fresca. After a decent return by King, London decided that the right move would be to allow King to rush again. Unfortunately for London, as Marshall tackled King he forced a fumble and the Seawolves own Scott recovered the ball leading to another Seawolves possession after just a few seconds.
Being off his game still against London, Ramza has an incomplete pass and Comilla decides to pull him to attempt to push the run game for the Seawolves. With a couple of first downs, and finally getting into the red zone, it seemed as though the Seawolves would finally be able to get on the board. Comilla put Ramza back into the game, and after 3 failed or short passes, Norfolk were forced to kick a field goal. It may not have been what they hoped for at the end of this drive, but they at least knew that they were on the board and would not be shut out.
Getting ready to kickoff again, the ball popped off of the stand, and Guava-Fresca begrudgingly walked over to set it back up. You could see the frustration enter her body as she lined up to kick once more. Sly was waiting in the backfield, ready to return the kick. Another 21 yards forward, and London was putting all of their mistakes behind them. Decent rushes, and a good pass, it seemed like nothing would stop London. But as one of their players hit a Seawolf out of bounds, they gained an unfortunate Unnecessary Roughness penalty. Seawolf tempers began to run hot, though, and they responded in kind on the next play. Couple that with a tripping penalty two downs later, and the Seawolves began to set up London for another easy drive down the field. Even with all of the help from Norfolk, however, their defense continued to be strong enough to hold London to a field goal attempt. The ball was on the bad hash for PhastBawl, though, and it was no good as the clock ticked down in the third quarter.
Norfolk took the ball over at the 24 yard line and Tequila Sunrise began trying to rush the ball for the Seawolves, but with a 3 and out, they were forced to punt only two minutes into the final quarter of the game. With a decent 40 yard punt, it seemed like Guava-Fresca would give the Seawolves some breathing room, but King was ready to return to the punt. He found a gap that led him to the right side of the field and putting on the afterburners, he made it a massive 58 yards. Guava-Fresca put her minimal tackling skills to use to help bring him down. With only two plays, London scored another touchdown, seeming to put the final nail in the coffin for Norfolk.
As PhastBawl kicks off after the touchdown, Benoit Blanco would not let the low score for the Seawolves keep him down. Taking the ball out of the endzone, Blanco finds a spot on the right hand side. With a few creative tackles, Blanco is finally brought down at the 36 yard line, giving the Seawolves a bit of hope. Sunrise made a short gain on the next play, but then Ramza was brought down hard by Juan Domine for a massive sack. The Seawolves just couldn’t recover and Guava-Fresca was forced to punt once more.
Pissed off and frustrated, Norfolk defensive players Jim Namen Jr and Quentin Button went ham over the next few plays, sacking Cortez twice for a total loss of 20 yards. These deep sacks meant that London needed to punt the ball once more. With 10 minutes left in the game, the Seawolves get the ball back and get a great pass by Ramza to Hex for an 11 yard gain. Two penalties in a row, though, push the Seawolves from driving down the field into a 2 and 33 situation. Even with a silly penalty by the Royals (really, too many men on the field? Were you not paying attention coach?), it wasn’t enough for Norfolk to make a difference - they attempted a 4th and 19 situation, and after the incomplete pass, the ball passed over to the Royals once more - and with amazing field position at the Norfolk 23 yard line. While they were unable to move the ball much, they began the drive already in field goal range and with a nice kick by PhastBawl it provided easy points for the Royals.
Skrills was ready to return the kickoff, and he was able to find a hole in the middle of the field and return the ball for 37 yards. This may have been the best field position that the Seawolves had all day. With several short rushes by the Seawolves, Comilla put Ramza back into the game to make sure that they could work on their passing game. With a massive pass in a 4th down situation, the Seawolves reached the red zone. Spiking the ball as time was running out, Ramza helped to save the Seawolves a timeout in a situation where they didn’t have many to burn. It seemed as though they were not going to be able to make the touchdown, but with a covered pass in the endzone, Ramza found Dre Matthews for their first touchdown of the game.
With less than two minutes left, the Seawolves attempted and failed an onside kick. With a short drive by the Royals, and one more turnover, the Seawolves attempted a large pass to Dre Matthews once more, but as he was tackled by van Perkins, that was what they wrote. The Seawolves had now competed in two games this preseason, both of which were lost in the most humiliating ways. As they looked to the future, they hoped that the next preseason game against Myrtle Beach on their home turf would allow the Seawolves to have a good game.
