Well we are not in Kansas anymore Toto. The jump from college to the DSFL has been much more of a challenge than I ever expected. After three games in the league, I have not yet made to 70 yards receiving. Not 70 yards in one game, 70 yards in total. I have struggled to find ways to get myself open. The corners are so much faster and savvy at this level than I saw in the Ohio Valley Conference during my college years. The advanced defenses some teams run have made me very confused as well so I need to study that tape and have our game plan down pat these next few weeks. Another aspect I need to work on is controlling myself during the game when I am frustrated. I am better than the two unnecessary roughness penalties I have received so far this season and I am going to do what I can to make sure I keep my cool. I can’t keep putting my team in bad situations due to my lack of discipline.
The good news is that despite some personal struggles, the team is still performing out on the field. We have come out of the gates strong with a 2-1 record and are looking like one of the teams to beat this season. Our biggest win was definetly against the London Royals in Week 3. That team made the UItimini last season so it was a big win to pull that off in front of our home fans. The vaunted Myrtle Beach Buccaneers defense is the main reason behind our success. As a unit they are number one in the DSFL against the rush, only giving up 98 yards a game. They also have stifled opponents by creating many turnovers and holding the other teams to a staggering 13.0 points per game. I’ve especially been impressed by our free safety, Utterstruzen. Not only has he defended 7 passes so far this season, most in the DSFL, but he has also come down with two interceptions and forced a fumble. The man has been having an unbelievable season so far and I seem him skyrocketing up the ISFL draft boards.
Now to shift my attention to tonight’s matchup against the Norfolk Seawolves. The defending Ultimini champions are going to be very tough to beat at home. Through three games, not only are they undefeated but they have over a 50-point differential. They have been absolutely manhandling their opponents this season and probably plan to do the same for us. Luckily, our team is ready for the challenge. Our coaching staff has been prepping for this game harder than I have ever seen. They are in that film room before and after practice and are giving it their all to get the right game plan down so that we can beat the Seawolves. Our team is ready to execute that plan and go in and stun the Seawolves. Given the relatively short drive from Myrtle Beach to Norfolk I expect to see quite a few of our fans in the stands tonight. We are going to do everything we can to ensure you all get to celebrate the whole way home. Look forward to seeing you all there and Let’s go Buccaneers.
