Here's a run down of Swanty's top performances of the week on both sides of the ball (+ a K/P) in Week 1 of the DSFL. These are based on stat lines, game outcome, yards/points conceded for D players and my own questionable takes.
As most teams employ multiple bots at OL, there'll only be 2 OL spots
QB - Charlemagne Cortez (LDN) - Offensive Performance of the Week - Cortez stuck his name in the London record books with this performance as the Royals leaned on the QB heavily. 334 yards, 3 TDs and no ints as he led his team to a narrow victory over the Grey Ducks.
OL - Macaroni Elephant (LDN) - Great game from the London O-line as a whole as they enabled their QB to break records, but Elephant gets the nod for 0 sacks allowed and 4 pancakes.
OL - Icebox Riposte (TIJ) - The Luchadores recorded a solid win and Riposte's clean game helped out immensely. Riposte recorded 5 pancakes and didn't get flagged or give up a sack
RB - Jameson Vermillion (MINN) - Despite his team's loss, Vermillion accounted for arguably the highlight of the week, an insane 82 yard run TD. Vermillion added a second TD and finished up with 144 yards. And that's not counting the 85 he added in the return game.
RB - Quanter Skrills (NOR) - Skrills and Rogers were beasts in the Seawolves backfield this week, posting almost identical stat lines. Skrills gets the nod though, as Rogers cost his team 15 yards with an ugly unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
WR - Dre Matthews (NOR) - Dre Matthews was the main man out wide today, posting 104 yards and 2 scores on 6 catches.
WR - Joshua Campbell (KC) - WR2 was a very competitive spot, but Campbell gets the nod here. An early TD plus a 55 yard reception contributed to a strong 5/112/1 line in the Coyotes' loss.
TE - Frank Michell (LDN) - Michell was Cortez's favourite target today, with a Royals record 9 catches for 54 yards, one of which went for an early TD.
DL - Sam Roes (NOR) - Defensive Performance of the Week - Roes was drafted at the backend of the 7th round, but the rookie put on quite a display in his first ever DSFL appearance. He was an absolute pest in the Portland backfield, and amassed a massive 5 tackles for loss as well as helping hold the Pythons to just 211 yards and 17 points. To put that performance into perspective, Roes accounted for almost a quarter of all the TFLs across the DSFL this week.
DL - Vance Slattery (TIJ) - Slattery bagged a huge 3rd down sack on his first quarter in the league, and was a key part of the Tijuana win, holding the Birddogs to just 13 points.
DL - Tex Wrecks (TIJ) - Tex makes this an all-rookie front 3 as he too bagged a sack in his debut. He also recorded an important tackle for a 6 yard loss.
LB - Dexter Jackson (MB) - The Bucs saw off the Coyotes this week and Jackson's interception and 3 deflected passes were a key reason for it. Yet another star rookie performance, Jackson fell just short of the DpotW nod.
LB - Adam Schell (TIJ) - Our first veteran on the list, Schell was the only player this week to record 2 sacks as well as adding 4 other tackles in this dominant Tijuana performance.
LB - Nat Wright (TIJ) - It was a sackfest in Tijuana this week. Wright bagged one of their own and 6 more tackles.
CB - Byron Blackwell (DAL) - Despite the loss, Blackwell recorded an impressive 8 tackles from cornerback as well as a deflected pass.
CB - James Hoffman (MB) - Hoffman made 5 tackles and broke up 2 passes in his team's win over KC.
CB - Rickie Vaughne (NOR) - Vaughne forced and recovered a fumble this week as well as being part of the team that allowed just 137 passing yards.
S - Teddy Utterstruzen (MB) - One of the standouts of the week, this rookie intercepted a pass, broke up another and had 7 tackles.
S - Oliver Sloan (MINN) - Despite the Royals dominating in the passing game, Sloan had a nice individual game. A sack + 7 tackles is amazing for a safety, and add onto that a forced fumble which Sloan himself picked up for a turnover.
K/P - Jack Burton (TIJ) - Burton was the only kicker to score a 40+ yard FG this week, and he did it twice! The missed extra point might have put him out of contention for this slot, but his punt average was also the best of the week by a wide margin.
